We often use induction motor in the hard environment including vibration and high ambient temperature, or in maintenance free operation, because induction motor has durable and simple structure. However, when we use it as servo actuator or accurate speed control motor, we have to equip sensor such as encoder and tachogenerator with the motor control system. And generally those sensor's abilities against bad environment are less than the induction motor itself, So if we can remove these sensors from the system, it'll have more environmental resistance, and the cost will also be reduced. Actually this removal has been achieved in limited field. However, that needs complex calculations and a certain elapse time for data processing. In our study, we intended to estimate the rotational speed from the motor current instead of speed sensor, easily and rapidly in comparison to former methods.

The pulse detonation engine (PDE) has recently expected as a new aerospace propulsion system. The PDE system has high thermal efficiency because of its constant-volume combustion and its simple tube structure. We measured thrust of single-tube pulse detonation rocket (PDR) by two methods using the PDR-Engineering Model (full scale model) for ground testing. The first involved measuring the displacement of the PDR-EM by laser displacement meter, and the second involved measuring the time-averaged thrust by combining a load cell and a spring-damper system. From these two measurements, we obtained 130.1 N of time-averaged thrust, which corresponds to 321.2 sec of effective specific impulse (ISP). As well, we measured the heat flux in the wall of PDE tubes. The heat flux was approximately 400 ㎾/$m^2$. We constructed the PDR-Flight Mode] (PDR-FM). In the vertical flight test in a laboratory, the PDR-FM was flying and keeping its altitude almost constant during 0.3 sec.
Understanding the nonlinear flow caused by orographic effects can be valuable in siting of new businesses, industries, and transportation facilities. In spite of recent work on large-amplitude waves and wave breaking, the studies of flow around large scale mountains have just begun. The generative mechanism of lee vortices in the lee of large scale mountain Is investigated by Ertel's theorem. The CSU RAMS is used as a numerical model. According to the numerical results, the isentropes are depressed behind the large scale mountains. This means the vortex lines must run upward and downward along the depression surface because vortex lines adhere to isentropic surfaces. Therefore, the vertically oriented vorticity can be formed in the lee of the large scale mountain. This vorticity plays an important role for orographic Precipitation, because strong vertical velocity and cloud bandy are developed along isothermal deformation surface.

We investigate a multiclass priority system with a mixed service discipline, and propose a new approach to the analysis of performance measures (mean waiting times) of the system. Customers are preferentially served in the order of priority. The service discipline at each station is either gated or exhaustive discipline. We formulate mean waiting times as functions on the state of the system. We first consider the system at an arbitrary system state to obtain explicit formulae for the mean waiting times, and then derive their steady state values by using the property of Poisson arrivals to see time averages and the generalized Little's formula.
In recent years, there has been growing interest in secure pairing, which refers to the establishment of a secure communication channel between two mobile devices. There are a number of descriptions of the various types of out-of-band (OOB) channels, through which authentication data can be transferred under a user's control and involvement. However, none have become widely used due to their lack of adaptability to the variety of mobile devices. In this paper, we introduce a new OOB channel, which uses accelerometer-based gesture input. The gesture-based OOB channel is suitable for all kinds of mobile devices, including input/output constraint devices, as the accelerometer is small and incurs only a small computational overhead. We implemented and evaluated the channel using an Apple iPhone handset. The results demonstrate that the channel is viable with completion times and error rates that are comparable with other OOB channels.

Scanning probe microscopes (SPMs) such as the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and the atomic force microscope (AFM) were used for surface modification tools at the nanometer scale. Material surfaces, i. e., titanium, hydrogen-terminated silicon and trimethylsilyl organosilane monolayer on silicon, were locally oxidized with the best lateral spatial resolution of 20nm. The principle behind this proximal probe oxidation method is scanning probe anodization, that is, the SPM tip-sample junction connected through a water column acting as a minute electrochemical cell. An SPM-nanolithogrphy process was demonstrated using the organosilane monolayer as a resist. Area-selective chemical modifications, i. e., etching, electroless plating with gold, monolayer deposition and immobilization of latex nanoparticles; were achieved in nano-scale resolution. The area-selectivity was based on the differences in chemical properties between the SPM-modified and unmodified regions.

In spite of many experimental studies of low-power applied-field magnetoplasmadynamic(AFMPD) thrusters, thrust efficiencies of the past thrusters are very low. Hence, drastic improvement in thrust performance is required for AF-MPD thrusters to compete against other types of electric propulsion in a moderate power regime around 10 kW. For the optimization of AF-MPD thrusters, a numerical code for the flowfield simulation is now under development. A preliminary result shows that the code can deal with a complicated mixture of the induced and applied magnetic fields, which will lead to a combination of the self-field, swirl, Hall, as well as electrothermal accelerations.
We are exposed to numerous xenobiotic electrophiles on a daily basis through the environment, lifestyle, and dietary habits. Although such reactive species have been associated with detrimental effects, recent accumulated evidence indicates that xenobiotic electrophiles appear to act as signaling molecules. In this review, we introduce our findings on 1) activation of various redox signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, detoxification/excretion of electrophiles, quality control of cellular proteins, and cell survival during exposure to xenobiotic electrophiles at low concentrations through covalent modification of thiol groups in sensor proteins, and 2) negative regulation of reactive sulfur species (RSS) in the modulation of redox signaling and toxicity caused by xenobiotic electrophiles.
The continuous development of in-vehicle information systems in recent years has dramatically enriched drivers' driving experience while occupying their cognitive resources to varying degrees, causing driving distraction. Under this complex information system, managing the complexity and priority of information and further improvement in driving safety has become a key issue that needs to be urgently solved by the in-vehicle information system. The new interactive methods incorporating the augmented reality (AR) and head-up display (HUD) technologies into in-vehicle information systems are currently receiving widespread attention. This superimposes various onboard information into an actual driving scene, thereby meeting the needs of complex tasks and improving driving safety. Based on the qualitative research methods of surveys and telephone interviews, this study collects the information needs of the target user groups (i.e., beginners and skilled drivers) and constructs a three-mode information database to provide the basis for a customized AR-HUD interface design.
