Precision Position Control of PMSM using Neural Observer and Parameter Compensator

  • This paper presents neural load torque compensation method which is composed of a deadbeat load torque observer and gains compensation by a parameter estimator. As a result, the response of the PMSM (permanent magnet synchronous motor) obtains better precision position control. To reduce the noise effect, the post-filter is implemented by a MA (moving average) process. The parameter compensator with an RLSM (recursive least square method) parameter estimator is adopted to increase the performance of the load torque observer and main controller. The parameter estimator is combined with a high performance neural load torque observer to resolve problems. The neural network is trained in online phases and it is composed by a feed forward recall and error back-propagation training. During normal operation, the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by the error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. As a result, the proposed control system has a robust and precise system against load torque and parameter variation. Stability and usefulness are verified by computer simulation and experiment.

  • Nonlinear Attitude Dynamic Equation for rigid-body satellite is derived and linearzed. Estimator using Kalman filter and controller are designed. Controller using LQR technique implemented on satellite under torque disturbance shows much better performance than those by using of Bang-Bang technique.

  • A new control scheme using a torsional torque estimator based on a neural network is proposed and investigated for improving control characteristics of the high-performance motion control system. This control method presents better performance in the corresponding speed vibration response, compared with the disturbance observer-based control method. This result comes from the fact that the proposed neural network estimator keeps the self-learning capability, whereas the disturbance observer-based torque estimator with low pass filter should dbjust the time constant of the adopted filter according to the natural resonance frequency detemined by considering the system parameters varied. The simulation results shows the validity of the proposed control scheme.

  • This study presents neural load disturbance observer that used to deadbeat load torque observer and regulation of the compensation gain by parameter estimator. As a result, the response of PMSM fellows that of the nominal plant. The load torque compensation method is compose of a neural deadbeat observer.   • A diagnostic methodology, which utilizes only the remotely-measurable signals, has been requested to be developed in order to evaluate and monitor conditions of MOVs. It is proven that the stem thrust are the most important variables which provide the operability of MOVs. Therefore the stem thrust estimator was developed and validated, which estimates stem thrust by use of the motor torque. The motor torque is calculated using electrical signals which can be measured in Motor Control Center(MCC). The procedures to evaluate the accuracy of the diagnostic variables were set up and the accuracy of each variable was obtained through the experiments under various conditions. In addition, the applicability of the stem thrust estimator was tested in the plants.

  • PMSM drives are widely used in the industrial and residential applications because of high efficiency, high power density and high performance. For better performance of PMSM, however, torque ripples should be reduced. This paper investigates a reduction of torque ripple due to the unsinusoidal flux linkage produced by the shapes of stator slot and magnetic pole. To minimize torque ripple, a simple flux estimator is proposed. This method interatively compensates the distributed flux linkage from an error between the measured and estimated currents. The proposed algorithm is verified through simulation.

  • A number of techniques have been developed for estimation of speed or position in motor drives. The accuracy of these techniques is affected by the variation of motor parameters such as the stator resistance, stator inductance or torque constant. This paper is proposed a neural network based estimator for torque and stator resistance in IPMSM Drives. The neural weights are initially chosen randomly and a model reference algorithm adjusts those weights to give the optimum estimations. The neural network estimator is able to track the varying parameters quite accurately at different speeds with consistent performance. The neural network parameter estimator has been applied to slot and flux linkage torque ripple minimization of the IPMSM. The validity of the proposed parameter estimator is confirmed by the operating characteristics controlled by neural networks control.

  • A practical pinch torque estimator based on the Kalman filter is proposed for low-cost anti-pinch window control systems. To obtain the accurate angular velocity from Hall-effect sensor measurements, the angular velocity calculation algorithm is executed with additional procedures for removing the measurement noises. Apart from the previous works using the angular velocity estimates and torque estimates for detecting the pinched condition, the torque rate is augmented to the system model and the proposed pinch estimator is derived by applying the steady-state Kalman filter recursion to the model. The motivation of this approach comes from the idea that the bias errors in torque estimates due to the motor parameter uncertainties can be almost eliminated by introducing the torque rate state. For detecting the pinched condition, a systematic way to determine the threshold level of the torque rate estimates is also suggested via the deterministic estimation error analysis. Simulation results are given to certify the pinch detection performance of the proposed algorithm and its robustness against the motor parameter uncertainties.
