  • The mission-critical computer for air defense has to maintain its operation without any fault for a long mission time and is required to implement at low cost. Now the reliability of the mission critical-computer using Active Sparing Redundancy fault-tolerant technique is inferior to that of the computer using TMR technique. So in this paper are proposed Extended ASR(EASR) technique that provides higher reliability than that of the computer using TMR technique. The fault-tolerant performance of the implemented mission-critical computer is proven through reliability analysis and numbers of fault recovery test. Also, the reliability of the mission-critical computer using EASR technique is compared with those of computer using ASR and TMR techniques. EASR technique is very suitable to the mission-critical computer.

  • In this paper, a new method to efficiently generate the 3-D(three-dimensional) video holograms for 3-D moving scenes, which is called here the TSR-N-LUT method, is proposed by the combined use of temporal-spatial redundancy(TSR) of 3-D video images and novel look-up table(N-LUT) technique. That is, in the proposed scheme, with the differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) algorithm, temporally redundancy redundant data in the inter-frame of a 3-D video images are removed between the frames, and then inter-line redundant data in the inter-frame of 3-D video images are also removed by using the DPCM method between the lines. Experimental results show that the proposed method could reduced the number of calculated object points and the calculation time of one object point by 23.72% and 19.55%, respectively on the average compared to the conventional method. Good experimental results with 3-D test moving pictures finally confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method to the fast generation of CGH patterns of the 3-D video images.

  • The basic of a reliable service using a system and network is duplex configuration. There are a various duplex configuration for a system and network and we must have a performance indicator about how to use some redundancy. Then, we need analysis tool and method which analyze efficiently the performance about various duplex models. The tool that analyzing the performance and stability of the system and the network are a mathematical analysis method and simulation method. The mathematical analysis is a commonly used method, but high complexity system is not suitable for analysis methods and the simulation method has the problems which take a long time to understand in itself. Then, to overcome this problems, we propose the more simple method than used method for network analysis and we prove the efficiency by using the simple redundancy models.

  • The flight control computer applied to manned/unmanned aircraft is one of the key components directly connected to the control of the aircraft, and is generally designed with a redundant architecture so that essential functions for flight can be maintained even if a failure occurs in a single channel. The operational flight program loaded on these redundant flight control computers should be designed considering a time synchronization between channels, input data selection methods from redundant sensors, and fault detection/isolation methods for channels. In this paper, we propose a redundancy management method applied to triplex compact flight control computers for advanced air vehicle. The proposed redundancy management method includes a synchronization algorithm between triplex channels, an input data voting method from sensors, a bus control right selection method for control command output, and a fault detection/isolation method for channels.

  • In HVDC systems, the full-bridge submodule increases the number of components compared to the half-bridge submodule, but the failure-rate can be reduced by securing 100 % redundancy. However, full-bridge submodules require more complex control algorithms to ensure the redundancy and to prevent arm-short with sufficient dead-time. To solve this problem, we analyse the failure-rate of the paralleled half-bridge configuration with the same number of components and 100 % redundancy as the full-bridge submodule. The fault tree analysis (FTA) method is applied to the conventional part failure analysis to reflect the operation risk of the submodule, thereby predicting the life-cycle of the submodule more accurately. To verify the validity, the failure-rate results of the proposed FTA based analysis method are compared with the failure rate obtained by the part failure method.

  • Recently, the novel loop-up table(N-LUT) method to solve the tremendous memory problem of the conventional look-up table (LUT) method as well as to increase the generation speed of hologram patterns has been proposed. But, as the resolution of an input 3-D object is enhanced, the number of object points to be calculated for generation of its hologram pattern also increases, which results in a sharp increase of the computation time. Therefore, in this paper, a new approach for fast generation of the hologram pattern of 3-D object images is proposed by using the block redundancy feature of 3-D object images and the N-LUT method. Experimental results show that in the proposed method the number of object points and the overall computation time have been reduced by 43.3 % and 47.9 %, respectively compared to those of the conventional method for the case of the $5{\times}5$ block size. These good experimental results finally confirm the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • A duplex system enhances reliability by tolerating faults through spatial redundancy. Faults can be detected by duplicating identical tasks in pairs of modules. However, this kind of systems cannot even detect the fault if it occurs coincidently due to either malfunctions of common component such as power supply and clock or due to such environmental disruption as EMI. In the paper, we propose a method to reduce those effects of coincident faults in the duplex controller computer. Specifically, a duplex system tolerates coincident faults by using a sophistication sequencing of scheduling technique with certain timing redundancy. In particular when all tasks should be completed in the sense of real-time, the suggested scheduling method works properly to minimize the probability of faulty tasks due to coincident fault without missing the timing constraints.

  • This paper presents the forward kinematics of the Casing Oscillator that is a construction machine. The Structure of the Casing Oscillator is similar to those of 4 degree-of-freedom mechanisms with a redundancy. With analytical (geometrical) methods, the solutions of the forward position kinematics problem are significantly found by both solving an 8$^{th}$ -order polynomial equation in one unknown variable and using one over-constraint geometrical equation which can be derived under the condition of a redundancy. The proposed forward kinematics has closed-form solutions and allows Auto-Balancing control of the moving platform in real time. Numerical examples are presented and the results are verified by an inverse kinematics analysis.

  • For efficient transmission of 3DTV video signals, it is necessary to eliminate the inherent redundancy between the stereo image pairs. Though disparity estimation provides a powerful tool for eliminating the redundancy, it is very time consuming. This paper presents a novel disparity estimation scheme based on the human visual property. The disparity vectors of image blocks spatially adjacent to the current block are used as initial guesses fur the disparity vector of the current block. In addition, mixed-resolution coding is applied to reduce the computational complexity of disparity estimation. Through computer simulations on a stereoscopic sequence we show that the proposed method gives rise .to visually pleasing results with much reduced computational complexity.
