The purpose of the study is to microscopically re-clarify the reality of renovation and conflicts that females faced within their families since the modernization period. The research method is the literature review. Families have been considered based on the formation of individual spaces for housing by husband and wife. The study will analyze changes in daily lives and housing consciousness to understand how such housing areas are transforming. The results of the study are as follows. From the perspective of symbolic interaction, in a traditional society, Korean females have been experiencing alienation and isolation in private areas in their daily lives due to family centrism and male chauvinism. Since industrialization, the female's role as the major consumer has been emphasized. Also, in terms of housing space, the symbol of family interaction was influenced more by utility, rationality, and equality than spatial hierarchy. From the perspective of the dailiness of phenomenological traditions, the modern girl's housing consciousness, which appeared during modernization under colonial rule, is considered as revolutionary from traditional society. Soon after in industrialized society, females appeared as leaders of 'sweet home'. They also became the main body to create the space for living by giving meaning to the interior of housing. Considering dailiness from the Marxist perspective, under the colonial social system, females became the subject of colonization through education, socialization, and the labor market. The modern public system presents the female as 'a wise mom and good wife' or laborer causing the colonization of her life. After industrialization, the socialization of housing and prioritization of spending caused the daily lives of females to become colonized by the consumption market.
In modern Asia major cities had same problem with lack of affordable housing for families. So they had to concentrate to the mass supply of housing and made some physical counter effects like high density of cities, limitation of parking space. Also people who lived in those cities could suffer from broken traditional community culture. To rebuild traditional community and increase land usage, Block housing is suggested as a new kind of multi-family housing for old town redevelopment. Now some governments are trying to make urban code to give some initiative for new block housing development in old city blocks. They expect this new housing type can help to solve serious problems like lack of parking area, green space and context of block. Also they hope that block housing development can help to increase safety of town and reduce cost of development. The purpose of this study is to review the establishment and development process of Block Housing and to confirm the aspect which has been changed with urban organization together. Also this study tried to find out the intentional characteristics of similarities and differences with comparison of Korea and Japan. And as a result we could find critical physical viewpoint, and provide considerations for future study and plan. Several cases of block housing in Korea and Japan were reviewed for comparative study and Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) survey was examined to find satisfaction factors and problems which were expected to improved.

For China, two types of housing wear studied: Sahapwon, original form of China housing, and Yinong house which is a typical Sanghai house. First, the elements of living environment in two major cities; Seoul and Sanghai was defined to analyze factors of traditional houses in both cities. Depending on those factors, relationship among traditional and modern housing types were compared and analyzed, focusing on unit plan case studies for a better understanding of living environment in South Korea and China. The spatial layouts and function of Chinese traditional house were analyzed by using pictures, sketches and data which were gathered by interviewing and observing. The shape of Chinese traditional unit plans of houses is basically linear. By repeating this linear shape in the south.north and east.west side, various shapes are formed as an outcome. tangwu and woshi, the living space of Chinese traditional house are strictly hierarchical.

Little research has been done regarding the explicit and objective analysis and explanation of the spatial logic of traditional Korean settlement patterns, in spite of many archeological and socio-historical studies. In this paper we present research into spatial mechanisms and their social meanings in three traditional villages in the southern province of Korea. Conventional space-syntax analysis of spatial configuration has been used to analysis and investigate the morphological forms and functions of the traditional villages. The research results show that the traditional Korean villages are spatially deeper and syntactically less connected than other comparable urban forms, such as old European cities. Configurational analysis of the three villages reveals that their spatial structures are configured to have their own spatial logic, not a geometric order but a spatial structure. What is however noteworthy is the way they embrace their own environmental context and factors and implement them into the process of urban growth or spatial construction.
The importance of the historical sites in cities has risen, and therefore this study was performed to find the methods to feasibly manage such sites. In line with the purpose, this study analytically reviews Japan's Kyo-machiya Restoration Policy, which has been systematically carried out under civil-official cooperation, and related policies. For reference, Kyo-machiya is the Kyoto-style wooden house. The results are derived as in the following. First of all, Kyo-machiya Restoration Policy was focused not only on traditional wooden houses but on residents and other buildings as well, and carried out under the cooperation among residents, the administrative office and enterprises. Kyoto citizens established their own ordinances that are suitable to each area so that historical sites may be managed in accordance with city planning. Also, the think tank actively participated in the establishment of municipal ordinances. Lastly, the policy was behind local residents and civic organizations so that they would continuously pay respect to historic sites in cities.

Growing demand for traditional Korean housing, modernized Korean traditional housing (Hanok) was developed as a way of providing Hanok for the public. However, the standard cost data for Hanok has limitations, as it was developed based on single mock-up project actually constructed and verified by another mock-up Hanok. In order to meet these research objectives, daily report composition which is easy-to-use for on-site workers and managers and also easy-to-accumulate standard cost data was developed first. Secondly, access to the system was made easy through a web server. Finally, an automated calculation formula was inserted to allow the last inputted data to be automatically included for adjustment of standard costs. This system was designed from an industry perspective so that any unspecified and nonprofessional users can easily use. For the users, it has an advantage that on-site workers are provided with a daily report system through web server and also they are able to complete such reports through simple input and output without any additional forms.
