  • The determination of surface topography is believed to be extremely important in the areas of contact mechanics, adhesion and friction. In order to describe topography of various frictional surface, the wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions in dry friction. And fractal descriptors was applied to frictional surface of laser modified steel with image processing system. These descriptors to analyze surface structure are fractal dimension. Surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. Topography of frictional surface can be effectively obtained by fractal dimensions.

  • A method for calibrating a laser profiling system for seafloor micro-topography measurements is described. The system consists of a digital camera and an arrangement of six red lasers that are mounted as a unit on a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The lasers project as parallel planes onto the seafloor, creating profiles of the local topography that are interpreted from the digital camera image. The goal of the calibration was to determine the plane equations for the six lasers relative to the camera. This was accomplished in two stages. First, distortions in the digital image were corrected using an interpolation method based on a virtual pinhole camera model. Then, the laser planes were determined according to their intersections with a calibration target. The position and orientation of the target were obtained by a registration process. The selection of the target shape and size was found to be critical to a successful calibration at sea, due to the limitations in the manoeuvrability of the ROV.

  • Image processing and computer vision technologies are becoming increasingly important in a variety of application fields that require techniques and tools for sophisticated image analysis. In particular, image segmentation is a technology that plays an important role in image analysis. In this study, in order to identify recent research trends on image segmentation techniques, we used the Web of Science(WoS) database to analyze the R&D topography based on the network structure of the author's keyword co-occurrence matrix. As a result, from 2015 to 2023, as a result of the analysis of the R&D map of research articles on image segmentation, R&D in this field is largely focused on four areas of research and development: (1) researches on collecting and preprocessing image data to build higher-performance image segmentation models, (2) the researches on image segmentation using statistics-based models or machine learning algorithms, (3) the researches on image segmentation for medical image analysis, and (4) deep learning-based image segmentation-related R&D. The scientometrics-based analysis performed in this study can not only map the trajectory of R&D related to image segmentation, but can also serve as a marker for future exploration in this dynamic field.

  • This study focused on the method of interpreting Moire's topography. There has been no standard of interpretation which informed, this study, The conclusions arc as follows: Miore's image closed contour lines which is consisted of points. These points in one contour have the same distances from the screen to the patient's back. Moire's index means the number of contour gaps from symmetrical point of a specific point with the axis of central line. The number of contours which pass the median line means the degree of antero-posterior curvature.

  • The toxicity of environmental pollutants was measured between a image of the surface topography in HeLa cells using atomic force microscopy for the possibility of toxic effect measurement and environmental monitoring. A image of the surface topography by AFM were estimated as toxic endpoints. The surface topography by AFM was observed a change of the cell surface in the environmental pollutants, but the standard of the measurement requires for the dose-effect degree. The overall results indicate that the possibility of measurement using AFM were confirmed a dose-effect degree related toxic effects, but it requres correlation between more various biomarker and AFM's measurements if the possibility of the toxic effect measurement was established.

  • To acquire an underwater topographic information is necessary for the design and construction of structures in marine and inland water. It consists of water depth information by bathymetric survey and underwater bottom topography image information can be obtained by side scan sonar in different ways. For the purpose of providing high quality data by means of engineering site survey, it is necessary to apply simultaneous acquisition of two information and carry out the integrated interpretation to each other. The present research aims to obtain information of the underwater topography and water depth at the same time using interferometer technique, and to validate interferometer technique with accuracy estimation.

  • Accurate measurement of seafloor topography plays a crucial role in developing marine industries such as maritime safety, resource exploration, environmental protection, and coastal management. The seafloor topography is constructed using side scan sonar (SSS) and single beam echosounder (SBES) or multibeam echosounder (MBES), which transmit and receive ultrasound waves through a device attached to a marine survey vessel. However, the use of a sonar system is affected by noise pollution areas, and the single beam has a limited scope of application. At the same time, the multibeam is mainly applicable for depth observation. For these reasons, it is difficult to determine the boundaries and areas of seafloor topography. Therefore, this study proposes a method to improve the backscatter data of multibeam echosounder, which has a relationship with the seafloor quality, by using digital image processing to classify the shape of the underwater surface.

  • The fractal-based method for describing rubbed surface texture has aroused great interest. The determination of rubbed surface topography is believed to be extremely important in the areas of contact mechanics, adhesion and friction. In order to describe topography of the rubbed surface, the wear test was carried out with annular surfaces of wear testing specimens in dry friction. furthermore, the relation between the fractal dimensions and the frictional conditions are also investigated and fractal descriptors was applied to rubbed surface with image processing. Fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of image surface pixel. Fractal dimension increased according as the applied load and sliding distance increase. Topography of the rubbed surface can be effectively obtained by fractal dimensions.

  • Purpose: To represent the shape of toric corea in the elliptical function for the determination of curvature distribution and lacrimal thickness between cornea and contact lens when the lens is fitted. Methods: Topography measurements of corneal curvature and curvature equation derived from the assumed elliptical function were evaluated using the Excel program which included the necessary equation derived. Results: Mathematical expressions for the cornea whose ribbon shaped-topography image, in which the center does not coincide with the corneal apex, can be determined. Conclusions: For the application where the higher accuracy on the cornea is not required, such as higher order aberration, the cornea cal be expressed in the simple elliptical function.
