Clinical effects of veno-venous extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation for acute myocardial infarction (급성심근경색 환자에게 적용된 정맥-정맥 체외막산화기의 임상 효과)

  • Extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has the potential to rescue patients in cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. ECMO has two systems such as veno-arterial and veno-venous circulation. In cardiac arrest resulting from acute myocardial infarction, veno-arterial ECMO is mandatory for systemic circulation and oxygenation. A 75-year old female patient underwent primary coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction. Despite successful revascularization, recurrent ventricular tachycardia and heart failure were progressing. We performed a veno-arterial ECMO through the femoral artery and vein, then the patient seemed to be stable clinically. However, laboratory studies, echocardiography, and vital signs indicated multi-organ failure and decreasing cardiac function. We found out an error that we performed veno-venous ECMO instead of veno-arterial ECMO. We added a femoral artery cannula and exchange the circuit system to veno-arterial ECMO. While the systemic circulation seemed to be recovered, the left ventricular function was decreased persistently. A hypovolemia resulting from pulmonary hemorrhage was occurred, which lead to ECMO failure. The patient died of cardiac arrest and multi-organ failure 23 hours after ECMO. Because the color of arterial and venous circuits represent the position and efficacy of ECMO, if unexpected or abnormal circuit colors are detected, prompt and aggressive evaluation for ECMO function is mandatory.

  • Not to recreate the final prosthesis is the shortest way to get a successful outcome. In the case of an aesthetic prosthesis, it is important not only the condition of the oral cavity but also the whole harmony in the face such as the interpupillary line and the smile line. But the dental technician creates the prosthesis only based on the oral model. So if you want to prevent the failure of the prosthesis due to discordance with the face, it is a good idea to use patient's facial photography and provisional restorations to reproduce facial features, shapes and aesthetics before switching to a final prosthesis. To prevent the failure of the final prosthesis, it is important to communicate among the patient, the technician and the doctor according to the model diagnosis, facial and oral photos. Then all the technicians will get satisfactory results. In addition, the technician have to understand the form of natural teeth, to analyze and reproduce colors, and to understand materials in order to produce a successful aesthetic prosthesis. From now on, I will explain two parts. At first, the communication in the dental office for the successful production of aesthetic prosthesis through the clinical case. And the second, my opinion for the successful aesthetic prosthesis.

  • Korean film director Lee Joon-ik's two most recently released works, (2018) and (2021), introduce some changes to the world of male bonds, where bromance colors prevailed. It is a father-son or pseudo father-son relationship that has not been dealt with in the exploration of vary kind of intimacy and relationships between men in the 'Lee Joon-ik's films'. If depicts a blood-related father-son relationship, highlights the teacher-disciple relationship, or pseudo father-son relationship. In that respect, the films continue, change, and expand the relationship setting, the sense of problems in the previous film, and inevitably raise the issue of 'generation' and 'inheritance' required today by illuminating the father-son relationship.

Virtual Instrument Tone Comparisons Through Harmonics Analysis - Focused on Sogeum and Flute - (배음 분석을 통한 가상악기의 음색비교 - 소금과 플룻을 중심으로 -)

  • Since 1964, research and improvement projects on Gugak instruments have been carried out to modernize, standardize, and scientificize them, but their inherent problems of Gugak instruments have failed to produce significant results. It seems that one of the main reasons for this is that the study of instrumental acoustics on Korean traditional instruments was not preceded. In Gugak orchestra, Sogeum used in concertos and solo music is a musical instrument that plays the similar role in Western orchestras due to its clear tone and high sound range. In this paper, the sound colors of Sogeum and flute, which sound similar, were analyzed through the their harmonics distribution and sound structures of the instruments. This showed that the overall tone was richer and softer than Sogeum, and that the tones of the two instruments sounded similar due to the similar composition of harmonics. In the future, it is hoped that musical instrument acoustical researches on various Gugak instruments will continue to help popularize and globalize Gugak instruments.

A Study on the Image of Women by Chinese Ancient Aesthetic View(I) - Focused on Tang-Song Dynasty - (중국 고대 심미관에 의한 여성 이미지 연구(I) - 당송시기(唐宋时期)를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper aims to analyze the different external images of women expressed in ancient artwork through the socio-cultural background and the aesthetic view during the Tang and Song dynasties of China. The research method contains a literature review involving the collection of historical literature, thesis, and artwork data. The image of women according to the aesthetic view of the two periods is summarized as follows. In terms of face shape, the Tang pursued a round face while the Song pursued a more slender shape. As for hair ornamentation, the Tang wore various shapes of hair buns like "Paojiaji", and decorated them with coronets. The Song wore various types of braided hair called "Tongxinji", but the coronets were smaller and more sophisticated. For makeup, the Tang wore colorful and heavy makeup and the Song makeup was lighter and more elegant. In attire, the Tang followed revealed shape, used splendid colors and thin, transparent material. The Song exhibited a more simple design and was conservative and neat, using luxurious silk fabric with low chroma. In body shape, the Tang pursued the "beauty of obesity" with a voluptuous body shape; the Song pursued the "beauty of gaunt" with a slim body shape. As the result of the analysis according to the aesthetic views of the Tang and Song dynasties, women of Tang were depicted as rich, and women of Song were rather neat. The research on the aesthetic views that changed according to the development of social civilization and the status of women will play an active role in the transmission and development of traditional Chinese culture. At this point, the paper may contribute to the creation of images of women as well as changes in the art of future generations.

Definition, Role and Method of Yinyang Pattern Differentiation (음양변증(陰陽辨證)의 정의와 기능 및 판별방법 연구)

  • In order to ensure the fact that eight principle pattern differentiation is used clinically as a basic guideline for Korean medicine practice, the definition, role and method of yin-yang pattern differentiation with its case report were explored at first. Yinyang Pattern Differentiation is a method of discriminating human tendencies or morbidity based on the yin and yang characteristics expressed in living bodies. And yin and yang are the two contrasting characteristics and aspects of the interaction when certain physical conditions that have a lasting effect on the human physiological metabolic function are correlated with the morbidity. Specific methods of yinyang pattern differentiation can be divided into several types of yin and yang indicators. First, time and space factors like day and night, hot and cold seasons, above and below, topographical districts. Second, colors and pulse and their/or relative clearness and muddiness, hardness and softness, moving and resting. Third, diagnose yin and yang patterns through distinguishing the true and false of a fever and cold in an emergency phase such as increase of brain pressure and shock state. Fourth, general characteristics of the propensity and constitution of a subject such as body type, speech, behavior, and physiological metabolism. And for clinical use, these were summarized again as a symptom indicators of physical signs and color, pulse, tongue and questionnaire indicators of propensity, body type, and space-time characteristics. Conclusively, it was confirmed that yinyang pattern differentiation has its own diagnostic significance which is distinct from exterior-interior, cold-heat and deficiency-excess pattern differentiation.

Quality Monitoring of Specification Standard of Gardeniae Fructus in the Korean Pharmacopoeia and Studies HPLC Standard Chromatogram (치자(梔子)의 규격 기준 모니터링 및 HPLC 표준크로마토그램 연구)

  • Objectives : Gardeniae Fructus is a ripe fruit of Gardenia jasminoides Ellis, which has been used as traditional medicines for anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antipyretic, and antibacterial activity. The aim of this study was to compare of Gardeniae Fructus in South Korea collected during three years according to the standards in monographs of the Korean Pharmacopoeia Eleventh edition (KP11). Methods : 30 items of Gardeniae Fructus from two cultivation regions were classified into dried(n=15) & steamed (n=15) and tested according to the standards in monographs of the KP11. Gardeniae Fructus was carried out identification(comparison of colors, thin layer chromatography), heavy metals, residual pesticides, total ash, and assay registered at KP11. Add to we tested loss on dry, contents of ethanol-soluble extracts, and HPLC profiling. Results : In TLC chromatogram of identification test, the spot of gardenoside and geniposide were observed at $R_f$ value of about 0.3 and 0.5. Heavy metals and residual pesticides met the requirements of the standards for all samples. The results of total ash of each samples are measured maximum 4.87 %. According to HPLC for assay, the samples contain 4.80~6.10 % of geniposide and 0.45~1.83 % of gardenoside. Conclusion : We have verified the current specification standard of Gardeniae Fructus and standard that is not set. By the results, it is proposed a new draft of loss on drying and confirmed the content of gardenoside revised. HPLC standard chromatogram of Gardeniae Fructus is proposed. We hope that it will help the standardization of Gardeniae Fructus.

Zero-waste fashion design using Sophia Vyzoviti's folding technique (소피아 비조비티의 폴딩 기법을 활용한 제로 웨이스트 패션 디자인)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the concept of zero-waste design and to apply Sophia Vyzoviti's folding techniques to develop a zero-waste fashion design method that contributes to sustainable fashion design. In this study, we explore the method and characteristics of zero-waste fashion design based on the concept of folding described in Sophia Vyzoviti's book on folding techniques. Using the autonomy of Sophia Vyzoviti's folding technique, four changeable folding fashion designs were developed and produced, demonstrating zero-waste fashion design. The results were as follows. First, the development of fashion designs using Sophia Vyzoviti's folding techniques enabled the development and production of free and creative zero-waste fashion designs that were three-dimensional, continuous, fluid, and full of potential. Second, the production of zero-waste patterns was further developed into a transformable fashion design that can be used with geometric patterns. These folding techniques produced a fashion design method that could transform one piece of clothing, demonstration the potential for maintenance of creativity using a zero-waste design based on these folding techniques. Third, the double-faced fabric, Neoprene, was chosen as an appropriate material as it emphasizes the depth of folding with application of two colors and its cotton/polyester blend that is suitable for folding.

Recognition of Events by Human Motion for Context-aware Computing (상황인식 컴퓨팅을 위한 사람 움직임 이벤트 인식)

  • Event detection and recognition is an active and challenging topic recent in Computer Vision. This paper describes a new method for recognizing events caused by human motion from video sequences in an office environment. The proposed approach analyzes human motions using Motion History Image (MHI) sequences, and is invariant to body shapes. types or colors of clothes and positions of target objects. The proposed method has two advantages; one is thant the proposed method is less sensitive to illumination changes comparing with the method using color information of objects of interest, and the other is scale invariance comparing with the method using a prior knowledge like appearances or shapes of objects of interest. Combined with edge detection, geometrical characteristics of the human shape in the MHI sequences are considered as the features. An advantage of the proposed method is that the event detection framework is easy to extend by inserting the descriptions of events. In addition, the proposed method is the core technology for event detection systems based on context-aware computing as well as surveillance systems based on computer vision techniques.

An Introduction to Vietnamese Folk Paintings (베트남 민화연구 서설)

  • This paper offers a brief introduction to Vietnamese folk paintings. The discussion compares Vietnamese folk paintings with the Korean folk painting tradition. Among the main purposes of this paper is the exploration of directions for future research on Vietnamese folk paintings. Vietnamese folk paintings, although extensively influenced by their Chinese tradition of minjian nianhua (folk New Year pictures), form an independent tradition, reflecting the local lifestyle and religious practices of Vietnam. However, compared to Korea or Japan, China remains the dominant source of influence for Vietnamese folk paintings. They were either created using a combination of painting and woodblock printing techniques, which was also the case with minjian nianhua, or using multicolor woodblock printing techniques. In cities like Hang Chong, the combination of painting and woodblock printing techniques was used mainly, following the customary practice in Yangliuqing in Tianjin, China, in which colors were added to the drawing printed from the woodblock. Meanwhile, folk paintings produced in rural areas such as Dong Ho are wholly color woodblock prints, similar to minjian nianhua from Yangjiabu in Weifang. In Lang Sinh, simple drawings, intended for casual purposes, were also created using the combination of woodblock printing and painting techniques. Folk paintings produced in cities and rural areas were distinct from each other, not just in techniques, but also in terms of style and theme. Vietnamese folk paintings show a certain degree of thematic similarity with Joseon folk paintings. This is mainly due to the fact that the two countries' folk paintings developed and evolved in parallel with their Chinese counterparts, minjian nianhua. Also noteworthy is the fact that Vietnamese folk paintings, while they share the simplicity and candidness of Joseon folk paintings, are at the same time somewhat more decorative than the latter. For best results, future research on Vietnamese folk paintings should be conducted together with research on minjian nianhua. Traditional pigments constitute an important area of research in this field. Attention should be also paid to the religious paintings of ethnic minorities in Vietnam, as they are discovered in the future.
