The auxiliary structures of a high-rise building, such as balconies, ribs, and grids, are usually much smaller than the whole building; therefore, it is difficult to simulate them on a scaled model during wind tunnel tests, and they are often ignored. However, they may have notable effects on the local or overall wind loads of the building. In the present study, a series of wind pressure wind tunnel tests and high-frequency force balance (HFFB) wind tunnel tests were conducted on rigid models of an actual super high-rise building with vertical ribs protruding from its facades. The effects of the depth and spacing of vertical ribs on the mean values, fluctuating values and the most unfavorable values of the local wind pressure coefficients were investigated by analyzing the distribution of wind pressure coefficients on the facades and the variations of the wind pressure coefficients at the cross section at 2/3 of the building height versus wind direction angle. In addition, the effects of the depth and spacing of vertical ribs on the mean values, fluctuating values and power spectra of the overall aerodynamic force coefficients were studied by analyzing the aerodynamic base moment coefficients. The results show that vertical ribs significantly decrease the most unfavorable suction coefficients in the corner recession regions and edge regions of facades and increase the mean and fluctuating along-wind overall aerodynamic forces.

Spatial Structure has suffered from a lot of damage due to the use of lightweight roofs. Among them, the damage caused by strong winds was the greatest, and the failure of the calculation of the wind load was the most frequent cause. It provides that wind tunnel test is used to calculate the wind load. However, it is often the case that the wind load is calculated based on the standard of wind load in the development design stage. Therefore based on this, the structure type and structural system and member design are often determined. Spatial structure is usually open at a certain area. The retractable roof structure should be operated with the open roof in some cases, so the wind load for the open shape should be considered, but it is not clear on the basis of the wind load standard. In this paper, the design wind pressure of a closed and retractable roof structure is calculated by KBC2016, AIJ2004, ASCE7-10, EN2005, and the applicability of wind pressure coefficient is compared with wind tunnel test.

The ground deformation due to the tunnel excavation is dependent on various factors such as ground condition, geometry of the tunnel, excavation method, installation of support members, construction condition of each excavation stage, etc. And the distance from the facing effects significantly the stress conditions of the supported and unsupported ground due to the 3-dimensional structural nature of the excavated tunnel. The concept of ground characteristic line has been applied to properly consider the loading condition given by staged tunnel excavation so that the imaginary supporting pressure is applied against the surface of excavated ground. Discussions on the results of the performed finite element analysis were mainly made with respect to the ground settlement, tunnel displacement, earth pressure, stress mobilized in supporting members.

The water supply tunnel has different characteristics which play a important role in stable water supply to the public from mechanical behavior and maintenance in comparison with road md railway tunnel. In this study, the present state and characteristics of water supply tunnels controlled by K-water have been investigated. The distribution of effective stresses that takes into account the effect of seepage forces induced by internal water pressure are estimated from closed-form and numerical method. The analysis of stress-strain behavior, seepage problem and hydrojacking for ensuring safety of existing water supply tunnel against neighboring new construction has been conducted.

With increasing the number of tunnel constructions, more reliable analysis methods for tunnel excavation is needed to accomplish technically sound design, and stable and economical constructions. For this purpose, a series of construction procedures, which include excavation and support stages of tunneling, need to be considered. In this study, therefore, rock-support response behavior due to railway tunnel construction has been examined by using analytic methods and numerical calculations. For examining rock-support response behavior, the effects of shotcrete, thickness and time of installation have been considered. Through analytic and numerical calculations, it is shown that support pressure becomes higher with increasing the shotcrete thickness and stiffness, and hence the tunnel deformation tends to be stable. It is also important to notice that there is a significant effect of shotcrete installation time on the tunnel deformation, although no significant change in support pressure is observed.
Flew control devices, such as flow liners, are frequently introduced in a cavitation tunnel in order to reduce the tunnel blockage effect, when a three-dimensional wake distribution is simulated using a complete ship model or a dummy model. In order to estimate the tunnel wall effect and to evaluate the effect of flow liners on the simulated wake distribution, a surface panel method is adopted for the calculation of the flow around a ship model and flow liners installed in a rectangular test section off cavitation tunnel. Calculation results on the Sydney Express ship model show that the tunnel wall effect on the hull surface pressure distribution is negligible for less than 5% blockage and can be appreciable for more than 20% blockage. The flow liners accelerate the flow near the afterbody of the ship model, so that the pressure gradient there becomes more favorable and accordingly the boundary layer thickness would be reduced. Since the resulting wake distribution is assumed to resemble the full scale wake, flow liners can also be used to simulate an estimated full scale wake without modifying the ship model. Boundary taper calculation should be incorporated in order to correlate the calculated wake distribution with the measured one.
In this study, scaled model tests were performed to investigate the deformation behaviors around tunnels located in anisotropic rocks. Fifteen types of test models which had respectively different joint angles and rock pressure conditions were made, where the modelling materials were the mixture of sand, plaster and water. All of the tested models showed the shear failure mechanism at the stress-concentrated regions and sliding phenomena according to the joint planes. The direction of joint inclination turned out to have great effect on the tunnel deformation behaviors. The models of joint inclination less than $30^{\circ}$ showed considerable floor heavings. The model of $50^{\circ}$ joint inclination showed the least tunnel convergence among the tested models regardless of rock pressure condition, so that it was thought as the most stable model. Furthermore, the failure mechanisms and deformation behaviors of tunnel models were strongly dependent on the coefficient of rock pressure.

Scaled model tests were performed to explore the influence of eccentric load and lateral earth pressure on tunnel behavior and their results were verified through numerical analyses. As a method for reducing the eccentric load acting on tunnel, an eccentric supporting system (ESS) was proposed and its applicability was investigated. Experimental results showed that displacement decreased overall and the load inducing initial cracks increased as the eccentric supporting system was applied. The maximum eccentric vertical load which impacted the stability of tunnel was also increased. The test results on the influence of lateral earth pressure on tunnel behavior showed that the general aspect of displacement and crack growth changed significantly depending on the coefficient of lateral earth pressure. In addition, the weak zone In view of stability varied as well.

This paper presents two-step simulations to calculate the influence of blast-induced pressures on explosion-protection valves installed at the boundary between a protection facility and a tunnel entering the facility. The first step is to calculate the respective overpressure on the entrance and exit of the tunnel when an explosion occurs near the tunnel entrance and exit to approach the protection facility. Secondly, the blast pressures on the explosion-protection valves mounted to walls located near the tunnel inside approaching the protection facility are analyzed with a 0.1 ms time variation using the results obtained from the first-step calculations. The following conclusions could be derived as a results: (1) The analysis of the entrance tunnel scenario, P1, leads to the maximum overpressure of 47 kPa, approximately a half of the ambient pressure, at the inner entrance due to the effect of blast barrier. For the scenario, P2, the case not blocked by the barrier, the maximum overpressure is 628 kPa, which is relatively high, namely, 5.2 times the ambient pressure. (2) It is observed that the pressure for the entrance tunnel is effectively mitigated because the initial blast pressures are partially offset from each other according to the geometry of the entrance and a portion of the pressures is discharged to the outside.

This study was performed to investigate the bending stresses of tunnel shotcrete as a function of the coefficient of lateral earth pressure. To perform this study, a large scale model tunnel with an one-lane horseshoe shaped road tunnel was prepared. The 3 dimensional numerical analyses were carried out to verify the results obtained from the model tests. For the loading system during the tests, 11 cylinder pressure jacks which can be controlled individually were used to simulate various loading conditions. The tests were preformed three times with three different lateral earth pressure coefficients of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. The bending stresses of shotcrete measured in tests were compared and analyzed with those calculated from numerical analyses. As a result, it was found that the bending compressive stresses obtained from numerical analyses were similar to those of tunnel model tests and bending tensile stresses were slightly overestimated during numerical analyses.
