  • This study is to suggest a visualization technique to display the relations of associated data in an optimal way when trying to display the whole data on a limited space by dealing with a large amount of data with linked information. For example, if you track an IP address through several steps and display the data on a screen, or if you visualize the human gene information on a 3-dimensional space, then it becomes even easier to understand the data flow in such cases. In order to simulate the technique given in this study, the given algorithm was applied to a large number of nodes made in a random fashion to optimize the data and we visually observed the result. According to the result, the technique given in this study is more efficient than any previous method in terms of visualization and utilizing space and allows to more easily understand the whole structure of a node because it consists of sub-groups.

  • The variable structure controller has the characteristic that while in sliding mode, the system moves along the switching plane in the vicinity of the switching plane, so it is robust to the parameter fluctuations of the plant. However, a controller based on a variable structure may not meet the desired performance when it is commanded to track any input or exposed to disturbances. To solve this problem, a sliding mode controller based on the IVSC approach excluding an integrator is proposed in this study. The proposed sliding mode control was applied to the position control of a hydraulic cylinder piston. The sliding plane was determined by the pole placement and the control input was designed to ensure the existence of the sliding mode. The feasibility of the modeling and controller was reviewed by comparing it with a conventional proportional control through computer simulation using MATLAB software and experiment in the presence of significant plant parameter fluctuations and disturbances.

  • he progressively improved sensing sensitivity (∆λSPR/∆n, nm/RIU) to detect the refractive index is observed on the SPR platform of an Au-covered epoxy gratings in an increase in potential cycling in a typical three-electrode cell. Here, a DVD-R optical disc was used as a structure template to prepare an Au-covered epoxy gratings, and the newly formed reverse track pitch structure on the epoxy substrate was used as a working electrode directly in aqueous sulfuric acid solution. It is expected that Au reconstruction by potential cycling in sulfuric acid electrolyte increases the packing density of Au atoms in the grain boundary and improves the propagation of electromagnetic waves.

  • Recent work by Ravanbakhsh et al. (2017), Mathuriya et al. (2018) showed that convolutional neural networks (CNN) can be trained to predict cosmological parameters from the visual shape of the large scale structure, i.e. the filaments, clusters and voids of the cosmic density field. These preliminary works used the dark matter density field at redshift zero. We build upon these works by considering realistic mock galaxy catalogues that mimic true observations. We construct light-cones that span the redshift range appropriate for current and near future cosmological surveys such as LSST, EUCLID, WFIRST etc. In summary, we propose a novel multi-image input CNN to track the evolution in the morphology of large scale structures over cosmic time to constrain cosmology and the expansion history of the Universe.

  • The importance of load-to-use latency has been highlighted as state-of-the-art computing cores adopt deep pipelines and high clock frequencies. The cascaded cache was recently proposed to reduce the access cycle of the L1 cache by utilizing differences in latencies among banks of the cache structure. However, this study assumes the cache is comprised of SRAM, making it unsuitable for direct application to non-volatile memory-based systems. This paper proposes a novel mechanism and structure for lowering dynamic energy consumption. It inserts monitoring logic to keep track of swap operations and write counts. If the ratio of swap operations to total write counts surpasses a set threshold, the cache controller skips the swap of cache blocks, which leads to reducing write operations. To validate this approach, experiments are conducted on the non-volatile memory-based cascaded cache. The results show a reduction in write operations by an average of 16.7% with a negligible increase in latencies.

  • The capabilities of the metaverse have been demonstrated by representative examples such as Roblox, Fortnite, and Zepeto, and it can enable gaming, social networking services, and other applications. Nevertheless, research on the metaverse has been fragmented owing to conflicting definitions, core values, and characteristics. This ambiguity in metaverse conventions has hindered related research, analysis, and policy establishment. As the confusion seems to aggravate, consistent concepts should be established. Although the coronavirus disease pandemic led to a collapse in metaverse usage, it is regaining public interest since 2022. To promote the metaverse development, we structure core values based on existing research and surveys of consumer expectations. We found that consumers perceive the metaverse as a realistic virtual space and a potential economic opportunity. Hence, it seems necessary to track the extent to which the metaverse core values satisfy consumer demands. Such core values should be consistently reflected in policies and technology development.

  • The noise and vibration generated by the subway rolling stocks operated along the Seoul Subway Line No.1, 2, 3, and 4 lead to a controversy of pollution problem especially in residential areas. However, there is no data or guide to define the damage or provide adequate protection against such pollutions. The field measurements were made to characterize the noise attenuation due to distance, noise level distribution around the subway track of the aboveground and underground parts of each Line. The assessment criteria and methods are considered in addition to the practical available noise control methods. The noise level measured at Line No. 1 and 3 are less than 60 dB(A) with no pollution problem. Only a part of the aboveground section of Line No.2 and 4 indicates severe noise pollution. The effective boundary of these areas exposed to 70dB (A) noise are within 50m from the track centerline of No.2 line and 25m of No.4 line. The residents file a strong complaints whenever the noise level exceeds the 80dB (A) , and an occasional complaints between 70 to 80 dB(A). The distribution of high level noise of 80 dB(A) occurs within 25m from the track centerline of the overbridge, 12.5m of the short steel bridge, and about loom of the long steel bridge such as Dangsan Bridge. The intermediate noise level of 70 to 80 dB(A) is recorded within 50m from the overbridge, U-type retaining structure, and short steel structure, and 280m from the long steel bridge. The results presented in this paper can be used to understand the characteristics of the noise pollution along the Seoul Subway now In operation, and used as a guide to improve the existing noise pollution problems.

  • In the case of an elevated railway station, structure borne noise and vibration due to structural limitations allow the load and vibration from railway vehicles to be directly transmitted to the station structure, resulting in an increase in the number of civil complaints from customers and staff of the station. The floating slab track system, which is well known as one of the solutions for reducing the noise and vibration from elevated railway stations, usually contains rubber mounts or rubber pads under the railway slab which act as a damper. These types of device have the disadvantage that is difficult to predetermine the exact stiffness and damping ratio under the nonlinear loads resulting from train services. In this study, an isolator with a friction type of wedge is introduced, which can be applied to floating slab track systems and to be designed with precisely the required stiffness. Furthermore, a comparative analysis of the stiffness between the designed and experimental values is carried out, while the damping ratio, which is closely related to the friction wedge blocks, is deduced according to the train load condition. The performance tests of the isolator were conducted in accordance with the DIN 45673-7 standard which includes both static and dynamic load tests. The load conditions for the performance tests are designed to conform to the DIN standard related to the weight of the train and rail track, in order to perform vertical and horizontal load tests, so as to ensure the secure structural safety of the railway. Also, by checking the change aspect of the friction coefficients of the friction elements according to the loading rate, the vibration reduction performance of the friction type isolator with variable loading rate conditions is examined.

  • The vehicle-track structure dynamic interaction analysis problem can be treated as sliding contact problem, and it is assumed that vehicle run at a constant speed over a rail modeled as beam elements. Unfortunately, Salome-Meca can not satisfy the compatibility condition for the beam master elements, which are consist of the elements with higher order polynomial shape function, in sliding contact problem. In this study, it is suggested to use more finer beam master element mesh as the remedy for incompatibility in sliding contact problem, and the accuracy of the solution is secured. For this, the effect of beam element mesh refinement consisting runway is analysed through simple examples, and the applicability to the dynamic interaction analysis is evaluated. Finally, the dynamic interaction analysis of railway skewed culvert transition problem is carried out to evaluate the effect of supporting stiffness due to backfill pattern changes and track irregularity due to uneven subgrade settlement.

  • In this paper, we propose a wavelet based fuzzy neural network (WFNN) based direct adaptive control scheme for the solution of the tracking problem of mobile robots. To design a controller, we present a WFNN structure that merges the advantages of the neural network, fuzzy model and wavelet transform. The basic idea of our WFNN structure is to realize the process of fuzzy reasoning of the wavelet fuzzy system by the structure of a neural network and to make the parameters of fuzzy reasoning be expressed by the connection weights of a neural network. In our control system, the control signals are directly obtained to minimize the difference between the reference track and the pose of a mobile robot via the gradient descent (GD) method. In addition, an approach that uses adaptive learning rates for training of the WFNN controller is driven via a Lyapunov stability analysis to guarantee fast convergence, that is, learning rates are adaptively determined to rapidly minimize the state errors of a mobile robot. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the proposed direct adaptive control system using the WFNN controller, we compare the control results of the WFNN controller with those of the FNN, the WNN and the WFM controllers.
