  • This paper presents a feeder waveguide array of slot array antennas for Direct Broadcasting from Satellite(DBS). The feed structure consists of a single waveguide placed on the same layer as radiating waveguide and is characterized by the unit divider, called a $\pi$-Junction. This K-function with an inductive wall splits part of the power into two branch waveguide through one coupling window, and can excite densely arrayed waveguide at equal phase and amplitude. The power dividing characteristics of a cascade of $\pi$ -functions are analyzed by Galerkin's method of moments. From the optimum simulation results based on the feeder waveguide using $\pi$ -Junction at 3.95GHz, we obtained the scattering matrices of the feeder divided power at 11.85CHz.

  • This paper will describe the optimal design of an induction motor for the propulsion of an electric railway. First, the design requirements are satisfied through the basic model, which is designed in a design process using the equivalent circuit. Then, Rotor slot and Airgap are determined by analysis and comparison of torque, torque ripple, efficiency, and power factor. In addition, Rotor slot shape is optimized by using the response surface method. Finally, through the results of equivalent circuit and FEA, the final model is found to satisfy the design requirements; its efficiency was far higher than that of the basic model.

  • This paper presents a coordinator-based TDMA reader protocol that can avoid the reader collision in a passive RFID system. In the proposed protocol, the coordinator can not only minimize the number of empty slots by efficiently allocating slots to readers incoming in Poisson distribution, but reduce latency time through the limited frame size. The proposed protocol can be implemented in either mobile or fixed mode through the slot structure to be described in the context. The simulation results show it works as suggested and the frame size limitation as well as the statistical distribution of incoming readers has a great impact on the overall slots and the average latency time.

  • This paper proposes a time slot allocation scheme for military patrol environments. This proposal comes from analysis of traffic properties in a military patrol environment. In the near future, robots are expected to explore enemy grounds and measure threat, taking the place of human patrol. In order to control such robots, control messages must be extremely accurate. One mistake from the control center could cause a tragedy. Thus, high reliability must be guaranteed. Another goal is to maintain a continual flow of multimedia data sent from patrol robots. That is, QoS (Quality of Service) must be guaranteed. In order to transmit data while fulfilling both attributes, the per-path based centralized TDMA slot allocation scheme is recommended. The control center allocates slots to robots allowing synchronization among robots. Slot allocation collisions can also be avoided. The proposed scheme was verified through the ns-3 simulator. The scheme showed a higher packet delivery ratio than the algorithm in comparison. It also performed with shorter delay time in the downlink traffic transmission scenario than the algorithm in comparison.

  • Statement of problem. Wear as a result of repeated closing/opening cycles may decrease the friction coefficient of screw head, threads, and other mating components and, consequently, resistance to opening gradually decreases. It may cause screw loosening, which is one of the most common failures in implant prosthesis. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes on the head and thread surface of the abutment screws after repeated closing and opening through the examination of tested screws in SEM(scanning electron microscope). Materials and methods. Five species of abutments were selected (3i-three, Avana-two) respectively by two pieces. The implant fixtures were perpendicularly mounted in liquid unsaturated polyesther(Epovia, Cray Valley Inc.) with dental surveyor. Each abutment was secured to the implant fixture by each abutment screw with recommended torque value using a digital torque controller. The abutment screws were repeatedly tightened and removed 20 times with a digital controller. FESEM (field emission scanning electron microscope, Netherland, Phillips co., model:XL 30 SFEG) was used to observe changes of each part caused by repeatedly closing/opening expeiment. First, the Photomicrographs of pre-test screws provided by each manufacturer were taken. The changes of each screw were investigated after every fifth closing and opening experiment with FESEM. Scaning electron microscope photomicrographs of each screw were taken four times. Results. As the number of closing and opening was increased, the wear or distortion of hexed or squared slot that contacted with the driver tip was more severely progressed. Wear or distortion of hexed slot was more severe than that of squared slot and it was more remarkable in the titanium screw than in the gold screw. All the tested screws showed that the width in the crest of their screw thread decreased gradually as the test was proceeded. Conclusions. Conclusively, we recommend the clinical use of gold screw, a periodic exchanges of abutment screws and avoiding repeated closing/opening unnecessarily. We also suggest a more careful manipulation of the abutment screw and screw-driver and using of abutment screw with an acute-angled slot design rather than an obtuse-angled one. Finally, it is suggested that the new slot design and the surface treatment for enduring wear or distortion should be devised.

  • In this paper, it is studied on wide radiating slot antenna's miniaturization for ultra wide-band(UWB) technologies and notch structure to prevent interference between UWB systems and existing wireless systems for using Wi-Fi service of IEEE standards 802.11 a/n. Proposed antenna that wide slot is decreased from $\lambda/2$ to $\lambda/4$ length of resonant frequency has decreased by 72 % compared with conventional antenna. And optimized T-shaped CPW-fed stub has satisfied UWB bandwidth for 3.0~11.8 GHz. Then, creating 2-order Hilbert curve slot line in the stub's patch area, 4.9~5.6 GHz that centered frequency is 5 GHz is eliminated. Finally, the designed antenna constructed on FR4-epoxy has $20{\times}15\;mm^2$ dimension. The measured results that are obtained return loss under -10 dB through 3.2~11.8 GHz without Wi-Fi bandwidth, a linear phase characteristic, a stable group delay, and omnidirectional radiation patterns are presented.

  • In WATM networks, in order to perform dynamic slot allocation required slots of mobile terminals are estimated based on DP (Dynamic Parameter) reflecting characteristics of traffic. In VBR (Variable Bit Rate) traffic, slot allocation is done at MT considering both time-dependent characteristics and QoS (Quality of Service) requirements. In this paper, DPs-buffer state information and buffer state change-are transmitted through in-band signaling. BS (Base Station) performs dynamic slot allocation considering traffic characteristics of each MT (Mobile Terminal), in other words, buffer state information informs the potentiality of 'buffer full state'to BS if MT buffer is over the specific threshold value and buffer state change notifies change in buffer state of incoming cells to MT. If buffer state information is equal to 'low (more than threshold)' and 'abrupt increase' it generates 'buffer full' state cell transmission delay or cell loss might occur. At this time BS should assign additional slots to MT, and then MT consumes cells in its buffer. In simulation, the proposed scheme shows better performance in cell delay and loss than EPSA (Estimation-Prorated Slot Assignment) in-band scheme.

  • In this paper, an algorithm, that provisions absolute differentiation of packet delays is proposed, simulated, and implemented with VHDL on XPC 860 CPU based test board with an objective for enhancing quality of service (QoS) in future packet networks. It features a scheme that compensates the deviation for prediction on the traffic to be arrived continuously. It predicts the traffic to be arrived at the beginning of a time slot and measures the actual arrived traffic at the end of the time slot and derives the difference between them. The deviation is utilized to the delay control operation for the next time slot to offset it. As it compensates the prediction error continuously, it shows superior adaptability to the bursty traffic as well as the exponential traffic. It is demonstrated through both simulation and the real traffic test on the board that the algorithm meets the quantitative delay bounds and shows superiority to the traffic fluctuation in comparison with the conventional non-adaptive mechanism.

  • Underwater acoustic sensor networks can be used disaster prevention and environmental monitoring systems in underwater environments. Because, the underwater environment is different from the ground, the long propagation delay, low transfer rates and limited bandwidth characteristics should be considered. In this, paper will propose the MAC protocol that allocates time slot into each node according to priority policy through the period of contention-free slot reservation in underwater acoustic sensor networks in order to avoid collision and minimize energy consumption waste. We perform mathematical analysis to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol with regard to the collision probability, the energy consumption by collision, throughput and channel utilization. We compare the proposed protocol with the conventional protocol, and the performance results show that the proposed protocol outperforms the conventional protocol.
