For navigation of a mobile robot, it is one of the essential tasks to find out its current position. Dead reckonining is the most frequently used method to estimate its position. Hpwever conventional dead reckoner is prone to give us false information on the robot position especially when the wheels are slipping. This paper proposes an improved dead reckoning scheme using neural networks. The network detects the instance of wheel slopping and estimates the linear velocity of the wheel; thus it calculates current position and heading angle of a mobile robot. The structure and variables of the nerual network are chosen in consideration of slip motion characteristics. A series of experiments are performed to train the networks and to investigate the performance of the improved dead reckoning system.

We reconstruct the underlying dark matter (DM) density distribution of the local universe within 20Mpc/h cubic box by using the galaxy position and peculiar velocity. About 1,000 subboxes in the Illustris-TNG cosmological simulation are used to train the relation between DM density distribution and galaxy properties by using UNet-like convolutional neural network (CNN). The estimated DM density distributions have a good agreement with their truth values in terms of pixel-to-pixel correlation, the probability distribution of DM density, and matter power spectrum. We apply the trained CNN architecture to the galaxy properties from the Cosmicflows-3 catalogue to reconstruct the DM density distribution of the local universe. The reconstructed DM density distribution can be used to understand the evolution and fate of our local environment.
After installation of platform screen door (PSD) in subway stations, particulate matters (PMs), which are originally ventilated through the platform, are accumulated inside the tunnel of the subway system. It deteriorates an air quality inside the tunnel. To ventilate the accumulated PMs inside the tunnel, the natural ventilator which are located inside the tunnel (namely, tunnel ventilation system) are used as only one circulation system. In addition, the installation of PSD can affect to the aerodynamic variations inside the tunnel, since the PSD system was not considered factor when the tunnel ventilation system was designed. However, the researches about the tunnel ventilation system have not been adequate. Therefore, this study is carried out with two objectives: 1) to measure the velocity of air current by the train-induced wind, when the train passes through the tunnel, and 2) to investigate the typical patterns of air current by quantitatively evaluating the characteristics of inflow/outflow of air current which passes through the natural ventilation system. This study can suggest the basic standard to newly design the tunnel of the subway system as well as the ventilation system.
Track irregularities is one of the key factors influencing the running behavior of trains. In order to ensure safety and ride comfort of train, the criteria for track irregularities should be adequately established regarding vehicle velocity, vehicle characteristics, characteristics of the track recording car, and measurement interval. Also, track maintenance should be carried out thoroughly according to the criteria for managing track irregularities. Numerical analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of track alignment on the running behavior of Korean high speed train(KTX). Various wavelengths and amplitudes of lateral alignment were considered as parameters for this study using the Vampire program, a vehicle dynamics modeling package in railway environment. Derailment, lateral load, bogie acceleration and body acceleration of numerical analysis results due to alignment were investigated. Finally, the influence of the alignment on safety and ride comfort for the KTX was evaluated. This study indicates that alignment irregularities have significant impacts on running safety, and that the criteria used to manage alignment irregularities should be restrictive to ensure the running safety of the KTX.
About 91.1% of Railway-Highway Crossings (RHC) in Korea use a Constant Distance Warning System(CDWS), while about 8.9% use a Constant Warning Time System(CWTS). The CDWS does not recognize speed differences of approaching trains and provides only waiting times to vehicles and pedestrians based on the highest speed of approaching trains. Under the CDWS, therefore, low speed trains provide unnecessary waiting times at crossings which often generates complains to vehicle drivers and pedestrians and may cause wrong decisions to pass the crossings. The objective of this research is to improve the safety of the RHC by developing accurate a CWTS. In this research a train speed and location detection system was developed with ultra sonic detectors. Locations of the detectors was decided based on the highest speed and the minimum warning time of Saemaul of 160 km/h. To validate the algorithms of the newly developed systems the lab tests were conducted. The results show that the train detection system provides accurate locations of trains and the maximum error between real speeds of trains and those of the system was 0.07m/s.

In this paper, we suggest how to determine the parachute deploy position for accurate landing of a UAV at a desired position. The 9-DOF dynamic modeling of UAV-parachute system is required to construct the proposed algorithm based on neural network nonlinear function approximation technique. The input and output data sets to train the neural network are obtained from simulation results using UAV-parachute 9-DOF model. The input data consist of the deploy position, UAV's velocity, and wind velocity. The output data consist of the cross range and down range of landing positions. So we predict the relative landing position from the current UAV position. The deploy position is then determined through distance compensations for the relative landing positions from the desired landing position. The deploy position is consistently calculated and updated.

The efficiency of railway track cleaning vehicle for eliminating fine particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in a subway tunnel depends strongly on the structure of the air blowing and suction system installed under the train. To increase the efficiency of underbody suction system, this paper proposes a novel method to use the Coanda effect for the air blower and dust suction module. In particular, through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, the flow control device induced by the Coanda effect enables an increase in the overall flow velocity and to stabilize the flow distribution of the suction module at a control angle of $90^{\circ}$. In addition, the flow velocity drop at the edge of the air knife-type blower can be improved by placing small inserts at the edge of the blower. Those 4 modular designs of the dust suction system can help remove the dust accumulated on the track and tunnel by optimizing the blowing and suction flows.
This study is to present more effective starting skills through analysis of kinematic characteristics of starting motions in 300m Time Trials of Inline Skating. To achieve this goal, 6 athletes, 3 in the national team and 3 in business teams were chosen and their starting motions were examined with three-dimensional image analyses. The results of analyses in regard of positions and speed of the bodily center and angles, angular velocity, and linear velocity of articulations of lower limbs by sections of starting motions are as follows: In case of the central position, though it is effective to reduce the air resistance by lowering the upper part of the body maximumly, it is reasonable to accelerate by raising the upper part of the body to some degree for the running posture at the lower speed in the starting section. In the starting section, it is efficient to minimize the period of time in touching the ground. for this, it is necessary to train for taking motions without slippage while touching the ground. While 3 athletes in business teams kicked the ground as running right after the starting, the others in the national team slid on the ground. As the number of steps increased, the movable speed changed quickly. Thus the movable speed of athletes in the national team indicated big differences in two to three steps. If these factors are well supported, the push-away starting method might be better than the running starting method in terms of improvement of records.
The flow of an incompressible Ellis fluid in an inclined asymmetric channel, driven by peristaltic waves was studied under low Reynolds number and long wavelength assumptions. The wave on each side of the channel are assumed to be an infinite train of sinusoidal waves, both having the same constant wave speed and wavelength however, they vary in wave amplitude, channel half width and phase angle. We derived expressions for the axial and transverse velocities, volume flow rate, pressure rise per unit wavelength and streamlines. The effects of varying the wave amplitudes, the phase angle, the channel width, the angle of inclination of the channel as well as the fluid parameters on the flow were analyzed. Trapping conditions were determined and the presence of reflux highlighted using the streamlines for the necessary channel and fluid conditions. By varying the fluid parameters, changes in the fluid that deviated from the Newtonian case resulted in a reduction in the axial velocity in the neighborhood of the center of the channel and a simultaneous increase in the velocity at the periphery of the channel. A nonlinear relation was observed with the pressure rise and the volume flow rate. This nonlinear relation is more pronounced with an increase in the absolute value of the volume flow rate. For Newtonian fluids a linear relation exists between these two variables. The fluid parameters had little effects on the streamlines. However, variations of the wave amplitudes, volume flow, channel width and phase angle had greater effects on the streamlines and hence the trapped region.
High-speed railway system is exposed to severe aerodynamic problems and has various requirements both on design and operation; 80% of running resistance is composed of aerodynamic drag, the cross-sectional area and portal shape of tunnel should be designed under aerodynamic consideration, and natural wind velocity should always be monitored to prevent the overturning of train by crosswinds. In addition, most of the aerodynamic problems are proportional to the running speed or square of the running speed. Thus, when the running speed of a high-speed railway system either on operation or under construction is to be increased, the aerodynamic problems should be assessed in advance and the countermeasures should be prepared to alleviate the aerodynamic problems to meet certain requirements. In this study, aerodynamic problems that could occur at speed up of high-speed line have been investigated and aerodynamic requirements to meet the increased operational speed have been studied referring the international and domestic rules, guidance, and recommendations.
