In this work, we investigate differentially encoded blind transceiver design in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regimes for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling. Owing to the fact that acquisition of channel state information is not viable for short coherence times or in low SNR regimes, we propose a time-spread frequency-encoded method under OFDM modulation. The repetition (spreading) of differentially encoded symbols allows us to achieve a target energy per bit to noise ratio and higher diversity. Based on the channel order, we optimize subcarrier assignment for spreading (along time) to achieve frequency diversity of an OFDM modulated signal. We present the performance of our proposed transceiver design and investigate the impact of Doppler frequency on the performance of the proposed differentially encoded transceiver design. To further improve reliability of the decoded data, we employ capacity-achieving low-density parity-check forward error correction encoding to the information bits.
We generalize the widebane P0-weyl symbol (P0WS) and the widebane spreading function (WSF) using the generalized warping function . The new generalized P0WS and WSF are useful for analyzing system and communication channels producing generalized time shifts. We also investigated the relationship between the affine Wey1 symbol(AWS) and the P0WS. By using specific warping functions, we derive new P0WS and WSF as analysis tools for systems and communication channels with non-linear group delary characteristics. The new P0WS preserves specific types of changes imposed on random processes. The new WSF provides a new interpretation of output of system and communication channel as weighted superpositions of non-linear time shifts on the input. It is compared to the conventional method obtaining output of system and communication channel as a convention integration of the input with the impulse response of the system and the communication channel. The convolution integration can be interpreted as weighted superpositions of liner time shifts on the input where the weight is the impulse response of the system and the communication channel. Application examples in analysis and detection demonstrate the advantages of our new results.
In this paper, we investigate design criteria and the performance of the space-frequency bit-interleaved coded modulation (SF-BICM) systems in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. To determine the key parameters that affect the performance of SF-BICM, we derive the pairwise error probability (PEP) in terms of the determinant of the matrix corresponding to any two codewords. We prove that the bit-interleavers do the function of distributing the nonzero bits uniformly such that two or more nonzero bits are seldom distributed into the symbols that are transmitted in the same frequency bin. This implies that the bit-interleavers transform an SF-BICM system into an equivalent 1-antenna system. Based on this, we present design criteria of SFBICM systems that maximizes the diversity order and the coding gain. Then, we analyze the performance of SF-BICM for the case of 2-transmit antennas and 2-multipaths by deriving a frame error rate (FER) bound. The derived bound is accurate and requires only the distance spectrum of the constituent codes of SF-BICM. Numerical results reveal that the bound is tight enough to estimate the performance of SF-BICM very accurately.

Filterbank multicarrier with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC-OQAM) is an attractive alternative to the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technique. In comparison with OFDM, the FBMC-OQAM signal has better spectral confinement and higher spectral efficiency and tolerance to synchronization errors, primarily due to per-subcarrier filtering using a frequency-time localized prototype filter. However, the filtering process introduces intrinsic interference among the symbols and complicates channel estimation (CE). An efficient way to improve the CE in FBMC-OQAM is using a technique known as windowed frequency domain averaging (FDA); however, it requires a priori knowledge of the window length parameter which is set based on the channel's frequency selectivity (FS). As the channel's FS is not fixed and not a priori known, we propose a k-nearest neighbor-based machine learning algorithm to classify the FS and decide on the FDA's window length. A comparative theoretical analysis of the mean-squared error (MSE) is performed to prove the proposed CE scheme's effectiveness, validated through extensive simulations. The adaptive CE scheme is shown to yield a reduction in CE-MSE and improved bit error rates compared with the popular preamble-based CE schemes for FBMC-OQAM, without a priori knowledge of channel's frequency selectivity.
In this thesis, a new channel estimation technique is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) over time varying channels. The channel estimation algorithm exploits the fact that the estimated channel impulse response (CIR) by using pilot signal is the average value of the CIR variation within an OFDM symbol period. With this fact, the CIR variation is simply estimated through lowpass interpolation of the CIRs of the adjacent OFDM symbols. For signal detection, a time domain equalizer is used in this thesis. Simulation results show that the proposed system improves the bit error rate (BER) over time varying channels.

In this paper, we propose improved maximum access delay time, noise variance, and power delay profile (PDP) estimation schemes for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system in multipath fading channels. To this end, we adopt the approximate maximum likelihood (ML) estimation strategy. For the first step, the log-likelihood function (LLF) of the received OFDM symbols is derived by utilizing only the cyclic redundancy induced by cyclic prefix (CP) without additional information. Then, the set of the initial path powers is sub-optimally obtained to maximize the derived LLF. In the second step, we can select a subset of the initial path power set, i.e. the maximum access delay time, so as to maximize the modified LLF. Through numerical simulations, the benefit of the proposed method is verified by comparison with the existing methods in terms of normalized mean square error, erroneous detection, and good detection probabilities.
Winter outerwear includes various clothes such as classical jackets/coats, padded jackets/coats, wind breakers, leather and fur jackets/coats. This research surveyed care-label instructions attached to 100 jackets/coats dropped off at five drycleaners in the Gyungin area. University students' perception and attitudes towards care labels and management of winter outerwear were examined using a questionnaire. Data collected from 230 respondents were analyzed by frequency analyses, t-tests, ANOVAs and Duncan tests with PASW 20.0. Half of the padding jackets/coats were labelled to be dry cleaned and dry cleaning was more excessively labelled than necessary. University students confirmed more care symbols than fiber compositions such as more at time of cleaning than at purchasing. Clothing-related major students understood care label symbols better than non-clothing major students. Consumers laundered some winter outerwear at home, even though they thought dry cleaning was a proper cleaning method. The appropriate cleaning method for padded jackets/coats is laundering; however, consumers who answered dry cleaning as an appropriate method were three times as those who answered washing, and those performed dry cleaning were two times as those who performed washing. Winter outerwear manufacturers should provide adequate and more specified care-information to consumers in order to maintain initial appearance and performance over longer periods.
In MC-CDMA systems effects of delay spread of the channel are reduced with increased symbol duration by simultaneously transmitting data symbols on the parallel subcarriers. However, the increased symbol duration causes the system to be more vulnerable to time selective fading. In other words, although MC-CDMA systems are robust against frequency selective fading in a multipath environment, they are sensitive to Doppler spread and hence inter-carrier interference is increased. In this paper, we investigate the effects of time selective fading characteristics of the mobile channel from the viewpoint of desired signal power to inter-carrier interference power ratio at the combiner output of the MC-CDMA receiver.
In this paper, we propose a number of blind equalization approaches for time-varying andmulti-path channels. The approaches employ cost reference particle filter (CRPF) as the symbol estimator, and additionally employ either least mean squares algorithm, recursive least squares algorithm, or $H{\infty}$ filter (HF) as a channel estimator such that they are jointly employed for the strategy of "Rao-Blackwellization," or equally called "mixture filtering." The novel feature of the proposed approaches is that the blind equalization is performed based on direct channel estimation with unknown noise statistics of the received signals and channel state system while the channel is not directly estimated in the conventional method, and the noise information if known in similar Kalman mixture filtering approach. Simulation results show that the proposed approaches estimate the transmitted symbols and time-varying channel very effectively, and outperform the previously proposed approach which requires the noise information in its application.
