Numerical study of the Crosswind Safety on Korean Tilting Train Express (수치 해석 방법을 애용한 한국형 틸팅 차량의 측풍 안전성 고찰)

  • Recently, the weight of train is decreased by using the light material for improvement in energy efficiency. And the length of whole train is more increased for mass transportation of passengers and cargo. However, decrease of the weight and increase of the length of train can cause the train to be overturned or derailed by strong crosswind. In case of Korean Tilting Train eXpress (TTX), the situation can be more severe. TTX will be developed for a quasi-high speed train at 200km/h speed rate and operated on the existing tracks. Moreover, the weight of TTX will be much less than that of conventional train. It is supposed that TTX will be very sensitive to crosswind. In this paper, numerical analysis is used to investigate aerodynamic characteristics around TTX and obtain the induced lateral force by crosswind. After calculating derailment coefficient and overturning coefficient using numerical results, the crosswind safety of TTX is judged. This paper will be good data for judging crosswind safety of TTX.

  • Although the effectiveness of an express train's service is measured in "Total System Time or Cost" units, many cases had used indirect method what based on the distintion by number of passengers in a station or experiential knowledgements. These methods are not guarantee itself as an optimal strategy. Focusing "Total System Time or Cost" directly, this paper investigates the express train service's stop scheduling based on each OD-volume and trip time which mainly affect system time and cost. To do this, we built an IP model which has a binary set presenting express train's stop scheduling as decision variable and suggest a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to find heuristic optimal solution.

  • This research is a qualitative based study by using data gleaned from documentary analysis and in-depth interviews of 10 potential stakeholders were involved in the proposed high-speed train project in Thailand. Many perspectives from key informants revealed that this project would bring Thailand sustainable development in the future due to the fact that it is supposed to be an environmentally friendly mode of transportation and timesaving for passengers. Key informants who tend to have negative opinions towards the project feel apprehension due to the huge monetary investment during a time of monetary crisis. However, there was one complaint that the high-speed train is harmful to the environment surrounding the proposed area of this project. Several key informants agreed that ticket fares must be in between the cost of a bus ticket and airfare.

Sound Quality Characteristics for Interior Noise of High Speed Train (음질평가를 통한 고속철도 실내소음의 객관적.주관적 특성 분석)

  • In Korea, the high-speed train is one of the most important mass transportation. Due to its fast speed, the interior noise level is high and it is one of major reason for passenger complaints. In this study, the response of passengers to interior noise was evaluated using sound quality parameters. The effects of various parameters, such as train types, travel speed, rail road, on the calculated sound quality were investigated. The characteristics of interior noise were identified. The obtained results were compared to auditory experimental data. For precise comparison of noises of similar loudness but with different characteristics, paired comparison method was used. From the comparison, important parameters that have influence on the annoyance and loudness of the noise were determined.

  • Passengers in automobile or train are exposed to a worse noise environment when they are in the tunnel than in the open field. This is due to a relatively higher space density of sound energy by multiple reflection phenomenon of noise generated by operation of transportaton vehicles from tunnel wall compared to open field. In this study, noise characteristics of subway train running through a tunnel were investigated at straight/cruved track and tunnel type(semi circula/box). (omitted)

  • Nowadays, high speed train has settled down as a fast and convenient environment-friendly transportation and it's need is gradually increasing. However increased train speed leads to increased aerodynamic noise, which causes critically affects comfortability of passengers. Especially, the pantograph of high speed train is protruded out of train body, which is the main factor for increased aerodynamic noise. In this research, to reduce aerodynamic noise pantograph, panhead's shape changed to aerodynamical shape. aerodynamic noise of pantograph is predicted by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) and FW-H (Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings) equation. Also, the sound pressure level of aerodynamic noise of base and modified models are predicted. And the reduction effects of the sound pressure level is analyzed.

A Study on the Service Quality of Korea Train Express (고속철도 서비스품질에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the dimensions of service quality of Korea Train Express(KTX) and to compare the service quality of KTX with that of general train. The researcher consisted of initial 32 items representing eight-dimension and analyzed the final quality dimensions of KTX. The collected data of passenger of 226 was analyzed by statistical procedures such as the iterative sequence of computing Cronbach's a, corrected item-to total correlations, and factor analyses. Through the repeated statistical process to puritY the items, a final set of 26 items representing six district dimensions; tangibles, timely responsiveness, empathy, comfort, information access and safety. The Results of independent samples t-test showed that the mean scores of all the service quality dimensions of KTX except for comfort were higher than those of general train. This finding will provide the more appropriate instrument to measure the KTX service quality as well as to improve the passengers' perception of the service quality.

Train-Fleet Assignment based on Public Interests (공공성을 고려한 열차용량 할당)

  • In this paper, we consider the train-fleet assignment problem to determine fleet assignment and seat allocation synchronously. An integer programming model of the problem and a decomposition-based solution approach are developed to handle short-term period deterministic orgin-destination demands. The primary objective used in the developed model is to maximize the total number of passengers transported during peak load periods, such as Chuseok national holiday period. Thus, in developing the model we choose to profit-pursuing system. We also show how the proposed model can be readily modified to incorporate profit-maximization. Using the empirical data sets provided by a Korean railroad company, we have tested the proposed solution approach and carried out various comparison analyses by varying traffic demand patterns and train schedules. The computational experiments reveal that the proposed solutions approach produces high quality solutions in reasonable computation time.

  • At present, communication network for subway is making use of the train radio system for main network and normally established a base station every three subway station. It is talk over the telephone between a locomotive and the traffic control for careful train service. Besides, mobile telephone equipment is using for service improve and convenience to passengers such as 011, 016, 017, 019 and what not. However, the train radio system has been occurring a various problems when a state of emergency because it is able to compose only one communication route each base station zone. We could have improving like this problems through induce the TRS(Trunked Radio System), though because have been able to compose multilateral communication route in case of linking with LCX(Leaked Coaxial) cable which is established. Therefore, we could be able to a fitting meet the emergency as train firing etc.. and efficient use of limited frequency resources.

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant, so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper show that results of normal capacity calculations of the electrical equipments such as Main transformer, PWM converter, VVVF inverter, traction motor in TTX(tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 180 km/h
