  • Both the propagation velocity and the direction of atmospheric waves are important factors for analyzing and forecasting meteo-tsunami. In this study, a total of 14 events of meteo-tsunami over 11 years (2006-2016) are selected through analyzing sea-level data observed from tidal stations along the west coast of the Korean peninsula. The propagation velocity and direction are calculated by tracing the atmospheric disturbance of each meteo-tsunami event predicted by the WRF model. Then, the Froude number is calculated using the propagation velocity of atmospheric waves and oceanic long waves from bathymetry data. To derive the critical condition for the occurrence of meteo-tsunami, supervised learning using a logistic regression algorithm is conducted. It is concluded that the threshold distance of meteo-tsunami occurrence, from a propagation direction, can be calculated by the amplitude of air-pressure tendency and the resonance factor, which are found using the Froude number. According to the critical condition, the distance increases logarithmically with the ratio of the amplitude of air-pressure tendency and the square of the resonance factor, and meteo-tsunami do not occur when the ratio is less than 5.11 hPa/10 min.

  • In order to analyze the healing effectiveness of rock salt cracks affected by the applied stresses and time, we used the ultrasonic technology to monitor the ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) variations for different initial stress-damaged rock salts during self-healing experiments. The self-healing experiments were to create different conditions to improve the microcracks closure or recrystallized, which the self-healing effect of damaged salt specimens were analyzed during the recovery period about 30 days. We found that: The ultrasonic pulse velocity of the damaged rock salts increases rapidly during the first 9 days recovery, and the values gradually increase to reach constant values after 30 days. The damaged value and the healed value were identified based on the variation of the wave velocity. The damaged values of the specimens that are subject to higher initial damage stress are still keeping in large after 30 days recovery under the same recovery condition It is interesting that the damage and the healing were not in the linear relationship, and there also existed a damage threshold for salt cracks healing ability. When the damage degree is less than the threshold, the self-healing ratio of rock salt is increased with the increase in damage degree. However, while the damage degree exceeds the threshold, the self-healing ratio is decreased with the increase in damage.

  • Objectives Despite considerable advances in technique, experience and skill, the precise place of surgery in the treatment of facial nerve injury remains uncertain. We designed a facial nerve crush injury model in rats and evaluated the recovery of crushed nerve which is the most common injury type of facial nerve using adenovirus vector mediated in vivo gene transfer of Brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF). Materials and methods In 48 Sprague Dawley rats, we made a facial nerve crush injury model to main trunk before the furcation, and injected a $10^{11}$pfu adenoviral BDNF in experimental group(BDNF adenoviral injection group; ad-BDNF) and $3{\mu}l$ saline in control group(Saline injection group; saline). After a period of regeneration from 10 to 40 days, nerve regeneration was evaluated with functioinal test (vibrissae and ocular movement), electrophysiologic study(threshold, peak voltage, conduction velocity) and histomorphometric study of axon density. Results Vibrissae and ocular movement, threshold and conduction velocity improved as time elapse in both group, however axon density was increased significantly only in experimental group. Functional test in 10 days and 20 days showed no difference between experimental group and control group. Vibrissae movement, threshold, conduction velocity and axon density in 30 days revealed that the regeneration in quality of experimental group was significantly superior to that of control group. Conclusion In general, there is tendency for nerve regeneration in experimental group (BDNF-adenovirus injection group) during 40 days, functional recovery was detected successfully after facial nerve crush in 30 days postoperatively.

  • In this study we propose an approach based on statistical method which use the whole of saccades instead of using a few points of saccades in the quantitative analyse saccades. We computed statistical parameters such as mean velocity, quadratic mean velocity, standard duration, skewness of saccades velocity, flattness factor of saccades velocity, and mean delay by considering eye velocity as a probability density function. The results abtained are the following as ; This parameters showed the same trend like that of the main sequence. They were not biased by the systematic errors due to the arbitrary threshold. They were also less sensitive to noise, which was tested through the model simulation. So they are expected to provide a more comprehensive quantitative description of the dynamic properties of saccade in the diagnostic field.

  • The Ground Moving Target Indication(GMTI) technique can detect the moving targets on land using its Doppler returns. Also, the GMTI system can work in night regardless of the weather condition because it is an active sensor that uses the electromagnetic waves as its source. In order to develop the GMTI system, Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) threshold optimization is important because the main performances like detection probability, false alarm rate and Minimum Detectable Velocity(MDV) are related deeply with CFAR threshold. These key variables are used to calculate CFAR threshold and then trade-off between the variables is performed. In this paper, CFAR threshold optimization procedures are introduced, and the optimization results are demonstrated.

  • This paper presents an image processing technique to get traffic information such as vehicle volume, velocity, and occupancy for measuring the traffic congestion rate. To obtain these information, two horizontal lines are previously set on the screen. A moving vehicle is detected using the gray level difference on each line, and also template matching method at night. Threshold values are determined by sampling pavement grey level, and updated dynamically to cope with the change of ambient light conditions. These technique is successfully used to calculate vehicle volume, occupancy, and velocity. This study can be applied to traffic signal control system for minimizing traffic congestion in urban areas.

  • The compressive tests under impact conditions were performed to establish a design guide for impact damage tolerance. The composition of layup was selected for the real cases of composite aircraft structure. The energy level of visible of visible damage threshold was determined as 7 Joules. It was found that the normalized bending stiffnesses in the direction of closely fixed boundary affected the area of damage. Graphite/epoxy used in the tests exhibited 60% reduction in compression strength at the energy level of visible damage threshold. Wet-conditioned specimens represented 9% reduction in residual compressive strength in comparison with room temperature ambient specimens. In this study, a design factor of 2.1 was proposed for the low velocity impact damage.

  • Recently developed TMCP steels, which were manufactured by controlled rolling followed by accelerated cooling process, were examined to study their characteristics and weldability. Accelerated cooling type TMCP steel's hardness test result exhibited high value on weld zone. On the contrary, base metal and HAZ exhibited comparatively the similar value. On this experiment result Softening of HAZ is not occurred. in the-heat affected zone, grain size repression be caused by chemical composition properties which a small quantity Al-Ti-B-N. Changing stress ratio near-threshold fatigue crack propagation experiments were carried out. According to this result, crack propagation velocity of the HAZ exhibited slower than the base metal and near-threshold value had increased at the HAZ. Finally accelerated cooling type TMCP steels were exhibited excellent mechanical properties in both strength and toughness.

  • The effects of tip voltage, deflection setpoint, and tip velocity on height of $SiO_2$ line drawn by local anodization on Si wafer using scanning probe microscope were investigated. No local anodization was detected at smaller than -3 V of tip voltage. The line height increased at rate of 0.47 nm/V when the tip voltage is stronger than -3 V at $1{\mu}m/s$ tip velocity. From deflection setpoint, mechanical force between tip and substrate could be calculated and the threshold farce was $12\sim18nN$. The height of anodized $SiO_2$ lines is independent of the magnitude of force above the threshold force. The line height decreased as increasing the tip velocity and limited to 0.7 nm at -5 V tip voltage.
