In orthotropic steel decks, it is likely to have defects due to fatigue damages because most of structural joints(the connection of longitudinal rib and transverse rib, the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib) are connected by welds. However. orthotropic steel decks have many advantages. such as light weight and reduction of construction time. in comparison with concrete decks. Therefore. they are mostly used in long-span bridges and urban highway bridges. This study consists of the cause identication of fatigue damage and the suggestion of rational thickness on deck plate about the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib. The results are as follows: fatigue damage cause at the connection of deck plate and longitudinal rib is local deformation in deck plate. And, rational thickness of deck plate is 16mm thickness.
The ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector is a ㄱ type flat steel plate with a number of holes punched through. This connector can be effectively used in girder with high shear. The ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector exhibit very stiff behaviour under service load conditions and also had the characteristic of retaining a significant amount of load after the attainment of ultimate capacity. A regression analysis, which is based on a model that takes into account the contributions of concrete dowels formed by the rib holes, the transverse reinforcement, the strength of concrete in front of the rib, and the ㄱ type plate as well as a nonlinear finite element analysis, is used in the derivation. An empirical equation for the design of ㄱ type perfobond rib shear connector is proposed.

The elastic budding strength of a GFRP pipe reinforced with ribs was evaluated. The height and thickness of a rib and the spacing between two adjacent ribs were considered as factors affecting tlje budding strength of the pipe. And also, the ratio of the longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness was considered as the parameter affecting on the budding strength because GFRP is orthotropic material. Buckling strengths of various GFRP pipe models with different shapes and stiffness ratio were evaluated by FE analyses and a formula to estimate the elastic buckling strength of a rib-reinforced pipe made of orthotropic material was suggested from the regression with FE analysis results. Analysis results show that a rib-reinforced pipe has superior buckling strength to a general flat pipe and the suggested formula estimates accurate buckling strength of the rib-reinforced pipe.
The present study investigates the heat transfer characteristics of a triangular channel. Three different rib configurations are tested. The ribs are installed on two sides of the channel. The rib height (e) to channel hydraulic diameter is 0.079 and the rib-to-rib pitch (p) is 8 times of the rib height. The rotation number ranges from 0.0 to 0.1 while the Reynolds number is fixed at 10,000. The copper blocks with heaters are installed on the channel walls to measure the regionally averaged heat transfer coefficients. For the stationary $45^{\circ}$ and $135^{\circ}$ ribbed channels, a pair of counter rotating vortices is induced by the angled rib arrangements, and high heat transfer coefficients are obtained on the regions near the inner wall for the $45^{\circ}$ ribbed channel and near the leading edge for the $90^{\circ}$ ribbed channel. The heat transfer coefficients of angled ribbed channels are changed little with rotation, whereas those of the transverse ribbed channel are changed significantly with rotation.
Two cases of traumatic diaphragmatic hernia are reported, who were operated on in this department during the last 12 months` period. The first case, a 34 year old male, fell from 6 meters` height while he was working on electric pole. He sustained rib fractures, left 8th, 9th and 10th rib, left diaphragmatic rupture and ileal perforation. In the pleural cavity, there were stomach, omentum, left lobe of liver, transverse colon and ileum, which were reduced into the peritoneal cavity, and the diaphragmatic aperture was closed through anterolateral thoracotomy. After closure of the thoracic incision, median abdominal incision was made and closed the ileal perforation by primary suture. The second case was a 19 year old tyre repairman, who felt abrupt severe abdominal pain during lifting a heavy lyre. A barium study revealed a marked displacement of the stomach into the left pleural cavity. Immediately, thoracotomy was performed and closed the ruptured diaphragm after reduction of the herniated stomach, omentum, transverse colon, spleen and small intestine. The size of the diaphragmatic aperture were measured 17cm. in first case and 12cm. in the other respectively. Both cases discharged after uneventful recovery.
NHTSA has been conducting biomechanical studies to reduce inujuries sustained sustained during automotive collision. Furthermore, NHTSA added the regulation to the FMVSS 201, limiting the equivalent HIC(Head Injury Criterion) value under 1000. In the presont work, a methodology was developed for the optimum design of the A-pillar trim with rib-structures. The design variables for the rib-strucrures were the transverse spacing, the longitudinal spacing, and the thickness. The required sets of the design varibles were decided based on the design of experiments. The head impact simulations were carried out using the LS-DYNA3D, and the HIC(d) values were computed using the resulrs of the head impact simulation. The objective function was constructed using the response surface methed (RSM). When the obtained optimum values were not inside the region of interest, the design proceduers were repeated by changing the region of interest. Finally, an A-pillar trim with rib-structures, which resulred in HIC(d) value under 850 for 15 mph head-trim impact, was developed.
The influence of arrangement and length of discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer and friction loss is investigated. Mass transfer experiments are conducted to obtain the detailed local heat/mass transfer information on the ribbed wall. The aspect ratio (width/height) of the duct is 2.04 and the rib height is one tenth of the duct height, such that the ratio of the rib height to hydraulic diameter is 0.0743. The ratio of rib-to-rib distance to rib height is 10. The discrete ribs were made by dividing each continuous rib into 2, 3 or 5 pieces and attached periodically to the top and the bottom walls of the duct with a parallel orientation The combined effects of rib angle and length of the discrete ribs on heat/mass transfer ae considered for the rib angles $({\alpha})\;of\;90^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$. As the number of the discrete ribs increases, the uniformity of the heat/mass transfer distributions increases. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the heat/mass transfer enhancement with the discrete ribs is remarkable, while the heat/mass transfer performances are slightly higher than that of the transverse continuous ribs due to the accompanied high friction loss penalty. For $(\alpha})=90^{\circ}$, the average heat/mass transfer coefficients and the heat/mass transfer performances decrease slightly with the discrete ribs compared to the case of the angled continuous ribs.
The present study is conducted to investigate the effect of rib arrangements on an impingement/effusion cooling system with initial crossflow. To simulate the impingement/effusion cooling system, two perforated plates are placed in parallel and staggered arrangements with a gap distance of 2 times of tile hole diameter. Initial crossflow passes between the injection and effusion plates, and the square ribs (3mm) are installed on the effusion plate. Both the injection and effusion hole diameters are 10mmand Reynolds number based on the hole diameter and hole-to-hole pitch are fixed to 10,000 and 6 times of the hole diameter, respectively. To investigate the effects of rib arrangements, various rib arrangements, such as 90$^{\circ}$transverse and 45$^{\circ}$angled rib arrangements, are used. Also, the effects of flow rate ratio of crossflow to impinging jets are investigated. With the initial crossflow, locally low transfer regions are formed because the wall jets are swept away, and level of heat transfer rate get decreased with increasing flow rate of crossflow. When the ribs are installed on the effusion plate, the local distributions of heat/mass transfer coefficients around the effusion holes are changed. The local heat/mass transfer around the stagnation regions and the effusion holes are affected by the rib positions, angle of attack and rib spacing. For low blowing ratio, the ribs have adverse effects on heat/mass transfer, but for higher blowing ratios, higher and more uniform heat transfer coefficient distributions are obtained than the case without ribs because the ribs prevent the wall jets from being swept away by the crossflow and increase local turbulence of the flow near the surface. Average heat transfer coefficients with rib turbulators are approximately 10% higher than that without ribs, and the higher values are obtained with small pitch of ribs. However, the attack angle of the rib has little influence on the average heat/mass transfer.
본 연구에서는 리브로 보강된 GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) 관로의 탄성 좌굴 강도를 산정하였다.
