  • Progress in the LCD industries has been very rapid. Therefore, their manufacturing lines require larger LCD glass-handling robots and more precise path control of the robots. In this paper, we present two practical advanced algorithms for high-precision path generation of an LCD glass-handling robot. One is high-precision path interpolation for continuous motion, which connects several single motions and is a reliable solution for a short robot cycle time. We demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can reduce path error by approximately 91% compared with existing algorithms without increasing cycle time. The second is real-time static deflection compensation, which can optimally compensate the static deflection of the handling robot without any additional sensors, measurement instruments or mechanical axes. This reduces vertical path error to approximately 60% of the existing system error. All of these algorithms have been commercialized and applied to a seventh-generation LCD glass-handling robot.

  • A ship handling simulator is popular means of preventing marine accidents caused by human error. It can also be used to train navigators. A real-time 3D visualization system, a component of a ship handling simulator, is an important component, as realistic and intuitive image generation play an essential role in improving the effects of education using ship handling simulators. This paper discusses the design of a new real-time 3D visualization system based on an open source 3D graphics engine as well as its implementation. The developed real-time 3D visualization system satisfies the operational requirements derived in terms of visualization functionalities, reuse of legacy graphic data, and interoperability with other systems constituting a ship handling simulator. This system has an architecture in which new functionalities are easily added.

  • This paper proposed PTP(Precision Time Protocol) management node-based time synchronization error detection and recovery system. The proposed system is to maintain the preciseness of time synchronization under time synchronization error situations on IEEE 1588-based network environment. To demonstrate the proposed time synchronization error detection and recovery system, PTP implemented EVM(Evaluation Module)-based experiments were performed. As a results of the experiments, it is shown that the proposed system effectively maintains the preciseness of time synchronization under time synchronization error situations.

  • A baggage handling system (BHS) in airport is an unified system for moving the passengers' baggage in designated time. Input baggage from the check-in counter travels to the baggage claim area or cargo handling terminal through this system. In particular, entryway BHS consists of conveyors, X-ray and sorters such as tilt-tray to send the baggage to departing airplane and it could have various problems for handling certain amount of baggage in restricted time such as baggage jamming at certain merge point. This causes systemic error such as delay of the time, omissions of the baggage and even breakdown of the equipment and inefficiency. Also the increasing maximum time of the baggage passing through the BHS could delay the flight schedule and finally decrease the service level. Thus, the algorithm for controlling the flow of the merge is essential to the system. The window reservation algorithm is the one of the most frequently used methods to control the merge configuration. Above all, the reserve location, so called reserve ahead point, that allocates the window is important for the performance of the algorithm. We propose the modified window reservation algorithm and the best reserve locations by changing the reserve ahead point in the induction conveyors. The effect of various reserve ahead points such as the capacity and utility of the system were analyzed and the most effective reserve ahead point combination was found. The total baggage processing time and the utilization of the tilt-tray are properly considered when choosing the optimal Reserve ahead point combination. In the layout of this study, the configuration of four conveyors merged into one tilt-tray is studied and simulation analysis is done by AutoMod(R), 3D simulation software. Through the simulation, the window reservation algorithm is effectively operated with the best combination of reserve ahead point which reduces the maximum baggage travel time.

  • Recently, as a result of the growing interest in modeling stationary processes with discrete marginal distributions, several models for integer valued time series have been proposed in the literature. One of these models is the integer-valued autoregressive (INAR) models. However, when modeling with integer-valued autoregressive processes, the distributional properties of forecasts have been not yet discovered due to the difficulty in handling the Steutal Van Ham thinning operator 'o' (Steutal and van Ham, 1979). In this study, we derive the mean squared error of h-step-ahead prediction from a Poisson INAR(1) process, reflecting the effect of the variability of parameter estimates in the prediction mean squared error.

  • This work presents an advanced and systematic approach to analytically design the optimal parameters of a two parameter second-order internal model control (IMC) filter that satisfies operational constraints on the output process, the manipulated variable as well as rate of change of the manipulated variable, for a first-order plus dead time (FOPDT) process. The IMC parameters are designed to minimize a control objective function composed of the weighted sum of the error between the process variable and the set point, and the rate of change of the manipulated variable, and to satisfy the desired constraints. The feasible region of the constrained IMC control parameters was graphically analyzed, as the process parameters and the constraints varied. The resulting constrained IMC control parameters were also used to find the corresponding industrial proportional-integral controller parameters of a Smith predictor structure.

  • The most important job in the container terminal area is to handle the cargo effectively in the limited time. To achieve this object, many strategies have been introduced and applied to. If we consider the automated container terminal, it is necessary that the cargo handling equipments are equipped with more intelligent control systems. From the middle of the 1990's, an automated rail-mounted gantry crane(RMGC) and rubber-tired gantry crane(RTG) have been developed and widely used to handle containers in the yards. Recently, in these cranes, the many equipments like CCD cameras and sensors are mounted to cope with the automated terminal environment. In this paper, we try to support the development of more intelligent automated cranes which make the cargo handling be performed effectively in the yards. For this plant, the modelling, tracking control, anti-sway system design, skew motion suppressing and complicated motion control and suppressing problems must be considered. Especially, in this paper, the system modelling and tracking control approach are discussed. And, we design the tracking control system incorporating an observer based on the 2DOF servo system design approach to obtain the desired state informations. In the case of observer design, a weighted $H_{\infty}$ error bound approach for a state estimator is considered. Based on an algebraic Riccati equation(inequality) approach, a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a full-order estimator which satisfies the weighted $H_{\infty}$ error bound is introduced. Where, the condition for existence of the estimator is denoted by a Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI) which gives an optimized solution and observer gain. Based on this result, we apply it to the tracking control system design for the transfer crane.

  • This paper describes a design method using an optimization technique to satisfy the longitudinal handling quality of high maneuverable jet aircraft. The dynamic inversion technique was applied to the target aircraft, and the control gain optimization satisfied the longitudinal short-period handling quality, however, the stability margin was not considered. If the stability margin is not satisfied, it is necessary to directly readjust the gains through trial and error methods for improvement. To improve this, an additional compensator and an optimization constraint were added to the control gain optimization procedure. In addition, the degree of handling quality satisfaction with the optimization result was reevaluated, and additional control evaluation criteria for the convergence of the time response and the steady state error that the flight performance requirement set as the optimization constraint cannot be reflected, and the results are described.

  • SpaceWire invented for on-board data handling in a spacecraft has Time-Code defined for time synchronization over SpaceWire network. Delay and jitter of the transmission of Time-Code caused when a Time-Code travels through a network are the main reasons of time synchronization error. This work proposes a scheme that can reduce the time synchronization error by using extended Time-Codes. The proposed scheme can remove both transmission jitter and transmission delay. The scheme will be validated in a simulation environment built with OMNeT++.

  • This paper describes development of Polarized Stereo Monitoring System (KAERI-PSM) and compares the remote handling performance of KAERI-PSM with that of other monitoring systems, electric shutter type stereo monitoring system and general TV monitoring system. Remote handling performance is evaluated by total time and error number on remote operating experiments. Four kinds of remote handling experiments are carried out through 1) directly 2) general TV 3) electric shutter type monitor, and 4) KAERI-PSM. In these experiments six employees are participated and PUMA robot with force-torque reflectional joystic is used. The result of experiments show that camera angle against object is significant factor in monitoring and stereo monitoring system give more performance benifits in terms of accuracy and speed of remote handling operation than general TV monitoring system. In comparision of the polarized and electric shutter type stereo monitoring system, both have similar accuracy and speed for remote handling operation, but the former is superior in image quality and stability of the performance.
