  • This paper tries to estimate Korea's import demand function for fisheries using cointegration analysis. The estimation function consists of one dependent variable-import quantity of fisheries(FTIW) and two independent variables-relative price(RP) between importable and domestic products and real income(GDP). As it has been empirically found out that almost all of time series of macro-variables such as GDP, price index are nonstationary, existing studies which ignore this fact need to be reexamined. Conventional econometric method can not analyze nonstationary time series in level. To perform the analysis, time series should be differenciated until stationarity is guaranteed. Unfortunately, the difference method removes the long run element of data, and so leads to difficulties of interpretation. But according to new developed econometric theory, cointegration approach could solve these problems. Therefore this paper proceeds the estimation on the basis of cointegration analysis, because the quartly variables from 1988 to 1997 used in the model is found out to be nonstationary. The estimation results show that all of the variables are statistically significant. Therefore Korea's import demand for fisheries has been strongly affected by the variation of real income and the relative price.

  • Because Block Pulse functions are used in a variety of fields such as the analysis and controller design of systems, it is necessary to find the more exact value of the Block Pulse series coefficients. This paper presents a method for the state estimation of the time-invariant linear systems via the improved estimation method for the Block Pulse coefficients by using the Simpson's rule. The proposed method using the Simpson's rule improve the accuracy of the Block Pulse coefficients.

  • In this paper, a passive telemetry RF capacitive humidity sensor system using a RLSE(Recursive Least Square Estimation) technique is proposed. To overcome these trouble problems such as a power limitation and a estimation complexity that the general passive telemetry sensor system including It chip has, the principle of inductive coupling was applied to the modeling of a passive telemetry RF capacitive humidity sensor system and its capacitance was estimatedd by the RLSE algorithm. Specially, by introducing the optimal forgetting factor, we showed that the accuracy of its estimation was improved even in the time varying system and also the convergence time was reduced.

  • Estimation of reverberant time is one of important factor for the calculation of absorption ration of absorption material. In general the digital filter bank has been used for the, estimation of decay curve of the sound pressure in a reverberant room. However at low frequency, it is not easy to get a good linear decay curve for the estimation of reverberant time. Now, wavelet transform is applied to this difficult task, a good result has been obtained at low frequency. The decay curve using wavelet filter bank is better than that using digital filter bank at low frequency. At higher frequency, both curves are similar.

  • The maximum entropy method is a well-known parametric estimation method of the power spectrum with high-resolution for short-time signals. Although a parametric estimation method for the bispectrum was proposed in recent years, it is not easy to estimate the bispectrum with high resolution for relatively short-time signals of which the total length is about 1000 data points. In this paper, a bispectrum estimation method is proposed to estimate the high-resolution bispectrum even for the relatively short-time signals.

  • This paper presents a method of hierarchical state estimation of the time-varying linear systems via Block-pulse function(BPF). When we estimate the state of the systems where noise is considered, it is very difficult to obtain the solutions because minimum error variance matrix having a form of matrix nonlinear differential equations is included in the filter gain calculation. Therefore, hierarchical approach is adapted to transpose matrix nonlinear differential equations to a sum of low order state space equation from and Block-pulse functions are used for solving each low order state space equation in the form of simple and recursive algebraic equation. We believe that presented methods are very attractive nd proper for state estimation of time-varying linear systems on account of its simplicity and computational convenience. • This study examines the wavelet transform for output-only system identification of ambient excited engineering structures with emphasis on its utilization for modal parameter estimation of high-order and closely-spaced modes. Sophisticated time-frequency resolution analysis has been carried out by employing the modified complex Morlet wavelet function for better adaption and flexibility of the time-frequency resolution to extract two closely-spaced frequencies. Furthermore, bandwidth refinement techniques such as a bandwidth resolution adaptation, a broadband filtering technique and a narrowband filtering one have been proposed in the study for the special treatments of high-order and closely-spaced modal parameter estimation. Ambient responses of a 5-story steel frame building have been used in the numerical example, using the proposed bandwidth refinement techniques, for estimating the modal parameters of the high-order and closely-spaced modes. The first five natural frequencies and damping ratios of the structure have been estimated; furthermore, the comparison among the various proposed bandwidth refinement techniques has also been examined.

  • This paper studies the state estimation problem for static neural networks with time-varying delay. Unlike other studies, the controller scheme, which involves time-varying sampling and uncertainties, is first employed to design the state estimator for delayed static neural networks. Based on Lyapunov functional approach and linear matrix inequality technique, the non-fragile sampled-data estimator is designed such that the resulting estimation error system is globally asymptotically stable with $H_{\infty}$ performance. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed results is demonstrated by a numerical example.

  • Channel estimation in OFDM systems is usually carried out in frequency domain based on the least-squares (LS) method and the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) method with known pilot symbols. The LS estimator has a merit of low complexity but may suffer from the noise because it does not consider any noise effect in obtaining its solution. To enhance the noise immunity of the LS estimator, we consider estimation noise in time domain. Residual noise existing at the estimated channel coefficients in time domain could be reduced by reasonable selection of a threshold value. To achieve this, we propose a channel-estimation method based on a time-domain threshold which is a standard deviation of noise obtained by wavelet decomposition. Computer simulation shows that the estimation performance of the proposed method approaches to that of the known-channel case in terms of bit-error rates after the Viterbi decoder in overall SNRs.
