This study aims to utilize DEA, analyze the efficiency of Korean coffee franchises, look into the factors that affect efficiency, and improve the efficiency of Korean coffee franchises. The main results of this study are as follows. First, according to CCR model standards, there are a total of 9 efficient coffee franchises and according to BCC model standards, there are a total of 12 efficient coffee franchises. A total of three of the inefficient DMUs were found to have a value of 1 for BCC, while the other 25 were found to be inefficient for both technology and scale. Second, of 28 franchises, 11 were analyzed to be decreasing return to scale and through future increased investments of optimum levels, business performance can be improved and efficiency can be enhanced. Analysis showed that 9 franchises appeared as CRS and it is most ideal to maintain the yield of future output elements at current levels and the work efficiency of 8 franchises in increasing returns to scale states expands as production scales increase according to specialization and role division and yield can relatively improve a lot. Third, the analysis of factors affecting the efficiency of franchises through the Tobit regression analysis showed that the number of franchises and operating periods had a positive (+) effect on efficiency. Based on this study, the efficiency of coffee franchises should be analyzed to establish strategies to maximize efficiency. Based on this study, the efficiency of coffee franchises should be analyzed to establish strategies to maximize efficiency.
This paper examines the determinants of efficiency in a KOSDAQ-listed manufacturing firm. We use Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to estimate the efficiency of the export manufacturing firm. We employ two inputs (number of employees, equity) and one output (sales) in the DEA. The determinants of export manufacturing firm efficiency are estimated using the panel Tobit model. An analysis of 369 export manufacturing firms from 2013 to 2015 indicates the following results: First, the R&D intensity, the wage and salary intensity, total asset, and equity ratio each had a negative impact on both the CCR and BCC efficiency scores. However, export intensity had a negative impact on CCR efficiency scores in a KOSDAQ-listed total export manufacturing firm. Second, the R&D intensity had a positive impact on both the CCR and BCC efficiency scores, but export intensity, the wage and salary intensity, and equity ratio each had a negative impact on the CCR and BCC efficiency scores in a KOSDAQ-listed large export manufacturing firm. Third, the R&D intensity, the wage and salary intensity, total asset, and equity ratio each had a negative impact on both the CCR and BCC efficiency scores; respectively, in a KOSDAQ-listed small and medium export manufacturing firm.
This study was conducted with the purpose of focusing on local water supply services, identifying equity and influencing factors, and analyzing the results. Using the Coulter model for 152 local governments across the country, equity was measured for six variables, including average unit price, rates of recovering costs from water price, revenue water ratio, water supply rate, number of employees, and customer satisfaction. Among them, the level of inequality in the average unit price was the highest. As a result of trend analysis, the degree of equity of most variables decreased. In addition, through Tobit analysis, factors influencing equity such as financial independence, local tax burden, and administrative district level were confirmed. In order to provide equitable water supply services, institutional changes such as rate increases are needed. And the government and local governments must pursue various water supply plans.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the efficiency and productivity change and inefficiency cause of the korean non-life insurance companies of the before($1993{\sim}1996$) and after($1998{\sim}2004$) of IMF. we use DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model to measure company efficiency and MPI(Malmquist productivity indices) to measure company productivity change and Tobit regression to analyze inefficiency cause. we utilize ten non-life insurance companies in korea and the time-series data for eleven from 1993 to 2004 except 1997. The empirical results show the following findings. First, total cost efficiency shows that the after of IMF decrease of 3.7% over the before of IMF and MPI change indicates that the after of IMF increase 7.7% over the before IMF. Second, the results of Tobit regression to analysis the cause of inefficiency show that total cost efficiency is positively related invested assets, acquisition expenses ratio, collection expenses ratio and is negatively related solicitors ratio, personnel expenses ratio, land & buildings expenses ratio, loss ratio, net operating expenses ratio. Especially inefficiency of small-to-mid sized companies is main cause of total cost efficiency of non-life insurance companies in korea. Small-to-mid sized companies endeavored various aspects of business strategies.
Countries around the world are propelling policies and strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of their own ports as they recognize the roles and importance of the ports in the international trade and logistics. The main objective of this study is to compare efficiencies of major container ports and analyze the factors that affect the efficiencies in the three regions of East Asia, Europe, and North America, which cover most of world container shipping. We employ DEA models in analyzing the efficiencies of 45 container ports using 5 input and 2 output variables. We also carry out regression analyses to estimate the impacts of each factor on the throughput (TEU), overall technical efficiency (OTE), pure technical efficiency (PTE), and scale efficiency (SE). The analysis results show that East Asian ports, despite being smaller in average size, make greater output and achieve higher technical and scale efficiencies than European or North American ports.
This study presents the determinants of R&D efficiency as the focus on CEO's competency, which influences R&D competency and R&D efficiency. The research samples are 6,708 technology-innovation small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The independent variable is the R&D competency(existence of R&D organization, level of R&D personnel, R&D personnel management, R&D investment), the dependent variable is R&D efficiency. The moderator is the CEO's competency(experience level in its own industry, technical knowledge level, technology management strategy, management ability). R&D efficiency measures the relationship between inputs(level of R&D personnel, R&D investment) and outputs(patent applications, prototype) by the DEA. and the determinant analysis uses Tobit regression. As a result of the analysis, the existence of R&D organization and R&D personnel management is positively significant, level of R&D personnel and R&D investment is negatively significant for R&D efficiency. The moderating effect of CEO's competency on the relationship between the R&D competency and R&D efficiency is significant determinants of CEO's experience(experience level in its own industry, technical knowledge level) and technology management strategy. The finding is to measure the efficiency of R&D performance, and to analyze its determinants as the moderating effect of CEO's competency, using the technology appraisal data. In the conclusion session, the limitations of the research and future research directions were discussed.

As an alternative to solving social problems, social economic actors are attracting attention as an important alternative. SPC is a private program that pays incentives according to the social performance measured by monetary value. This study measured efficiency by applying DEA to social enterprises that participated in the SPC program and analyzed the factors affecting efficiency through tobit regression. As a result of DEA analysis, it was found that 21% of social enterprises participating in SPC were efficient, but 66% needed to improve their efficiency. In the Tobit regression analysis, the efficiency was relatively low in the case of manufacturing sector, and when the square term of sales is included, the efficiency decreases as sales increase. Through this, it was estimated that external support is needed at a low level sales before crossing the critical point, and that the efficiency of social value creation increases when it grows above a certain level. Moreover, it is significant in that it combines the variables used in the analysis of traditional industrial efficiency while conducting efficiency analysis focusing on the social performance by monetary value, which is considered the most important achievement of social enterprises. It is believed that it will contribute to research related to the environment creation and the requirements of each field in creating social values for social enterprises in the future.
This study examined the factors by which people choose auto-camping as their primary leisure activity after conducting a questionnaire survey of the visitors to the Chiaksan national park Guryong auto-campground. The majority of the visitors were employed (60%) in their 30s and 40s (85%) with relatively high education (88% of which had bachelor's degree or higher) and income levels (87% of which had family income greater than KRW30 million). Most visitors were family group visitors (82%), and for many visitors, auto-camping appeared to be their primary leisure activity as 24% of the respondents said that they visited auto-campground more than 10 times a year. Only 18% of the visitors had auto-camped for longer than 5 years, indicating that auto-camping is a relatively new leisure activity that has become popular in recent times. Factor analysis with 19 items that measured the degree of agreement on the relative advantages of auto-camping extracted four latent factors that affected the selection of auto-camping as a leisure activity: factor 1 (refreshment through contact with nature), factor 2 (novelty and a sense of accomplishment), factor 3 (convenience), and factor 4 (entertainment). Results of regression analysis that examined the effects of the four extracted factors on the visitors' level of satisfaction on auto-camping (measured by the number of visits to auto-campgrounds per year) indicated that 'refreshment through contact with nature' was the most critical factor when deciding to select auto-camping as their leisure activity. 'Novelty and a sense of accomplishment' and 'convenience' were also statistically significant -but to a lesser degree, whereas 'entertainment' did not statistically significantly affect the visitors' decision. These results suggest that, for designing and managing auto-campgrounds, it is more important to preserve the surrounding nature than to provide more facilities for campers' convenience and entertainment.
Multinational corporations' overseas R&D activities bring host countries positive effects such as knowledge spillover, technology transfer, job creation and etc. For this reason, many countries have made efforts to attract foreign firms' R&D investment in their national territories. Korean government have also implemented some policy measures to expedite foreign firms operating in Korea to increase R&D activities. However, the firms' R&D investment in Korea has still been unsatisfactory, and only few studies have examined this issue. Therefore, this study attempts to explain the R&D investment of foreign firms operating in Kore, from the perspective Dunning's eclectic paradigm. Utilizing linear regression and Tobit model, this study analyzes the influence of OLI advantages on R&D intensity of foreign firms in Korea. The result shows that locational advantages of Korea (such as revealed technological advantage) had positive influences on foreign firms' R&D intensity. However, the influence of other OLI advantages were different by foreign firms' nationalities. For instance, internalization advantages had influences on R&D intensity, but the directions were different between Japanese and other nationalities. Based on the results, we provided some discussion and attempted to draw implications for Korean government's FDI and R&D policy.
This study attempts to examine the moderating effect of religiosity in the relationship between religion and secular giving behavior (absolute amount and philanthropic effort). For the analysis, this study utilizes 'Giving Korea 2012' by the Beautiful Foundation and employs Tobit regression model. Focusing on giving amount, major findings are that (1) Protestants and Catholics give greater amounts for secular cause than those with no religious affiliation; and (2) interaction between Protestants and religiosity and interaction between Catholics and religiosity have significant relationships with citizens' secular giving amount in a positive direction. Focusing on philanthropic effort (giving amount divided by family income), major findings are that (1) there is no significant relationship between religion types and citizens' philanthropic effort and (2) interaction between Protestants and religiosity and interaction between Catholics and religiosity have significant relationships with citizens'philanthropic effort in a positive direction. This study provides new knowledge foundation on citizens' secular giving behavior and contributes to developing effective fundraising strategies of nonprofit organizations on religion-related donor markets.
