Prediction of 3-D permeability tensor for multi-axial preform is critical to model and design the manufacturing process of composites by considering resin flow through the multi-axial fiber structure. In this study, the in-plane and transverse permeabilities for braided preform are predicted numerically. The flow analyses are calculated by using 3-D CVFEM(control volume finite element method) for macro-unit cells. To avoid checker-board pressure field and improve the efficiency of numerical computation, a new interpolation function for velocity is proposed on the basis of analytic solutions. Permeability of a braided preform is measured through unidirectional flow experiment and compared with the permeability calculated numerically. Unlike other studies, the current study is based on more realistic unit cell and prediction of permeability is improved.

The critical fluid velocity of cantilevered cylindrical shells subjected to internal fluid flow is investigated in this study. The fluid-structure interaction is considered in the analysis. The cantilevered cylindrical shell is supported intermediately at an arbitrary axial position. The intermediate support is simulated by two types of artificial springs: translational and rotational spring. It is assumed that the artificial springs are placed continuously and uniformly on the middle surface of an intermediate support along the circumferential direction. The steady flow of fluid is described by the classical potential flow theory. The motion of shell is represented by the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to account for rotary inertia and transverse shear strains. The effect of internal fluid can be considered by imposing a relation between the fluid pressure and the radial displacement of the structure at the interface. Numerical examples are presented and compared with existing results.
Predictive behaviors by the extended k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model are compared. Grid dependency is tested with the H-type grid as well as the O-type grid. Computations have been performed on a circular-to-rectangular transition duct. The Reynolds number is 390,000 based on the bulk velocity at the inlet. The computed axial velocity contours, transverse velocity profiles, static pressure contours, peripheral skin friction coefficient, peripheral wall static pressure distributions and turbulence kinetic energy have been compared with experimental results. The computed results than those obtained with the standard k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. Comparing to the computed results obtained with the H-type grid and O-type grid, those with H-type grid seem to agree well with experimental results.

We investigate the slippage effect in a micro-channel depending on the surface characteristics; hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and super-hydrophobic wettabilities. The micro-scale grooves are fabricated on the vertical wall to make the super-hydrophobic surfaces, which enable us visualize the flow fields near walls and directly measure the slip length. Velocity profiles are measured using micro-particle image velocimetry (Micro-PIV) and compared those in the hydrophilic glass, hydrophobic PDMS, and super-hydrophobic PDMS micro-channels. To directly measure the velocity in the super-hydrophobic micro-channel, the transverse groove structures are fabricated on the vertical wall in the micro-channel. The velocity profile near the wall shows larger slip length and, if the groove structure is high and wide, the liquid meniscus forms curves into the valley so that the wavy flow is created after the grooves.
Numerical calculation has been performed to investigate the effect of inlet configuration on the growth rate of GaN layer on the heated susceptor. The conventional single inlet, where the gas is mixed by force in the inlet, is compared with separated flow inlet. Two-parallel gas flow $H_{2}$ and $NH_{3}$ are separated by a plate with finite length which are also parallel to the susceptor. The effect of separated plate length, carrier gas and flow rate of each precursor on the mixing of reactant gases and growth rate were investigated. Furthermore the three dimensional model is employed to predict the transverse variation of growth rate.
An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of the transverse open cracks and the moving mass on the dynamic behavior of simply supported pipe conveying fluid. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation. The influences of the velocity of moving mass, the velocity of fluid flow and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a simply supported pipe system by numerical method. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. that is, the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. Totally, as the velocity of fluid flow is increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe conveying fluid is increased. The position of the crack is middle point of the pipe, the mid-span deflection of simply supported pipe presents maximum deflection.
Exact dynamic stiffness model for a uniform straight pipeline conveying unsteady fluid is formulated from a set of fully coupled pipe-dynamic equations of motion, in which the fluid pressure and velocity of internal flow as well as the transverse and axial displacements of the pipeline are all treated as dependent variables. The accuracy of the dynamic stiffness model formulated herein is first verified by comparing its solutions with those obtained by the conventional finite element model. The spectral element analysis based on the present dynamic stiffness model is then conducted to investigate the effects of fluid parameters on the dynamics and stability of an example pipeline problem.
Single crystal 3C-SiC(cubic silicon carbide) thin-films were deposited on Si(100) wafers up to a thickness of 4.3 ${\mu}m$ by APCVD method using HMDS(hexamethyildisilane) at $1350^{\circ}C$. The HMDS flow rate was 0.5 sccm and the carrier gas flow rate was 2.5 slm. The HMDS flow rate was important to get a mirror-like crystal surface. The growth rate of the 3C-SiC films was 4.3 ${\mu}m/hr$. The 3C-SiC epitaxial films grown on Si(100) were characterized by XRD, AFM, RHEED, XPS and raman scattering, respectively. The 3C-SiC distinct phonons of TO(transverse optical) near 796 $cm^{-1}$ and LO(longitudinal optical) near $974{\pm}1cm^{-1}$ were recorded by raman scattering measurement. The hetero-epitaxially grown films were identified as the single crystal 3C-SiC phase by XRD spectra($2{\theta}=41.5^{\circ}$).

In this paper, static and oscillatory loss of stability of carbon nanotube conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Analytically nonlocal effect, transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extend Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Variations of critical flow velocity for analytically nonlocal effect, partially nonlocal effect and local effect of carbon nanopipes are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.
A Problem of low-velocity forced convection in a channel flow with heated wall is of practical importance and widely considered in the design of devices such as heat exchangers, and electronic equipments. Therefore, there is an urgent need for improving heat transfer performance of heated wall in the channel. In the present study, an oscillating vortex generator method is proposed to enhance the heat transfer in a channel. In this method, a rectangular bars are set in the upstream of heated region of the channel. The bars are forced to oscillate normal to the inflow, and then actively and largely generates transverse vortices behind the bars. As a result, this apparatus can enhance the heat transfer rates remarkably. Because of the interaction between the flow and oscillating bars, the variations of the flow and thermal fields become time-dependent state.
