  • In this paper, we proposed image processing technique for automatic real time fire and smoke detection in tunnel environment. To avoid the large scale of damage of fire occurred in the tunnel, it is necessary to have a system to minimize and to discover the incident as fast as possible. The fire and smoke detection is different from the forest fire detection as there are elements such as car and tunnel lights and others that are different from the forest environment so that an indigenous algorithm has to be developed. The two algorithms proposed in this paper, are able to detect the exact position, at the earlier stage of incident.

Wind Environment Assessment around High-Rise Buildings through Wind Tunnel Test and Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • High-rise buildings constructed adjacent to low-rise structures experience frequent damage caused by the associated strong wind. This study aimed to implement a standard evaluation of the wind environment and airflow characteristics around high-rise apartment blocks using wind tunnel tests (WTT) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The correlation coefficient between the CFD and wind tunnel results ranged between 0.6-0.8. Correlations below 0.8 were due to differences in the wake flow area range generated behind the target building according to wind direction angle and the effect of the surrounding buildings. In addition, a difference was observed between the average velocity ratio of the wake flow wind measured by the WTT and by the CFD analysis. The wind velocity values of the CFD analysis were therefore compensated, and, consequently, the correlations for most wind angles increased.

철도터널 내 화재 시 대피환경 확보를 위한 임계속도 산정식의 유효성 평가 (Effectiveness of critical velocity method for evacuation environment in a railroad tunnel at fire situation)

  • 본 연구에서는 3차원 전산유체역학 기법을 이용하여 열차터널 내 10MW급 화재발생 시, 대피환경에 대한 1차원 임계속도의 유효성을 평가하였다. 또한 터널의 입구속도가 1m/s, 2m/s (임계속도) 그리고 3m/s일 때의 터널 내 기류분포, 온도분포, 가시거리분포 및 오염물질분포가 대피환경에 미치는 영향을 각각 검토하였다. 그 결과, 세 가지 경우모두, 승객의 안전한 대피환경을 충분하게 제공하지 못할 것으로 예상되어 승객들은 유동방향 하류로 대피하여야 한다. 그러나 3m/s 입구속도의 경우는 1m/s, 2m/s의 경우 보다 승객의 대피환경에 있어서 좀 더 나은 결과를 보인다. 따라서 터널의 방재시스템의 설계 시, 안전한 대피환경을 확보하기 위해서는 임계속도보다 큰 입구속도의 시용이 요구된다.

Hydrodynamic fish modeling for potential-expansion evaluations of exotic species (largemouth bass) on waterway tunnel of Andong-Imha Reservoir

  • Background: The objectives of this study were to establish a swimming capability model for largemouth bass using the FishXing (version 3) program, and to determine the swimming speed and feasibility of fish passage through a waterway tunnel. This modeling aimed to replicate the waterway tunnel connecting the Andong and Imha Reservoirs in South Korea, where there is a concern that largemouth bass may be able to pass through this structure. As largemouth bass are considered an invasive species, this spread could have repercussions for the local environment. Results: Flow regime of water through the waterway tunnel was calculated via the simulation of waterway tunnel operation, and the capability of largemouth bass to pass through the waterway tunnel was then estimated. The swimming speed and distance of the largemouth bass had a positive linear function with total length and negative linear function with the flow rate of the waterway tunnel. The passing rate of small-size largemouth bass (10-30 cm) was 0%at a flow of $10m^3/s$ due to rapid exhaustion from prolonged upstream swimming through the long (1.952 km) waterway tunnel. Conclusions: The results of FishXing showed that the potential passing rate of large size largemouth bass (>40 cm) through the waterway tunnel was greater than 10%; however, the passage of largemouth bass was not possible because of the mesh size ($3.4{\times}6.0cm$) of the pre-screening structures at the entrance of the waterway tunnel. Overall, this study suggests that the spread of largemouth bass population in the Imha Reservoir through the waterway tunnel is most likely impossible.

국내 최초 소형차 전용 도심지 대심도 복층터널 설계 사례 (A Case Study for the 1st Double-level Tunnel for Light vehicle in Urban Area in Korea)

  • The west express way is notorious for extremely heavy traffic area in the west of Seoul, South Korea. Hence, the city government recently initiated a new underground BTO (Build-Transfer-Operate) road project to solve traffic congestion and a high construction cost. The proposed underground express road being designed is the first double-level tunnel ever designed in South Korea and using Conventional tunnelling method (NATM). A total length of tunnel for light vehicles is 10.91km long including both open cut structures and concrete lining with middle-deck in bored tunnel. There are also 4 ventilation shafts for ventilation and evacuation on emergency. Many design issues had been aroused during the preliminary design phase and detail design phase is currently going on. This paper discusses design focuses including excavation methods, ground water issues, a deck slab installation, and a construction cost etc. for the double level road tunnel design of urban area.

어류 차단 스크린 설치에 따른 안동-임하호 연결터널 내 흐름변화에 대한 전산유체동역학 수치모의 (Computational Fluid Dynamics Simulation of Flow Pattern Change in the Andong-Imha Reservoir Connecting Tunnel Due to Fish Exclusion Screens)

  • Imha Reservoir is connected to Andong Reservoir via a diversion tunnel allowing water to pass between. The diversion tunnel is equipped with screens to exclude exotic largemouth bass due to their predatory impacts on prey assemblages resulting in a degradation of species richness of local fish fauna and extinction of local fish populations in Korea. Flow pattern changes resulting from the fish screens and trash racks were investigated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Numerical simulations showed that the decrease in the discharge capacity of the tunnel is approximately 8.6% and the headloss coefficient for fish screen at Andong intake tower was determined to be 1.5. In order not to allow the small fishes enough to pass through the wire openings enter into Imha Reservoir through tunnel, the velocity in the tunnel should be greater than 1.48 m/s which is a critical ascending velocity of the bass. This study suggests that it can keep the velocity higher enough to exclude largemouth bass when a gate opens with the condition of 1.0m difference in water stage between two reservoirs.

Reliability analysis of anti-seismic stability of 3D pressurized tunnel faces by response surfaces method

  • The limit analysis and response surfaces method were combined to investigate the reliability of pressurized tunnel faces subjected to seismic force. The quasi-static method was utilized to introduce seismic force into the tunnel face. A 3D horn failure mechanism of pressurized tunnel faces subjected to seismic force was constructed. The collapse pressure of pressurized tunnel faces was solved by the kinematical approach. The limit state equation of pressurized tunnel faces was obtained according to the collapse pressure and support pressure. And then a reliability model of pressurized tunnel faces was established. The feasibility and superiority of the response surfaces method was verified by comparing with the Monte Carlo method. The influence of the mean of soil parameters and support pressure, variation coefficients, distribution type and correlation of c-φ on the reliability of pressurized tunnel faces was discussed. The reasonable safety factor and support pressure required by pressurized tunnel faces to satisfy 3 safety levels were presented. In addition, the effects of horizontal seismic force, vertical seismic force and correlation of kh-kv on the reliability of pressurized tunnel faces were also performed. The method of this work can give a new idea for anti-seismic design of pressurized tunnel faces.

터널 화재의 실시간 조기 탐지를 위한 화염 및 연기 검출 기법 (Flame and Smoke Detection Method for Early and Real-Time Detection of Tunnel Fire)

  • 본 논문에서는 터널 환경 내에서 발생할 수 있는 화재를 조기에 실시간으로 탐지하기 위한 시각 처리 기법을 제시한다. 다양한 환경 하에서 화재 발생 시 이를 조기에 발견하여 인명 및 재산 피해를 최대한 줄이기 위한 목적을 가지고 많은 연구들이 제안되었다. 그러나 터널 화재 탐지의 경우 터널 환경이라는 특이성 때문에 기존의 화재 탐지 기법을 적용하기 어려우며, 터널 공간에 특성화된 새로운 알고리즘이 필요하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 컬러정보를 기반으로 한 화염 후보 영역 검출기법, 움직임 정보를 기반으로 한 연기 후보 영역 검출 기법을 사용하고 모폴로지 기법, 재검증 및 제거 기법을 이용하여 화재 검출 시 발생할 수 있는 오검출 영역을 제거하는 방법을 통해서 정확한 위치 탐지와 조기 탐지가 가능한 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한 실험 결과를 통해 각각의 성능을 비교함으로써 제시한 알고리즘의 타당성을 보여주었다.

음향신호 기반 터널 돌발상황 검지시스템 (Acoustic Signal-Based Tunnel Incident Detection System)

  • 본 연구에서는 음향신호 처리기반 터널 돌발상황 탐지시스템을 개발하고 평가하였다. 개발 시스템은 알고리즘, 음향신호 수집기, 서버시스템 세 가지 구성 요소로 구성된다. 비음수 텐서 분해와 은닉 마코프 모델을 이용하여 돌발상황음(충돌, 스키드)을 검출한다. 개발시스템 성능은 제한된 환경과 실제 운영환경에서 평가되었다. 그 결과, 제한된 환경 평가에서 거리별로 80~95%의 검지성능을 보였고, 실제 운영환경에서는 94% 검지성능을 보였다. 기존의 터널 돌발상황 검지기술인 영상 및 루프검지기 기반 시스템 성능과 비교한 결과, 본 개발 기술의 장점은 신속한 검지시간(2초 이내)인 것으로 나타났다.
