  • Treeing due to partial discharge(PD) is one of the main causes of breakdown of the insulating materials and reduction of tile insulation life. Therefore the necessity for establishing a method to diagnose the aging of insulation materials and to predict the breakdown of insulation has become important. From this viewpoint, our studies diagnose insulation degradation using the method of computer sensing system, which has the advantages of PD and acoustic emission(AE) sensing system. To use advantages of these two methods can be used effectively to search for treeing location and PD in some materials. In analysis method of degradation. using statically operator such as the center of gravity (G). the gradient of the discharge distribution(C), we have analyzed far tole prediction of life which we can be obtained the time, occurred of many pulse of small discharge amplitude.

  • Because of internal voids ininsulators give rise to partial discharge(PD), which cause local breakdown and even entire insulation breakdown. Treeing due to PD is one of the main causes of breakdown of the insulating materials and reduction of the insulation life. We analyzed the PD pulse and AE pulses by regression analysis, compared to these obtained the correlation coefficient and determination coefficient by T-distribution and saw that PD and AE pulses show a similar pattern on the whole. Finally using statically operator such as the center of gravity(G), the gradient of the discharge distribution(C), we have analyzed for the prediction of life which we can be obtained the time, occurred of many pulse of small discharge amplitude.

  • Exploitation of equipment with cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation requires its condition monitoring and diagnostic. Traditionally diagnostics of insulation is carried out by means of partial discharge detection. Many researchers have developed a lot of methods to identify the defect by the PD form. However, such identification of a defect, for example, void, inclusion or treeing, does not say about its danger from a point of view of full insulation gap breakdown and insulation construction failure. The information about the form and size of formed upon high voltage treeing is necessary for prediction of the remained resource of XLPE insulation. For this purpose we carry out experimental research for determination of the dependencies between PD characteristics in XLPE upon time and three dimension PD patterns of corresponding treeing. The investigations were carried out by means of electrical measurement of PD current and simultaneous optical recording of treeing image. Test results show that the PD patterns can be applied for detecting tree growth well.

  • In this paper, characteristics of Acoustic Emission in Low Density Polyethylene were studied from tree initiation to breakdown under long-term inhomogeneous alternative electrical field. The voltage levels used were 9, 11 and 14[kV]. Especially, a newly developed automatic measuring system was used to measure time variations of AE average amplitude, AE pulse number, AE pulse distribution patterns due to polarities. The patterns wer specially the variated patterns, when tree propagated. Also, parameters for dielectric breakdown prediction, which were suggested by Okamoto, were calculated. The result was analysed by tree shapes and partial discharge activities in tree due to tree initiation and propagation.
