A Convergent Study on the Design and Technology for the Production of Turn Signals for Personal Mobility Devices Using Gyroscope Sensors (퍼스널 모빌리티 제품용 자이로스코프 센서를 이용한 방향지시등 제작을 위한 디자인과 기술에 관한 융복합 연구)

  • As the five-day workweek has been implemented in Korea many people are focusing their attention on hobbies, leisure activities or camping to enjoy the weekend. Recently many workers are purchasing personal mobility devices for commute, due to the launch of cheap personal mobility devices by Xiaomi. Under such circumstances, this study aimed to develop turn signals by using gyroscope sensors for safe use of personal mobility devices or for leisure activities. This study focused on previous cases of turn signal production for the safety during leisure activities or for personal mobility devices and analyzed their cases and identified problems. This study further presented an alternative design to overcome such problems and to develop turn signals for the safety of users. This is ring shape and included LED and then it expresses user's direction for backside. This study is one of the solution for safety of personal mobility product user.

Surface EMG Amplitude Estimation by using Spike and Turn Variables (Spike와 Turn 변수를 이용한 표면근전도 신호의 진폭 추정)

  • The EMG amplitude estimator, which has been investigated as an indicator of muscle force, is of high relevance not only in biomechanical studies but also more and more in clinical applications. This paper presents a new approach to estimate surface EMG amplitude by using the mean spike and mean turn amplitude(MSA and MTA) variables. Surface EMG signals, a total of 198 signals, were recorded from biceps brachii muscle over the range of 20-80%MVC isometric contraction and performance of the MSA and MTA variables applied to amplitude estimation of the EMG signals were investigated. To examine the performance, a SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) was computed from each amplitude estimate. The results of the study indicate that MSA and MTA amplitude estimations with first order whitening filter and 300[ms]-350[ms] moving average window length are optimal and show better performance(mean SNR improvement of 6%-15%) than the most frequently used variables(ARV and RMS).

Warrants of Permissive Left-Turn Signal Systems Based on a Cross Road Volumes (교차도로 교통량을 고려한 비보호좌회전 신호체계의 적용기준)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the criteria for implementing unprotected left turn at intersections with variation of traffic volume on a cross road approach. Using Transyt-7F model, the delays calculated from permissive and protected left turn signal system were compared by gradually increasing the left turn volume for a certain opposing through volume up to the volume limits to which permissive left turn is more effective, Average stopped delay of the intersection was used as the measure of effectiveness in this study. The major conclusions are (1) the lighter the traffic gets in a cross road, the more the allowable left turn volume increases. The allowable left turn volume when the ratio of cross traffic to the concerned approach traffic is 0.6 appears about 50% more than the volume when the ratio is 1.0. (2) Comparing to the criteria of the manual of traffic safety facility, the results when the traffic ratio is 0.6 seem to be most similar the criteria of manual and the results when the traffic ratio are 0.8 and 1.0 appears to be lower than the criteria of manual. (3) The possible amount of making a left turn that is inversely proportional to the opposing through traffic, decreases as the number of opposing through lanes increases. The products of volume need to be used as the criteria of permissive left turn with considerable cautions because of its low consistency.

  • When traveling on real road network, it generally takes less travel time in a near straight path than a zig-zaged path with same source and destination. In order to making a left(right/u) turn, the delay should be required to decrease the speed. The traffic signal waiting time of left(right/u) turn is probably longer than straight driving. In this paper, we revise the previous hierarchical path finding algorithm to reduce the number of turns. The algorithm proposed in this paper complied with a hierarchical $A^*$ algorithm, but has a distinct strategy for edge weight. We define an edge that makes a turn as a turn-edge and give the turn-edge lower weight to maintain the straightness of the whole path.

Fast Lamp Pairing-based Vehicle Detection Robust to Atypical and Turn Signal Lamps at Night

  • Automatic vehicle detection is a very important function for autonomous vehicles. Conventional vehicle detection approaches are based on visible-light images obtained from cameras mounted on a vehicle in the daytime. However, unlike daytime, a visible-light image is generally dark at night, and the contrast is low, which makes it difficult to recognize a vehicle. As a feature point that can be used even in the low light conditions of nighttime, the rear lamp is virtually unique. However, conventional rear lamp-based detection methods seldom cope with atypical lamps, such as LED lamps, or flashing turn signals. In this paper, we detect atypical lamps by blurring the lamp area with a low pass filter (LPF) to make out the lamp shape. We also propose to detect flickering of the turn signal lamp in a manner such that the lamp area is vertically projected, and the maximum difference of two paired lamps is examined. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a higher F-measure value of 0.24 than the conventional lamp pairing-based detection methods, on average. In addition, the proposed algorithm shows a fast processing time of 6.4 ms per frame, which verifies real-time performance of the proposed algorithm.

Short-circuit Protection for the Series-Connected Switches in High Voltage Applications

  • This paper presents the development of a short-circuit protection mechanism on a high voltage switch (HVS) board which is built by a series connection of semiconductor switches. The HVS board is able to quickly detect and limit the peak fault current before the signal board triggers off a gate signal. Voltage clamping techniques are used to safely turn off the short-circuit current and to prevent overvoltage of the series-connected switches. The selection method of the main devices and the development of the HVS board are described in detail. Experimental results have demonstrated that the HVS board is capable of withstanding a short-circuit current at a rated voltage of 10kV without a di/dt slowing down inductor. The corresponding short-circuit current is restricted to 125 A within 100 ns and can safely turn off within 120 ns.

  • This paper deals with the multiresolution analysis of wavelet transform for partial discharge(PD). Test arrangement is based on the needle-plane electrode system and applied AC high voltage. The measured PD signal was decomposed into "approximations" and "details". The approximation are the high scale, low-frequency components of the PD signal. The details are the low-scale, high frequency components. The decomposition process are iterated to 3 level, with successive approximation being decomposed in turn, so that PD signal is broken down into many lower-resolution components. Through the procedure of signal wavelet transform, signal noise extraction and signal reconstruction, the signal is analyzed to determine the magnitude of PD.

When approved current in each phase by decided position, we made sure current and voltage according to turn-on, turn-off. In dynamic simulation of LSRM, through an experiment, we decided turn-on position of inductance profile. Also, we presented dynamic characteristic analysis model which is consisted at motor and sensor signal part, etc., and substitute circuit constant that get using magnetic equivalent circuit method, we confirmed current and voltage waveform.
