In a large power transformer, an insulating oil is forced to circulate for cooling the heat generated by the losses within the windings and core. When oil flows and rubs against various materials, including insulating paper and steel, electrostatic charges are separated at the interface of the oil and the solid material. This paper considers the polarity and the streaming electrification of the various materials which are used in transformer. As a result of this study, it is confirmed that the leakage current on the solid material, such as paper, is charged negative. On the other hand, the solid material, such as steel, is positively charged.
This paper describes the numerical simulations in the cooling of the radiator in a distribution transformer. The aim of this work is the cooling optimization of the transformer by CFD simulations. A clear understanding of the cooling pattern in a radiator which is a main heat remover in the power transformer is essential for optimizing the radiator design increasing the thermal efficiency. In this paper we study the heat transfer and fluid flow in a 3-phase 400kVA transformer. The plate radiators of this transformer become wrinkled (corrugated radiator) and there are filled with transformer oil. The oil is circulated due to the natural convection driven by buoyancy effects through radiators so that the ultimate cooling medium is the surrounding air. In the design of transformers, it is of interest to minimize the cost and size of radiators. The obtained results show the temperature and flow distributions and the possibility to optimize the transformer with 3-dimensional CFD models using FLUENT.
This paper describes the sensitivity enhancement in measurement of the hydrogen gas dissolved in oil using gas collection time. On-line gas measurement is a useful for continuous monitoring of power transformer. Recently many studies on hydrogen gas measurement, due to their simplicity and low price, have been done for transformer monitoring. In measurement of the hydrogen gas in oil, the suitable sensitivity and resolution in the desired ranges of the gas concentrations are needed for the reliable monitoring of power transformers. In this study, the sensor output trends were analyzed with the hydrogen gas collection time which means the time to collect the hydrogen gas before reaction of hydrogen gas sensor. It is indicated that the sensor outputs were increased with the increase of hydrogen gas collection times at the same hydrogen gas concentrations.
This paper reported the experimental result of dielectric properties of Refined, Bleached and Deodorized Palm Oil (RBDPO) combined with 0-50% of Refined, Bleached and Deodorized Soybean Oil (RBDSO). The dielectric strength and relative permittivity of RBDPO/RBDSO was higher compared to mineral oil at all ranges of ratios and temperatures which indicated a positive sign for its possible use as insulating liquid in a transformer. All ratios of the RBDPO/RBDSO mixture also demonstrated lower dissipation factor compared to mineral oil at 40℃, 70℃ and 90℃. Apart from that, the kinematic viscosity for the oil mixtures shown exceeded the IEC 60296 as well as the mineral oil results. 70%RBDPO/30%RBDSO mixture ratio was chosen as the best mixing percentage after comparison was made with the mineral oil and IEC 60296 standard where the mixture accumulated the most satisfactory of dielectric properties hence making it as the potential candidate for palm and soybean-based transformer oil.
Moisture contents measurement is frequently used as one of parameters for degradation diagnosis of transformer insulation. In general Karl-Fisher method is mainly used for moisture contents till now. But this method is inconvenient because of dismounting transformer for sampling oil or paper, and also partial sampling. At latest Recovery Voltage Method(RVM) is noticed for complement of this method. RVM can directly estimate moisture contents of transformer insulations in field without dismounting transformer. In this paper the accelerated aging process of oil-paper samples have been investigated at a temperature up to 140$^{\circ}C$ for 500 hours. The oil-paper insulation samples have been measured at intervals of 100 hours. Next to, we have estimated moisture contents using both Karl-Fisher Titration Method and RVM. And we have compared with Karl-Fisher Titration Method and RVM for estimating moisture contents. At last we have verified reliability of RVM which is new measurement method.
In this paper, The method of a temperature rasing forecast is suggested and simulated. The data used in this simulations exists in the KD Power and it was obtain by real transformer. The method of temperature forecast is based on a top oil temperature rising modeling which is proposed by the IEEE journal. We propose modifications of a modeling that accurately predicts a future transformer temperature. This Method is verified by simulations.
The primary insulation system used in an oil-filled transformer is kraft paper, wood, porcelain and oil. Modern transformers use paper that is chemically treated to improve its tensile strength properties and resistance to aging caused by immersion in oil. But these insulation papers are mainly aged to thermal stress. Over the course of the insulation paper and oil's life it is exposed to high temperatures, oxygen and water. Its interaction with the steel of the tank and core plus the copper and aluminium of the windings will eventually cause the chemical properties of the oil to decay. High temperature have an effect on mechanical strength of cellulous paper using the layer insulation. We made two aging cell in which thermal aging tests of insulation papers and mineral oil are conducted. It is measured dielectric strength, number of acid, moisture, etc. of insulation paper and oil aged in the aging cells.
The main research content of this paper is to evaluate the structural integrity and the cooling performance of 4250 kVA power transformer with ONAN(Oil Natural and Air Natural) mode. The dynamic analysis is used to verify the structural safety of the transformer by seismic loading. The transformer structure is simplified and NX software is used to build a three-dimensional model, and ANSYS commercial software is used to calculate the stress and deformation by applying corresponding load. The analysis result was evaluated whether it satisfies the design requirements according to the IEEE Std 693 standard. In terms of thermal analysis to evaluate the cooling performance, the thermal physical model is used to calculate the heat exchange between the radiator and the tank in the steady state, and the result is input into the Fluent software to calculate the internal temperature field of the transformer tank, which reduces the calculation cost of thermal fluid. Comparing the simulated hot spot temperature and top oil temperature of the transformer with the calculation results of the IEC60076 classic model, it is found that the error is only 1.9%.
In oil-filled equipment such as transformers, partial discharge or local overheating will precede a final shutdown. Accompanied with such problems is a decomposition of insulating material into gases, which are dissolved into the transformer oil. The gases dissolved in oil can be separated with some membranes based on the differences in permeability of membranes to different gases. This paper discuss the permeability characteristics of several membranes for separation hydrogen gas in oil. With result of this paper, it may become possible to detect fault-related gases from transformer oil and predict incipient failures in the future.
The transformer is major equipment in power receiving and substation facilities. Necessary conditions required for the transformer are compactness, lightness, high reliability, economic advantages, and easy maintenance. The pole-mount transformer installed in distribution system is acting direct role in supply of electric power and it is electric power device should drive for long term. Most of modem transformer are oil-filled transformer and accident is happening considerable. The mold transformers have been widely used in underground substations in large building and have some advantages in comparison to oil-transformer, that is low fire risk, excellent environmental compatibility, compact size and high reliability. In addition, the application of mold transformer for outdoor is possible due to development of epoxy resin. The mold transformer generally has cooling duct between low voltage coil and high voltage coil. A mold transformer made by one body molding method has been developed for small size and low loss. One body molding transformer needs some cooling method because heat radiation between each winding is difficult. In this paper, The thermal analysis of pole mount mold transformer with one body molding by duct condition is investigated and the test result of temperature rise is compared with simulation data.
