In order to control systems which contain nonlinearities of uncertainties, control strategies must deal with the effects of them. Since most of control methods based on system mathematical models have been mainly developed focused on stability robustness against nonlinearities or uncertainties under the assumption that controlled systems are linear time invariant, they have certain amount of limitations to smartly improve the transient responses of systems disturbed by nonlinearities or uncertainties. In this paper, a nonlinear fuzzy PID control method is suggested which can stably improve the transient responses of systems disturbed by nonlinearities, as well as systems whose mathematical characteristics are not perfectly known. Although the derivation process is based on the design process similar to general fuzzy logic controller, resultant control law has analytical forms with time varying PID gains rather than linguistic forms, so that implementation using common-used versatile microprocessors cna be achieved easily and effectively in real-time control aspect.

This paper describes a current control of a single-phase PWM inverter. The proposed PWM inverter utilizes the instantaneous control method which is based on the real-time digital feedback control and the microprocessor-based deadbeat control. The deadbeat current controller is proposed to control the output current regardless of load component variations by the same method as voltage control. That is, in current control, with a very short sampling time and the successive feedback of the output current, the load current is mainly effected by the magnitude of load impedance rather than load component, the load current is mainly effected by the magnitude of load impedance rather than load component. Therefore, by treating the load as an impedance, the system's order is reduced and the instantaneous current control using the proposed deadeat controller is simplified.

In this paper, an efficient real-time control architecture for autonomous navigation of powered wheelchair is developed. Since an advanced intelligent wheelchair requires real-time performance, the control software architecture of powered wheelchair is developed under Linux real-time extension Real-time Application Interface (RTAI). A hierarchical control structure for autonomous navigation is designed and implemented using real-time processe and interrupts handling of sensory perception based on slanted surface LRF, emergency handling capability, and motor control with 0.1 msec sampling time. The performance of our powered wheelchair system with the implemented control architecture for autonomous navigation is verified via experiments in a corridor.
This paper is devoted to the passivity based control in bilateral teleoperation for varying time delay. Toimprove the stability and task performance, master and slave in bilateral teleoperation must be coupled via the network through which the force and velocity are communicated. However, time delay existing in the transmission channel is a long standing impediment to bilateral control and can destabilize the system, even if the system is stable without time delay, In this paper, we investigate how the varying time delay affects the advanced teleoperation stability and results in an out-of-control status. A new approach based on passivity control has been bilaterally designed for both the master and slave sites and the simulation result will verify that our approach is better and effective for passive bilateral teleoperation.
In networked control systems, time-varying delay of the transmitting signal is inevitable. If the transmission delay is longer than the fixed sampling time, the system will be unstable. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the method to predict the delay using logic-based fuzzy neural networks, and the predicted time delay will be used as a sampling time in the networked control systems. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, the delay data collected from the real system are used to train and test the logic-based fuzzy neural networks.

Step-by-step time integration methods are widely used for solving structural dynamics problem. One difficult yet critical choice an analyst must make is to decide an appropriate time step size. The choice of time step size has a significant effect on solution accuracy and computational expense. The objective of this research is to derive error estimate for newly developed time integration method and develop automatic time step size control algorithm for structural dynamics. A formula for computing error tolerance is derived based on desired period resolution. An automatic time step size control strategy is proposed based on a normalized local error estimate for the generalized-α method. Numerical examples demonstrate the developed strategy satisfies general design criteria for time step size control algorithm for dynamic problem.

A novel neural network model, termed the standard neural network model (SNNM), similar to the nominal model in linear robust control theory, is suggested to facilitate the synthesis of controllers for delayed (or non-delayed) nonlinear systems composed of neural networks. The model is composed of a linear dynamic system and a bounded static delayed (or non-delayed) nonlinear operator. Based on the global asymptotic stability analysis of SNNMs, Static state-feedback controller and dynamic output feedback controller are designed for the SNNMs to stabilize the closed-loop systems, respectively. The control design equations are shown to be a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which can be easily solved by various convex optimization algorithms to determine the control signals. Most neural-network-based nonlinear systems with time delays or without time delays can be transformed into the SNNMs for controller synthesis in a unified way. Two application examples are given where the SNNMs are employed to synthesize the feedback stabilizing controllers for an SISO nonlinear system modeled by the neural network, and for a chaotic neural network, respectively. Through these examples, it is demonstrated that the SNNM not only makes controller synthesis of neural-network-based systems much easier, but also provides a new approach to the synthesis of the controllers for the other type of nonlinear systems.

The goal of this paper is to developed a DSP based power analyzing and control system by 3-Dimensional (3-D) space current co-ordinates. A developed system is made up of 486-PC and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) board, Active Power Filter, Non-linear thyristor load, and Power analyzing and control program for Windows. Power is analyzed using signal processing techniques based on the correlation between voltage and current waveforms. Since power analysis algorithm is performed by DSP, power analysis is achieved in real-time even under highly dynamic nonlinear loading conditions. Combining control algorithm with power analysis algorithm is performed by DSP, power analysis is achieved in real-time even under highly dynamic nonlinear loading conditions. Combining control algorithm with power analysis algorithm, flexibility of the proposed system which has both power analysis mode and control mode, is greatly enhanced. Non-active power generated while speed of induction motor is controlled by modulating firing angle of thyristor converter, is compensated by Active Power Filter for verifying a developed system. Power analysis results, before/after compensation, are numerically obtained and evaluated. From these results, various graphic screens for time/frequency/3-D current co-ordinate system are displayed on PC. By real-time analysis of power using a developed system, power quality is evaluated, and compared with that of conventional current co-ordinate system. (author). refs., figs. tabs.

In this paper, we propose a new technique to the design and real-time control of an adaptive controller for robotic manipulator based on digital signal processors. The Texas Instruments DSPs(TMS320C80) chips are used in implementing real-time adaptive control algorithms to provide enhanced motion control performance for dual-arm robotic manipulators. In the proposed scheme, adaptation laws are derived from model reference adaptive control principle based on the improved Lyapunov second method. The proposed adaptive controller consists of an adaptive feed-forward and feedback controller and time-varying auxiliary controller elements. The proposed control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for real-time control. Moreover, this scheme does not require any accurate dynamic modeling, nor values of manipulator parameters and payload. Performance of the proposed adaptive controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a dual arm robot manipulator with eight joints. joint space and cartesian space.
