Purpose: The purpose of this study was to know the availability of two photosensitizers, PD, DA, as a photosensitizer instead of CQ in UDMA dental composite resin. We want to know photopolymerization effect of UDMA unfilled resin and surface hardness of composite resin containing PD and DA were compared with those of CQ, most widely used photosensitizer for dental composite resins. Methods: The photopolymerization effect of UDMA studied by FT-IR spectroscopy increased with irradiation time and the amount of photosensitizer. Knoop hardness of experimental composite resins prepared by the addition of the photosensitizer content and irradiation time. Results: The relative photopolymerization effect of UDMA increased in the order of PD > CQ > DA. The composite resin of UDMA containing DA or PD, which shows better Knoop hardness than that containing CQ. Conclusion: PD and DA show as effective photosensizers, suitable for UDMA dental composite resin compare with a higher efficiency than CQ.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to know the physical properties of UDMA dental composite resins containing two photosensitizers, PD, DA, as a photosensitizer instead of CQ. We want to know Remaining Double Bond(RDB) of UDMA unfilled resin and diametral tensile strength and flexural strength of composite resin containing PD and DA were compared with those of CQ, most widely used photosensitizer for dental composite resins. Methods: The RDB of UDMA studied by FT-IR spectroscopy increased with irradiation time. The composite resins were tested for their physical properties. The dental composite resins were made with UDMA as a monomer, silanized silica as filler, N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DAEM) as amine initiator, and one of the two kinds of new photosensitizers. Results: The relative RDB of UDMA was in the order: DA > CQ > PD but the physical properties of the composite resins show PD and DA with higher results compared with that containing CQ. The reason for the results is that PD and DA serve not only as a photosensitizer but also as a photo-crosslinking agent. Conclusion: PD and DA show as effective photosensizers, suitable for UDMA dental composite resin compare with a higher efficiency than CQ.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the mechanical properties (diametral tensile strength, flexural strength, compressive strength, Vickers hardness) of 4 kinds of composit resins; Bis-GMA based composit, Bis-EMA based composit, Bis-GMA/UDMA based composit, and Bis-EMA/UDMA based composit, The composit resin based Bis-GMA showed stronger mechanical properties than Bis-EMA. It was found that the addition of UDMA to both Bis-GMA based composit and Bis-EMA based composit highly improved mechanical properties. However, the mechanical properties of the composit resins prepared in this study were lower than those of the commercialized products in market(Charmfil flow(Denkist), Quadrant flow(CAVEX)), since the composit resins prepared in this study has much lower inorganic filler content of 43wt% comparing with 50~70wt% inorganic filler content of the commercialized products.
One of the purposes of the study was to investigate and compare the physical properties(depth of light cure, degree of conversion, water absorption) of 4 kinds of composit resins prepared in this lab; Bis-GMA based, Bis-EMA based, Bis-GMA/UDMA based, and Bis-EMA/UDMA based composit. Another aim was to compare the physical properties of the composit resins with those of the commercialized products(Charmfil flow(Denkist), Quadrant flow(CAVEX)) in market. All of the composit resins and the commercialized products showed almost same values of the physical properties. It was found that all of the composit resins prepared in this lab satisfied the physical properties specified in ISO 4049.
Purpose: In this study, we added two kinds of photoinitiators (CQ and TPO) to prepare two kinds of denture base resins (Bis-GMA series and UDMA series) for three-dimensional (3D) printing to compare and analyze their mechanical and biological properties and to find the optimal composition. Methods: Control specimens were made using the mold made of polyvinyl siloxane of the same size. Light curing was performed twice for 20 seconds on both the upper and lower surfaces with LED (light emitting diode) light-curing unit (n=10). Experimental 3D printing dental resins were prepared, to which two photoinitiators were added. Digital light processing type 3D printer (EMBER, Autodesk, CA, USA) was used for 3D printing. The specimen size was 64 mm×10 mm×3.3 mm according to ISO 20795-1. The final specimens were tested for flexural strength and flexural modulus, and MTT test was performed. Furthermore, one-way analysis of variance was performed, and the post-test was analyzed by Duncan's test at α=0.05. Results: The flexural strength of both Bis-GMA+CQ (97.12±6.47 MPa) and UDMA+TPO (97.40±3.75 MPa) was significantly higher (p<0.05) in the experimental group. The flexural modulus in the experimental group of UDMA+TPO (2.56±0.06 GPa) was the highest (p<0.05). MTT test revealed that all the experimental groups showed more than 70% cell activity. Conclusion: The composition of UDMA+TPO showed excellent results in flexural strength, flexural modulus, and biocompatibility.
Three t-amines, 4-(dimethylamino)benzoic acid (ABA), 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde (MBA), 4-(dimethylamino)benzophenone (MBP), were investigated as new visible light photoinitiators for a dental resin composite of UDMA in order to improve photopolymerization effect. Three t-amines mixed with three photosensiizers, CQ, PD and DA, respectively. And the photopolymerization effect of photoinitiators were compared with that of 4-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (AEM), the most widely used photoinitiator. The photopolymerization efficiency of UDMA containing the photoinitiator increased with irradiation time. The increase was in the order: MBP
The purpose of this study was to determine whether pH and time has any influence on the degradation behavior of composite restoration by analyzing the leached monomers of dental composites qualitatively and quantitatively after storage in acetate buffer solution as a function of time using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) / mass spectrometer. Materials and Methods:Three commercial composite restorative resin materials (Z-250, Heliomolar and Aeliteflo) with different matrix structure and filler composition were studied. Thirty specimens (7mm $diameter{\times}2mm$ thick) of each material were prepared. The cured materials were stored in acetate buffer solution at different pH (4, 7) for 1, 7 and 45days. As a reference, samples of unpolymerized composite materials of each product were treated with methanol (10mg/ml). Identification of the various compounds was achieved by comparison of their mass spectra with those of reference compound, with literature data. and by their fragmentation patterns. Data were analysed statistically using ANOVA and Duncan's test. Results:1. Amounts of leached TEGDMA in Aeliteflo were significantly larger than those of UDMA in Z-250 and Heliomolar at experimental conditions of different storage time and pH variation (p<0.001). 2. As to comparison of the amounts of leached monomers per sorage time, amounts of leached TEGDMA in Aeliteflo and UDMA in Z-250 and Heliomolar were increased in the pH 4 solution more significantly than in the pH 7 solution after 1day, 7days and 45days, respectively (p<0.001). 3. In total amounts of all the leached monomers with storage times, the overall amounts of pH 4 extracts were larger than those of pH 7 extracts for all resin groups, but there was no significant difference (p>0.05).
Specimens were cured by using a 1 mm (thickness) ${\times}$5 mm (diameter) teflon mold, and were immersed in artificial saliva and in 75% ethanol for 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days in order to quantify and to identify toxic components and to determine any degra dation byproducts of Bis-GMA that might be released from five commercially available resin-based dental sealants. In artificial saliva, the only released component was triethylene glycol dimethacylate (TEGDMA). In 75% ethanol, TEGDMA, 2,2-bis[4-(2-hydroxy-3-methacryloyloxypropoxy) phenyl]propane (Bis-GMA) and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) were released highly at the initial stage, indicating that the amount of component released is not linearly correlated with the immersion time. The amount of released TEGDMA was found to be much higher in 75% ethanol than in artificial saliva. Importantly, bisphenol-A (BPA) was detected from all the uncured sealants tested, suggesting that all the sealants tested contain BPA as a contaminant.
