  • This paper evaluate reliability indices of a part of transmission network of KEPCO system. Quantitative evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important because successful operation of an electric power system in the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management. Monte Carlo methods are often preferable, when complex operating conditions are involved and/or the number of sever events is relatively large. Monte Carlo simulation methods and CMELDC(CoMposite power system Effective Load Duration Curve) were used in this paper.

Recently, control apparatus that use wire and RF between web server and robot for remote control are developed. But there is problem that must install internet line and communication distance. Transmission distance problem call solve when using the equipment of RF, but price of RF router is problem that is very high cost. In this paper, we developed remote control system using the CDMA cellular phone communication network that can control image transmission and image transmission apparatus to solve these problem. Developed system could solve defects of methods that use existent RF and internet. And could transmit the most suitable image and voice under limited condition include current communication network.

  • Earthquakes are natural disasters that cause serious social disruptions and economic losses. In particular, they have a significant impact on critical lifeline infrastructure such as urban water transmission networks. Therefore, it is important to predict network performance and provide an alternative that minimizes the damage by considering the factors affecting lifeline structures. This paper proposes a probabilistic reliability approach for post-hazard flow analysis of a water transmission network according to earthquake magnitude, pipeline deterioration, and interdependency between pumping plants and 154 kV substations. The model is composed of the following three phases: (1) generation of input ground motion considering spatial correlation, (2) updating the revised nodal demands, and (3) calculation of available nodal demands. Accordingly, a computer code was developed to perform the hydraulic analysis and numerical modelling of water facilities. For numerical simulation, an actual water transmission network was considered and the epicenter was determined from historical earthquake data. To evaluate the network performance, flow-based performance indicators such as system serviceability, nodal serviceability, and mean normal status rate were introduced. The results from the proposed approach quantitatively show that the water network is significantly affected by not only the magnitude of the earthquake but the interdependency and pipeline deterioration.

  • This paper presents the minimum-cost network selection scheme which determines the transmission instance in the multi-band maritime communication system, so that the shipment-related real-time information can be transmitted within the maximum allowed period. The transmission instances and the corresponding network selection process are modeled by a Markov Decision Process (MDP), for the channel model in the 2-state Markov chain, which can be solved by stochastic dynamic programming. It derives the minimum-cost network selection rule, which can reduce the network cost significantly as compared with the straight-forward scheme with a periodic transmission.

  • As the real-time multimedia applications through Internet increase, the bandwidth available to TCP connections is oppressed by the UDP traffic, result in the performance of overall system is extremely deteriorated. Therefore, developing a new transmission protocol is necessary. The TCP-friendly algorithm is an example meeting this necessity. The TCP-friendly (TFRC) is an UDP-based protocol that controls the transmission rate based on the available round transmission time (RTT) and the packet loss rate (PLR). In the data transmission processing, transmission rate is determined based on the conditions of the previous transmission period. If the one-step ahead predicted values of the control factors are available, the performance will be improved significantly. This paper proposes a prediction model of transmission rate control factors that will be used for the transmission rate control, which improves the performance of the networks. The model developed through this research is predicting one-step ahead variables of RTT and PLR. A multiplayer perceptron neural network is used as the prediction model and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is used for the training. The values of RTT and PLR were collected using TFRC protocol in the real system. The obtained prediction model is validated using new data set and the results show that the obtained model predicts the factors accurately.

  • This paper addresses the issue of throughput-delay of one-to-many wireless multi-hop flows based on random linear network coding (RLNC). Existing research results have been focusing on the single-hop model which is not suitable for wireless multi-hop networks. In addition, the conditions of related system model are too idealistic. To address these limitations, we herein investigate the performance of a wireless multi-hop network, focusing on the one-to-many flows. Firstly, a system model with multi-hop delay was constructed; secondly, the transmission schemes of system model were gradually improved in terms of practical conditions such as limited queue length and asynchronous forwarding way; thirdly, the mean delay and the mean throughput were quantified in terms of coding window size K and number of destination nodes N for the wireless multi-hop transmission. Our findings show a clear relationship between the multi-hop transmission performance and the network coding parameters. This study results will contribute significantly to the evaluation and the optimization of network coding method.

  • This paper investigates the network throughput of PLC (Power Line Communication) system in the in-building network. The OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation format and adaptive bit loading algorithm is used to minimize the effect of signal loss and noise on transmission performance in the power line channel characterized by frequency selective fading. The network throughput of the PLC system which consists of gateway and CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) PLC modem in the in-building network is measured by network performance measurement tool, iperf and analyzed according to the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) window size.

  • One of major services for the next generation mobile satellite system will be multimedia broadcasting and multi-casting service(MBMS). An integrated satellite and terrestrial network can be considered to provide those services seamlessly and cooperatively. This paper presents efficient cooperative transmission architectures for integrated satellite and terrestrial network. First, an integrated satellite and terrestrial system architectures is introduced, and several cooperative transmission architectures for the integrated system are derived. Extensive performance simulation results reveal that the proposed architectures can improve the system performance and make an efficient transmission.

  • Recently Many technologies of the P.L.N (Power Line Network) are introduced for an efficient communication. P.L.N transmits information using power line channel. A medical information transmission system is proposed in this paper for the effective transmission. The Power Line Networks have an advantage in low cost because it uses existent power line. It can be easily applied anywhere that a power line socket is available. But the power line channel is very noisy, because many electronic devices in generate electronic noise in modulated signals. This problem should be considered carefully in the design of medical information transmission system using P.L.N. The proposed system can be applied...I propose a telemedicine system using the power line network.

  • This paper presents a probabilistic approach of reliability evaluation and economic assessment for solving transmission network expansion planning problems. Three methods are proposed for TNEP, which are reorganizing the existing power system focused on the buses of interest, selecting candidates using modified system operating state method with healthy, marginal and at-risk states, and finally choosing the optimal alternative using cost-optimization method. TNEP candidates can be selected based on the state reliability such as sufficient and insufficient indices, as proposed in this paper. The process of economic assessment involves the costs of construction, maintenance and operation, congestion, and outage. The case studies are carried out with modified IEEE-24 bus system and Jeju island power system expansion plan in Korea, to verify the proposed methodology.
