Effects of Water-misting Sprays with Forced Ventilation after Transport during Summer on Meat Quality, Stress Parameters, Glycolytic Potential and Microstructures of Muscle in Broilers

  • Effects of water-misting sprays with forced ventilation after transport during summer on meat quality, stress parameters, glycolytic potential and microstructures of muscle in broilers were investigated. A total of 105 mixed-sex Arbor Acres broilers were divided into three treatment groups: i) 45-min transport without rest (T group), ii) 45-min transport with 1-h rest (TR group), iii) 45-min transport with 15-min water-misting sprays with forced ventilation and 45-min rest (TWFR group). The results showed the TWFR group significantly increased (p<0.05) initial muscle pH ($pH_i$) and ultimate pH ($pH_u$) and significantly reduced $L^*$ (p<0.05), drip loss, cook loss, creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase activity, plasma glucose content, lactate and glycolytic potential when compared with other groups. Microstructure of the muscle from TWFR group broilers under light microscopy showed smaller intercellular spaces among muscle fibers and bundles compared with T group. In conclusion this study indicated water-misting sprays with forced ventilation after transport could relieve the stress caused by transport under high temperature, which was favorable for the broilers' welfare. Furthermore, water-misting sprays with forced ventilation after transport slowed down the postmortem glycolysis rate and inhibited the occurrence of PSE-like meat in broilers. Although rest after transport could also improve the meat quality, the effect was not as significant as water-misting sprays with forced ventilation after transport.

  • Polymers submitted to thermo/electrical stress suffer from ageing that can drastically affect their functional behaviour. Understanding the physico/chemical processes at play during ageing and defining transport regimes in which these mechanisms start to be critical is therefore a prime goal to prevent degradation and to develop new formulation or new materials with improved properties. It is thought that a way to define these critical regimes is to investigate under which conditions (in terms of stress parameters) light is generated in the material by electroluminescence (EL). This can happen through impact excitation/ionization involving hot carriers or upon bi-polar charge recombination (a definition that excludes light from partial discharges, which would sign an advanced stage in the degradation process). After a brief review of the EL phenomenology under DC, we introduce a numerical model of charge transport postulating a recombination controlled electroluminescence. The model output is critically evaluated with special emphasize on the comparison between simulated and experimental light emission. Finally, we comment some open questions and perspectives.

  • This paper presents the numerical study to examine characteristics of fluid flow and solute transport in a rough fracture subject to effective normal stresses. The aperture distribution is generated by using the self-affine fractal model. In order to represent a nonlinear relationship between the supported normal stress and the fracture aperture, we combine a simple mechanical model with the local flow model. The solute transport is simulated using the random walk particle following algorithm. Results of numerical simulations show that the flow is significantly affected by the geometry of aperture distribution varying with the effective normal stress level while it is slightly affected by the fractal dimension that determines the degree of the fracture surface roughness. However, solute transport is influenced by the effective normal stress as well as the fracture surface roughness.

  • 한국 남동해역 취송순환에서의 부정확한 외력의 바람응력 문제에 대한 최적화 방법의 유용성에 관하여 검토하였다. 바람응력은 모델 및 수치적 정식화 과정에서 상층 경계조건 및 외력항으로 고려되었다. 그리고 바람응력 평가에 대한 최적화 방법의 적용성 및 모델변수의 초기값 추정치의 중요성을 검토하였다. 최적화 연구로부터 동해 남부해역의 취송순환에 관한 동한난류의 수송량 변화 및 통해 난수층의 형성과 분포특성을 바람응력, 바람응력 회전성 및 상층두께의 변동으로부터 파악할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 수평적으로 무한히 넓은 천해에 시간에 따라 크기와 방향이 바뀌는 바람이 불 때의 해수의 유량transports)에 대한 이론적인 계산을 할 수 있는 모델을 만들 었다. 이 모델에서 사용하는 선형화된 이론식은 가속력, 편향력(Coriolis force), 바람의 응력(wind stress) 및 저면 마찰력을 포함하고 있으며, 이 모델로부터 해수 유량에 대한 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 일정한 바람이 계속 불 때의 해수유량은 해저면 마찰로 인하여 바람 오른쪽 방향 90 보다 작다. 바람이 불기 시작한 후의 천이상태(transient state)의 유량은 정상류적(steady)인 에크만류( Ekman current) 에다가 시간이 지남에 따라서 크기가 감소하는 관성진동(inertial oscillation)과의 합성으로 나타난다. 바람의 크기가 정현적(sinrsoidal)으로 바뀌는 경우는 유량 벡터 는 바람 변화의 주기와 같은 시간동안 일주회전을 하는 유량타원(transport ellipse) 을 그린다. 바람의 방향이 바뀔 경우 해수유량은 자유관성진동(free inertial oscillation)과 강제진동의 합으로 나타나는데, 이 경우 강제진동의 주기는 바람 방향의 회전주기(rotation period)와 같다. 이 이론적인 해수유량모델은 해에서 시간에 따라 바람이 바뀔 경우 해수와 영양염의 이동에 대한 해석을 하는데 유용 하다.

심장박동수 측정을 통한 항공교통 관제사의 피로와 스트레스 (Air Traffic Controllers' Fatigue and Stress based on Heart Rate Measurement)

  • 본 연구는 교대근무를 수행하는 항공교통 관제사들의 피로와 스트레스와 이에 영향을 미치는 변수와의 연관성을 규명하는 연구이다. 기존 연구결과에 의하면, 관제사의 피로와 스트레스는 근무경과시간, 관할 항공기의 수, 시정 등과 같은 여러 요소에 영향을 받으며, 또한 관제사의 피로와 스트레스는 심장 박동수에 영향을 미치는 것으로 있다고 알려져 있다. 본 논문에서는 항공교통관제사의 피로와 스트레스에 영향을 주는 요소로 근무경과시간, 관할 항공기의 수, 시정을 설정하고, 각 요소와 피로와 스트레스의 정도를 나타내는 심장박동수에 대한 연구 가설을 설정하였다. 실제 수집된 자료를 활용하여 연구가설을 검정한 결과 항공교통관제사의 심장 박동수는 관할 항공기의 수와 근무시간경과에 영향을 받는 것을 확인하였다. 특히, 동일한 대수의 항공기를 관제하는 경우에도, 근무 시간이 경과에 따라서 관제사의 피로와 스트레스 정도가 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Incipient motion criteria of uniform gravel bed under falling spheres in open channel flow

  • Prediction on initial motion of sediment is crucial to evaluate sediment transport and channel stability. The condition of incipient movement of sediment is characterized by bed shear stress, which is generated from force of moving water against the bed of the channel, and by critical shear stress, which depends on force resisting motion of sediment due to the submerged weight of the grains. When the bed shear stress exceeds the critical shear stress, sediment particles begin rolling and sliding at isolated and random locations. In Mountain River, debris flow frequently occurs due to heavy rainfall and can lead some natural stones from mountain slope into the bed river. This phenomenon could add additional forces to sediment transport system in the bed of river and also affect or change direction and magnitude of sediment movement. In this paper, evaluations on incipient motion of uniform coarse gravel under falling spheres impacts using small scale flume channel were conducted. The drag force of falling spheres due to water flow and length movement of falling spheres were investigated. The experiments were carried out in flume channel made by glass wall and steel floor with 12 m long, 0.6 m wide, and 0.6 m deep. The bed slopes were selected with the range from 0.7% to 1.5%. The thickness of granular layer was at least 3 times of diameter of granular particle to meet grain placement condition. The sphere diameters were chosen to be 4cm, 6 cm, 8 cm, 10 cm. The spheres were fallen in to the bed channel for critical condition and under critical condition of motion particle. Based on the experimental results, the Shields curve of particles Reynold number and dimensionless critical shear stress were plotted. The relationship between with drag force and the length movement of spheres were plotted. The pathways of the bed material Under the impact of spheres falling were analyzed.

경량골재 콘크리트의 수축 저감효과에 관한 적용성 연구 (A Study on the Applicability of Shrinkage Reduction Effect of Light-weight Aggregate Concrete)

  • Applying previous studies performed in the moisture transportation characteristics and shrinkage of lightweight concrete application of shrinkage reduction is to discuss. Applicability of shrinkage reduction effect of lightweight concrete applies for the analysis of PSC girder bridge beam placed on the construction site. Stress of the concrete bridge deck, rebar quantity is calculated by effective elastic modulus method and crack risk is assessed by moisture transport and differential shrinkage analysis. After approximately 10 days maximum tensile stress occurs 6MPa, similar to the case of normal concrete, a maximum tensile stress occurs 3MPa in lightweight concrete and comparing to normal concrete stress was reduced to approximately 50%. Normal and lightweight concrete crack index, respectively, is reduced 1.6 to 1.2, 1.2 to 0.9 in surface and boundary region. Therefore, reduction in shrinkage of concrete were able to confirm reduction of crack risk.

동지나해(東支那海)의 토사이동경로(土砂移動經路) (Sediment Transport Paths of the East China Sea)

  • 황해(黃海) 및 동지나해(東支那海)의 비선형조석(非線形潮汐)모델을 이용(利用)하여 대륙붕상(大陸棚上)의 평균(平均), 최대해저마찰응력(最大海底摩擦應力) 및 평균(平均), 최대토사이동(最大土砂移動)포텐셜을 구(求)하였다. 모델로부터 산정(算定)된 평균(平均), 최대해저마찰응력(最大海底摩擦應力)의 분포(分布)와 토사이동경로(土砂移動經路)와의 연관성(聯關性)에 대(對)한 초기추정(初期推定)이 이루어졌다.
