  • The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of economic factors on depression among the Korean Elderly. In detail, this study is convergence study conducted to understand the moderating effect of economic support from children in the relationship of total cost of living and Depression. For this purpose, this study used the 3,392 Korean elderly from 2015 Korean Welfare Panel Data. As a results, total cost of living of the elderly had a significant effect on depression. Also, the relationship between total cost of living and depression among the elderly was buffered by economic support from children. In other words, the higher economic support from children, the less negative effect of total cost of living on depression. Based on the results, this study discussed that economic factors should be considered as a major factor to reduce depression of the elderly.

  • In order to reduce packaging and logistics costs for any business, it is important to identify opportunities for improvement throughout an entire logistics system including measurement of the performance and cost of packaging. Although the importance of packaging in a supply chain has been recognized by many scholars and experts, the total cost and value of packaging have not been successfully estimated. This paper reviews the recent researches and articles that tried to quantify the value of packaging focusing on the business decision between reusable and expendable shipping container systems. Three key factors such as cost, ownership, and standardization are identified and discussed in terms of impact on supply chain costs and performances. It is important to understand that the decision of a package system can change a logistics activities and even entire logistical system. Hence, the total cost and value of transport packaging should be calculated with understanding of interactions with logistical activities throughout supply chain. Identifying the opportunities and constraints of packaging changes on total logistics cost and activities must be carefully examined before implementation of a packaging system.

  • Recently the Korean government also has strictly restricted a law such as GBCC(Green Building Certification Criteria)and RPS(Renewable Portfolio Standard) on the construction. Especially the government announced a obligation of renewable energy consumption over 12% for all the public buildings of total area over 1,000㎡ since 2014. Regarding to the policy, this study presented the economics of energy analysis of the public office buildings that supplies 12% renewable energy output in the early stage of construction project. This paper calculated on CO2 emission by the geothermal, solar heat, and solar photovoltaic system and estimated the saving cost. Reduced cost through the energy saving are predicted to influence on the total construction cost. As a result air pollution and energy saving cost are expected that renewable energy system would be saving total initial cost of construction on planning phase.

  • Objectives : The aim of the study was to estimate the annual socioeconomic cost of diseases in Korea. Methods : We estimate both the direct and indirect costs of diseases in Korea during 2003 using a prevalence-based approach. The direct cost estimates included medical expenditures, traffic costs and caregiver's cost, and the indirect costs, representing the loss of production, included lost workdays due to illness and lost earnings due to premature death, which were estimated based on the human capital theory. The cost estimates were reported at three different discount rates (0, 3 and 5%). Results : The cost of diseases in Korea during 2003 was 38.4 trillion won based on 0% discount rate. This estimate represents approximately 5.3% of GDP The direct and indirect costs were estimated to be 22.5 trillion (58.5% of total cost) and 15.9 trillion won (41.5%), respectively. It was also found that the cost for those aged $40\sim49$ accounted for the largest proportion (21.7%) in relation to age groups. The cost of diseases for males was 23.5% higher than that for females. For major diseases, the total socioeconomic costs were 16.0, 13.4, 11.3 and 11.19% for neoplasms, and diseases of the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems, respectively. Conclusions : This study can be expected to provide valuable information for determining intervention and funding priorities, and for planning health policies.

  • The ability to make good cost overruns predictions is a very important aspect of in major construction project. The probabilistic cost models can provide more reliable than traditional cost models which have been used in korea to prepare Bill of Quantities, if the actual cost data are sufficient enough to analyze the trends of the variables. The paper considers non-deterministic methods in a cost estimate. The method(referred to as the 'Monte Carlo simulation' method) interprets cost data indirectly, to generate a probability distribution for total costs from the deficient elemental experience cost distribution. The objectives of this research is to develop a method to forecast the probabilistic total construction cost and the elemental work cost

  • The current building energy efficiency rating certification regulation on apartment houses evaluates only the saving rate of energy consumed during operation, i.e. use, of a building, but doesn't consider the energy consumptions and environmental load($CO_2$) emissions occurring during the whole lifetime of a building. So this study calculated the energy consumptions and environmental load emissions occurring during the whole lifetime of a building, selected reference schemes and alternative items by design variables to present a design draft considering energy efficiency and environmental performance, and evaluated the total cost by combining and calculating its direct cost(material and heating cost) and indirect cost(environmental cost), for an existing apartment house as an evaluation object. As a result of analysis, the change of heating cost by alternative items of design variables showed a 4~8% change rate compared to the reference scheme, and the material cost of design variable 7 showed a maximum 4.4 times change rate in the alternative plan 6 compared to the reference scheme. The environmental cost showed a similar change rate to the material cost change rate in general, but showed a similar environmental cost change rate to the heating cost change rate in case of design variables 4-1, 4-2, 7.

  • The object of this research is to develop a computerized algorithm of cost estimation method to forecast the total construction cost in the bidding stage by the historical and elemental work cost data. Traditional cost models to prepare Bill of Quantities in the korea construction industry since 1970 are not helpful to forecast the project total cost in the bidding stage because the BOQ is always constant data according to the design factors of a particular project. On the contrary, statistical models can provide cost quicker and more reliable than traditional ones if the collected cost data are sufficient enough to analyze the trends of the variables. The estimation system considers non-deterministic methods which referred to as the 'Monte Carlo simulation. The method interprets cost data to generate a probabilistic distribution for total costs from the deficient elemental experience cost distribution.

  • Many Korean companies are challenged to reduce logistics cost and meet environmental-friendly logistics. The textile companies in harsh competition are requested to make improvement on their logistics environment to cut down the total cost. However, they have reached the limit on improving the manufacturing process. We believe that the logistics department is the most improvable part at present. Improving logistics will be highly effective to cut down the total cost. In this study, we present Pad Pool System(PPS) as the solution to save their logistics cost. PPS, which means the shared use of Styrofoam pads, will enable the textile companies to cut down their cost and strengthen enterprise competitiveness. Also, PPS will be helpful reducing environmental disruption because the system reuses retrieved Styrofoam pads many times.

  • The maintenance cost depends on various factors such as building volume, floor area, number of household and so on. The maintenance cost of the apartment housing is affected by the maintenance type, building physical factor, sociogeographic aspects. Among these, the maintenance characteristics is represented and made up by the total floor area and number of household which means main factor to provide the building scale roughly. In this paper, it aimed at modelling the estimation function of the maintenance cost with the total floor area and number of household and analyzing the elasticity of the two factors. Although items of maintenance cost are various in general cost, repair cost and so on, we classified these items into the 5 categories. 5 categories are a general cost, a facility maintenance cost, a utilization cost, insurance and sanitary cost. The estimation function used a power function and it has better goodness-offitness than any other estimation methods in statistics. A power function has a three curve types with concave and convex and linear style to the origin.

  • The aim of paper is to calculate the optimized size of Mobile Harbor(MH) which would be operated in South Korea coast area. MH is the combined entity which has the function of both ship and container port. In estimating the optimized size, the total cost concept is applied to the different size of MH. Trade-off factors for calculating total cost are MH cost and the over-capacity lost cost. The factors for MH cost estimation are the cargo demand, distance from origin to destination, voyage route and MH's fixed and variable cost in both sailing and port. The other cost is the over-capacity lost cost which is occurred from dead space in case of oversize compared with a voyage demand. The alternatives for the least cost are 250TEU, 500TEU, 750TEU and 1,000TEU sized vessel. The result of research is that 250TEU sized vessel is optimized in a South Korea costal service. If the coastal area be separated in terms of voyage distance or the specific area in considering trade, the optimized size is changed depending upon distance.
