Risk Assessment of Submerged Floating Tunnels based on Fuzzy AHP (퍼지 AHP를 이용한 수중터널의 재해위험도 분석)

  • In the construction and operation of large marine structure, hazard risk analysis is one of important factors. Therefore, this paper investigates the hazard risk indexes and evaluates the risk level in the construction and operation of SFT on the basis of expert survey and Fuzzy analytic hierarchy process. Hazard risk is divided into natural hazard risk (earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, and ice collision) and human factor hazard risk (fire, explosion, traffic accident, ship or submarine collision). Also, the influence of hazard risk indexes on SFT was evaluated in tunnel tube, supporting system, ventilation tower, foundation, and connection part. As the hazard risk level of SFT is compared with those of bridge, underwater tunnel, and immersed tunnel, the intrinsic risk level of SFT was evaluated. Tsunami and earthquake had higher risk level in natural hazard risk, and the risk levels of fire and explosion were higher in human factor hazard risk. Hazard risk level of SFT was 1.4 times higher than immersed tunnel, and 3.2 times higher than bridge.

A Study on State Dependent RED and Dynamic Scheduling Scheme for Real-time Internet Service (실시간 인터넷 서비스를 위한 상태 의존 RED 및 동적 스케줄링 기법에 관한 연구)

  • To satisfy the requirements of the real-time Internet services, queue management and scheduling schemes should be enhanced to accommodate the delay and jitter characteristic of them. Although the existing queue management schemes can address the congestion problems of TCP flows, they have some problems in supporting real-time services. That is, they show performance degradation when burst traffics are continuously going into the system after the queue is occupied at a predefined threshold level. In addition, under the congestion state, they show large jitter, which is not a desirable phenomenon for real-time transmissions. To resolve these problems, we propose a SDRED (State Dependent Random Early Detection) and dynamic scheduling scheme that can improve delay and jitter performances by adjusting RED parameters such as ma $x_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ according to the queue status. The SDRED is designed to adapt to the current traffic situation by adjusting the max,$_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ to four different levels. From the simulation results, we show that the SDRED decreases packet delays in a queue and has more stable jitter characteristics than the existing RED, BLUE, ARED and DSRED schemes.mes.mes.

Satellite Mobility Pattern Scheme for Centrical and Seamless Handover Management in LEO Satellite Networks

  • Since low earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations have important advantages over geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO) systems such as low propagation delay, low power requirements, and more efficient spectrum allocation due to frequency reuse between satellites and spotbeams, they are considered to be used to complement the existing terrestrial fixed and wireless networks in the evolving global mobile network. However, one of the major problems with LEO satellites is their higher speed relative to the terrestrial mobile terminals, which move at lower speeds but at more random directions. Therefore, handover management in LEO satellite networks becomes a very challenging task for supporting global mobile communication. Efficient and accurate methods are needed for LEO satellite handovers between the moving footprints. In this paper, we propose a new seamless handover management scheme for LEO satellites (SeaHO-LEO), which utilizes the handover management schemes aiming at decreasing latency, data loss, and handover blocking probability. We also present another interesting handover management model called satellite mobility pattern based handover management in LEO satellites (PatHO-LEO) which takes mobility pattern of both satellites and mobile terminals into account to minimize the handover messaging traffic. This is achieved by the newly introduced billboard manager which is used for location updates of mobile users and satellites. The billboard manager makes the proposed handover model much more flexible and easier than the current solutions, since it is a central server and supports the management of the whole system. To show the performance of the proposed algorithms, we run an extensive set of simulations both for the proposed algorithms and well known handover management methods as a baseline model. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms are very promising for seamless handover in LEO satellites.

  • Multiple wireless devices are being widely deployed in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) services on the road to establish end-to-end connection between vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) networks. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) play an important role in supporting V2V and V2I communications (also called V2X communications) in a variety of urban environments with distinct topological characteristics. In fact, obstacles such as big buildings, moving vehicles, trees, advertisement boards, traffic lights, etc. may block the radio signals in V2X communications. Their impact has been neglected in VANET research. In this paper, we present a realistic and efficient radio propagation model to handle different sizes of static and moving obstacles for V2X communications. In the proposed model, buildings and large moving vehicles are modeled as static and moving obstacles, and taken into account their impact on the packet reception rate, Line-of-sight (LOS) obstruction, and received signal power. We use unsymmetrical city map which has many dead-end roads and open faces. Each dead-end road and open faces are joined to the nearest edge making a polygon to model realistic obstacles. The simulation results of proposed model demonstrates better performance compared to some existing models, that shows proposed model can reflect more realistic simulation environments.

Hibernation Structure Design of Wireless USB over IEEE 802.15.6 Hierarchical MAC Protocol (WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 통합 MAC 프로토콜의 Hibernation 구조 설계)

  • Wearable computer systems can use the wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) that refers to USB technology that is merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC technical specifications. In this paper, we focus on an integrated system of the wireless USB over the IEEE 802.15.6 wireless body area networks (WBAN) for wireless wearable computer systems supporting U-health services. And a communication structure that performs the hibernation for low power consumption is proposed for WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 hierarchical protocol. In the proposed hibernation mechanisms, WUSB communications are permitted at each m-periodic inactive periods of WBAN superframes by using the WBAN information of Wakeup Period and Wakeup Phase message fields. In our performance evaluations, performances according to amount of WUSB traffic and Wakeup Periods are analyzed respectively to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed hibernation structure in WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6.

A Study on Packet Scheduling for LTE Multimedia Data (LTE 멀티미디어 데이터를 위한 패킷 스케쥴링 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is already able to provide a background of variety services for mobile users with multimedia services such as audio, video, and data. In fact, the High Speed Packet Access plus (HSPA+) solution can greatly enhance bit rates on down-link. However, the supporting for multimedia applications with different QoS (Quality of Service) requirements is not devised yet. Hence, in this paper we propose an effective packet scheduling algorithm based on Proportional Fairness (PF) scheduling algorithms for the LTE. In this proposed packet scheduling scheme, we optimized instantaneous user data rates and the traffic class weight which prioritize user's packets. Finally, we evaluated and showed the performance of the proposed scheduling algorithm through simulations of multimedia traffics being transmitted to users over LTE links in a multi-cell environment.

  • The explosion of the Internet has brought an acute need for efficient operation, which becomes to develop several technologies based on optical networks. By matching merging technology using wavelength multiplexing, an efficient administration with limited wavelength can provide scalability of network. The merging in optical layer has limitation of devices since the merging can not be performed in this layer. Hence the merging must be implemented in electronic layer. When the merging is implemented, the delay time would be increased in OXC (Optical Cross Connection), but the improvement of throughput rate will be expected in the process of explosive traffic due to reduction of optical channel supporting large bandwidth. In this thesis, we proposed an OXC of dual module having a merging function. We considered the optimum merging point with the largest in system performance and confirmed results using the simulation.

  • In this paper, we design a transmission / receiver structure to provide additional data service based on Mobile MMT in hybrid network environment. Mobile MMT is an extended standard of MMT, the next generation multimedia transmission protocol. MMT defines technologies for efficiently transmitting multimedia and supporting various types of data transmission and bidirectional services over heterogeneous networks based on IP. The Mobile MMT further defines the extended functions to provide functions specific to the mobile network based on the existing MMT technology. In this paper, we design and propose a additional data service scenario and additional data transmission / receiver structure that can receive additional data related to contents delivered through broadcasting network and additional data such as traffic, weather, traveler information related to user information.

  • With the development of the internet technology, network application services based on a large number of network nodes have been focused. However, such application services require much larger network size and traffic than current network. In order to develop them, efficient solutions as well as a simple improvement of network infra processing time are required. In this paper, to contribute a improvement of network computing technology, we design and implement the agent platform software based on the agent technology that performs works independently and asynchronously on a network and platform. The proposed agent platform software supports the scalability to accommodate the number of network hosts with rapid growth, the adaptability on a variable environments, and the availability for a fault-tolerance.

A Study on DDS (Data Distribution Service) Application for Real-time Monitoring and Control in Operation Console of the Railway Safety Control Platform (철도 안전관제 통합콘솔에서의 실시간 감시 및 통제를 위한 DDS 적용방안 연구)

  • Recently, a safety control platform to monitor the safety of train operation in real time and prevent accidents and risks through control is under study. In the initial design, DDS communication method supporting distributed network is adopted for real-time processing of large amount of data according to the integration of existing distributed safety data. However, communication between server and console inside the safety control platform is applied to existing TCP socket communication. In the case of TCP socket communication, it is possible to process data for a small system of a safety control test bed by one-to-one communication. However, if the data is expanded all over the country in the future, it becomes difficult to cope with a case where communication traffic occurs due to vast amount of data. In this paper, we propose DDS communication method to support distributed network between server and console of security control platform, and demonstrate TCP socket and DDS method, and compare throughput and speed. As a result, we have found that the scalability and flexibility are improved in case of applying DDS communication to future systems.
