This study is performed to establish the basis of the development of unique tropical botanical garden that will be connected with the identity of the local inheritance resources, 'Silla'. The glasshouse is the traditional 'Silla; housing and the landscape facilities are tried to imagine 'Silla' kingdom. Combination of the plant exhibition and the cultural inheritance resources can create their own unique theme. The garden divided into five spaces by life cycles of plants and the purpose of appreciation, the palm garden, ornamental foliage garden, flower garden, water lily garden, and tropical fruits garden. The appropriate flowers and trees are selected by their flowering time and the purpose of enjoyment. Especially, Ficus religiosa is the symbol plant of buddhism which is the state religion of 'Silla'.
This study was to analyze the philological character of Huangdizhaijing(黃帝宅經). Huangdizhaijing is a first stage scriptures of YangzhaiFengshui(陽宅風水) which is the firstly mentioned book in Sikuquanshu(四庫全書). Huangdizhaijing is an obligatory book to read to understand the palace of ancient dynasty as well as general housing of people. Huangdizhaijing measured housing conditions divided into Yangzhai(陽宅) and Yinzhai(陰宅). The contents succeeded traditional Yangzhaiguan(陽宅觀) which values direction(方向) and Jiri(吉日). Thatis, classifying Yangzhai into 24 directions based on Qi of YinYang(陰陽之氣) theory, general contents of Huangdizhaijing explains regulatory rules and propitious day in accordance with the Yangzhai mathematical principles and archaeology through Jixiongshenshalun(吉凶神煞論). Huangdizhaijing includes the kernel of understanding the chinese architect system and housing culture because it describes close reciprocal influences between man and house. It seems that the author of Huangdizhaijing is not the emperor but he was represented by descendants who systemized the idea of Huangdizhaijing in Yangzhai shu(陽宅書). Being there many of documents presented by emperor like Huangdineijing(黃帝內徑), It is counted that the reason of the representing emperor is to show off its origin has long and authoritative history. It seems that the preserved period of writing Huangdizhaijing is Tang(唐) dynasty, but counting that various Yangzhaishu prevailed, Huangdizhaijing's contents has much in common with Dunhuangben(敦煌本), and it valued Menfazhidu(門閥制度) of Weijinnanbeichao(魏晉南北朝) dynasty, the many of the contents of Huangdizhaijing should be formed before Tang dynasty. The exiting editions of Huangdizhaijing could be divided into generally 8 kinds:(1) Zhengtongdaocangben(正統道藏本) (2)Yimenguangduben(夷門廣牘本) (3)Jindaimishuben(津逮秘書本) (4)Shuofuben(說?本) (5)Gujintushujichengben(古今圖書集成本) (6) Sikuquanshuben(四庫全書本) (7)Xuejintaoyuanben(學津討原本) (8)Dunhuangben(敦煌本).
The object of this study is upper class house in Yang-dong village with the purpose of spatial-sociological study of traditional Korean architecture. Space is the basic element of architecture and is fundamental for understanding architecture. Space, however, can be better understood through its social context rather than through its physical or psychological attributes. Space exists in a society, providing the physical environment which frames it Social environment affects the thoght of people who are members of that society. Space is built by the people in a society and is affected by their thought. Spatial-sociological study can explain a mutual relation between people and space through context. It defines characteristics of space based on mutual relations which exist among the people, the culture of society and the environment of society but also having a sociological component, study of architectural space should consider the social context. Since architectural space is built on social and cultural bases, to understand it requires various methods of study Spatial-sociological analysis is one alternative. Using space syntax, this study analyzes houses in Yang-dong village by not only defining attributes of individual houses, but also common attributes of houses in the village. Based on common attributes of houses in the village, the attributes of Yang-dong village houses can be re-defined within the social context. the results from a spatial-sociological analysis of upper class housing of the Yang-dong village are as follows; (1) Related to confucian ideas in Chosun Dynasty : A house has a dualistic center organized with 'an-chae' and 'sarang-chae'. 'an-chae' space is organized unsociably from outside. (2) Related to various space pattern of Yang-dong village House in the Chosun Dynasty period :As variations in the types of space pattern, the village house exhibit different attributes.
Folk villages have higher historic and cultural values than other villages and contain considerably many traditional elements today. In Korea, there are seven folk villages that are under the protection of the Cultural Properties Protection Act. Unlike other kinds of tangible cultural assets individually appointed according to the act, those folk villages are protected by the act in entirety including the houses and auxiliary structures inhabited and used by the villagers. Since the act covers the entire villages, the residents are not allowed to repair or renovate their structures and accordingly suffer from huge limitations in everyday life with housing life under the biggest restrictions. Being appointed as a folk village is positive from the perspective of preserving the village. However, it is negative to the villagers because of the limitations to their housing lives. While common people lead a convenient life by the introduction of high technologies in modern society, they do not get to benefit from such technologies for the cause of preserving the traditional culture. Upon the appointment, they are subject to all sorts of building regulations and under huge direct and indirect influences of those regulations across many different aspects of life including housing life. Thus the residents of folk villages do have many complaints about the act. It is only natural that there occur conflicts between the state, which tries to preserve the traditional culture according to the act, and the residents, who pursue convenience in life. At the same time, it is natural too that the residents have the desire to pursue convenience in daily life. Thus they renovate their houses illegally. The government agencies are aware of that, however, it is not right for them to enforce the act and restrict their daily lives. Their tacit approval of such illegal renovations is the product of compromises between the residents' right to their private property and the state's policies of cultural asset protection. The residents try to renovate their houses within the limit that will not call for legal restrictions from the government agencies. The government allows for renovations as long as they are within the minimum limit. It is the result of efforts for the state and the residents to stitch up and compromise their own complaints.
The purpose of this study is to provide information about domestic living of Korean immigrants in Australia and Canada who have the same cultural background for comparative study. For this, usage of domestic space and living style in housing of 52 Korean households in Melbourne of Australia and 32 Korean households in the region of Waterloo of Canada were analyzed. Ethnographic research with questionnaire were used. Results of the research were as follows. 1. Korean immigrants in each countries were living in houses which was built by company of Australia and Canada. 44.2% of Korean immigrants in Australia were using L+D K and 53.1% of Korean immigrants in Canada were using L D K. 2. Laundry was indispensable for Korean immigrants in both countries and they all wanted to use the laundry as a utility room which could dry, ironing and so on. 3. Drain hole on the floor of the bathroom was not indispensable for most Korean immigrants in both countries for hygienic reason. 4. Korean immigrants in both countries were ironing in master bedroom and they all wanted to separate it from there through renovation and extension and so on. 5. Korean immigrants in Canada were more active to use the formal lounge which has been planned as a traditional element of western house. 6. The seating style of Korean immigrants in both countries belong to chair-seating style mostly. But it was clear that they were making Kimchi with floor seating style in both countries. 7. A level of satisfaction about using carpet was not high for Korean immigrants in both countries cause of uneasiness to clean and it was considered to relate to the floor seating style of them. 8. Almost Korean immigrants were took off the shoes inside of the house and they had shoes cabinet beside the entrance or basement usually. 9. The most popular heating system was ducted heating in both countries. The level of satisfaction about this was different for Korean immigrants in Australia and Canada but most desirable heating system was Ondol for them in both countries commonly.
This study aims to examine the type of residents' participation in village making including the case of "Making Happiness Village" -in the Jeollanam-do province and "Village Making" -in Haenam-gun. The study examines the potential and effects of these projects, draws conclusions and suggests the future direction of village making projects. The results of this study are summarized below. "Making Happiness Village" should be evaluated in detail as it has contributed to the successful and development of traditional Korean residential culture, and has helped to activate and develop agricultural and fishing villages through the improvement of the residential environment and attraction of urban people into the rural area. It also showed the possibility of a project to be settled as a representative of Namdo satisfying the demand for sustainable development. In order to enhance the integrity of a village making project, its master plan must be established and utilized by considering the current status and characteristics of a village, improving its physical environment and seeking a method for economic activation. Policy and economic support from central government and local governments are also required for such a project. The residents' autonomous organization,necessary for unifying the residents' capacity, must organize their own group, such as "Residents' Conference for Village Making (tentative name)" to integrate the existing organizations (women's association, youth group, etc) and establish a conference system to discuss and solve the current issues of the village.
Male consumers, who had largely been overlooked in comparison to their female counterparts, are recently emerging as a major target of marketing. The five-day workweek system and shifts in the expectation of traditional sex roles have brought about this change. This study examined changes in consumption pattems of men and analyzed relevant trends and meanings. Advertisements were chosen as data for analyses in this study because they are the most fundamental tool to stimulate consumption and also because they are the media that convey the culture of the times in the most compressed form. One thousand four hundred and seven advertisements appeared in the 19 volumes of 'Gentlemen's Quarterly,' a men's magazine, that were published between March 2001 and October 2005. These advertisements were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. From the analyses of this study, six different kinds of trends were found. In each trend, important values sought after by men through consumption, and the meanings of consumption for male consumers were explained.

In this study, designated as scenic in the heart of Darangyi rice field in village of Garchon architectural status to preserve the rural town of quantitative analysis of the characteristics village of Garchon traditional rural villages to build the basis for landscape management are the goal. Regional officer of the private property of individuals, but local and national recognition of the shared property, and only when done in this regard the establishment of asset and as a scenic area that has to cherish the history and culture between the people who live where the feedback through the exchange of sensitive areas and to the people who live in it will be an alternative to a variety of ways.
The principal objective of this study is to determine the most appropriate methods to increase global recognition of Korean food. In service of this objective, interviews were conducted with Korean food specialists who worked for a Korean culinary educational institute in Seoul, as well as cooking experts who worked for restaurants in super deluxe hotels. The study was conducted for 10 days from Feb $21^{st}$ to March $2^{nd}$ in 2009. The results of the study were summarized and synthesized into some key opinions. First, one of the main concepts in Korean culinary education should involve the selection of a small group of the best members and training them to a world class level at a traditional HanOk style institute. Second, to establish a standard for trainee recruitment, we selected a group of members consisting of about 20 persons over the age of 18 years who had earned a degree or were scheduled to graduate from university chef training and had also worked for over 5 years in the field, additionally, foreigners were allowed to apply to the institute. The educational term is one year and some benefits, such as a fixed amount of subsidies to help in daily living, free dormitory housing a certificate of course completion, and an employment guarantee. Third, the educational program consisted of two stages one was the specialist course in which traditional foods were covered and the other was the menu development course, which dealt with the creation of new Korean foods. Fourth, unique programs, including specialized foreign foods experience halls or commission education, were instituted in an effort to raise the level of world recognition of the superiority of Korean food.
France is known to be making particular efforts to maintain its traditional urban architectural culture by diverse measures including the implementation of urban policies. However, France is facing up to the need to pursue modern urbanization in keeping with the requirements of the current times. Thus, this paper examines with what priority France is attempting to reflect in its current urban policies its determination to retain its urban architectural tradition and to recreate its capital city of Paris as a future European hub city. To that end, the paper first seeks to analyze Paris' policies for urban architecture from diachronic perspectives in a bid to determine Paris' urban architectural culture. Second, the study attempts to examine within the purview of the paradigm of contemporary urban architectural designs how Paris is pursuing the two conflicting purposes of the preservation of tradition and modern urbanization through the Paris Local Urbanization Plan (or Plan Local d'Urbanisme [PLU]). First, the findings indicate that Paris is applying the principle of a sustainable development plan in all fields of environment, economy and society. In terms of environmental sustainability, Paris is trying to improve the life quality of its citizens through the establishment of efficient mass transportation systems and the expansion of its green belt areas. In terms of social sustainability, Paris is implementing policies to ensure social diversity through housing policies. Also, in terms of economic sustainability, Paris is trying to expand employment and bolster its urban functions by conserving commercial activities and developing peripheral urban areas. Second, the findings indicate that Paris' policy of recovering its traditions takes priority over that of creating a sustainable city.
