  • This paper proposes to increase the node energy efficiency, which rapidly drops during the transmission of L-TEEN (Layered Threshold sensitive Energy Efficient sensor Network protocol), using the method of DL-TEEN (Dual-hop Layered TEEN). By introducing dual-hop method in the data transmission, the proposed single-hop method for short-range transmission and multi-hop transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission was introduce. By introducing a partial multi-hop method in the data transmission, a single-hop method for short range transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission was introduces. In the proposed DL-TEEN, the energy consumption of cluster head for remote transmission reduces and increases the energy efficiency of sensor node by reducing the transmission distance and simplifying the transmission routine for short-range transmission. As compared the general L-TEEN, it was adapted to a wider sensor field.

  • Iodine-Induced Stress Corrosion Cracking (ISCC) properties of Zircaloy-4 and HANA4 developed in KAERI for the high burn-up nuclear fuel cladding were evaluated. To confirm the effect of final heat treatment on ISCC resistance of Zr-alloy, stress relieved and recrystallized specimens were prepared and tested. With the pre-cracked specimen at internal surface, ISCC crack propagation rates and threshold stress intensity factor ($K_{ISCC}$) based on the fracture mechanics were measured by internal pressurization test at $350^{\circ}C$ in iodine environment. $K_{ISCC}$ of Zircaloy-4 and HANA4 cladding were $3.3MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and $4.4MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively. Pitting corrosion at the crack surface was observed and it seemed that TG crack propagation was derived from the pitting.

  • Recent advances in energy harvesting (EH) technology have motivated the adoption of rechargeable mobile devices for communications. In this paper, we consider a point-to-point (P2P) wireless communication system in which an EH transmitter with a non-ideal rechargeable battery is required to send a given fixed number of bits to the receiver before they expire according to a preset delay constraint. Due to the possible energy loss in the storage process, the harvest-use-and-store (HUS) architecture is adopted. We characterize the properties of the optimal solutions, for additive white Gaussian channels (AWGNs) and then block-fading channels, that maximize the energy efficiency (i.e., battery residual) subject to a given rate requirement. Interestingly, it is shown that the optimal solution has a water-filling interpretation with double thresholds and that both thresholds are monotonic. Based on this, we investigate the optimal double-threshold based allocation policy and devise an algorithm to achieve the solution. Numerical results are provided to validate the theoretical analysis and to compare the optimal solutions with existing schemes.

  • In this paper, we investigate power allocation scheme and outage performance for a physical-layer network coding (PNC) relay based secondary user (SU) communication in cognitive multi-antenna relay networks (CMRNs), in which two secondary transceivers exchange their information via a multi-antenna relay using PNC protocol. We propose an optimal energy-efficient power allocation (OE-PA) scheme to minimize total energy consumption per bit under the sum rate constraint and interference power threshold (IPT) constraints. A closed-form solution for optimal allocation of transmit power among the SU nodes, as well as the outage probability of the cognitive relay system, are then derived analytically and confirmed by numerical results. Numerical simulations demonstrate the PNC protocol has superiority in energy efficiency performance over conventional direct transmission protocol and Four-Time-Slot (4TS) Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay protocol, and the proposed system has the optimal outage performance when the relay is located at the center of two secondary transceivers.

  • A Ti:Sapphire laser pumped by the HCP has been designed and fabricated to study the optimal pumping conditions for lasing. The fluorescence energy converter LD-490 has been used. The result showed that the threshold energy of Ti:Sapphire laser is 1.39 KJ and the best efficiency is $7.13{\times}10^{-3}$% at the concentration $1.0{times}10^{-3}$ Mol/l of LD-490 dye. However, the efficiencies were decreased with the decrease of dye concentrations. The maximum output energy was obtained at 50 Torr Ar pressure, when the input voltage was 15 kV. As a convert dye, BBQ, was added to LD-490 with the rate of 1:1, the output energy was increased, whereas the thereshold energy was decreased as 1.17 kJ.

  • In this paper, we consider a source node that operates over a time varying channel with energy harvesting capability. The goal of the source is to maximize the average number of successfully delivered packets per time slot. The source is able to choose whether to transmit a packet or defer the transmission in each time slot. The decision which is chosen by the source depends on the channel information available and the length of the energy queue. We formulate the problem of finding the optimal policy as a Markovian decision problem. We show some properties of the value function that represents the discounted number of successfully delivered packets per time slot. We prove that the optimal policy is a threshold type policy depending on the state of the channel and the length of the energy queue. We also derive an upper bound for the average number of packets per time slots successfully received by the destination. We show using numerical results that this bound is a tight bound on the performance of the optimal policy. And we consider the case of time varying channel but without channel state information (CSI). Then, we study the impact of channel time varying nature and the availability of CSI. In this case, we show that the optimal policy is a greedy policy. The performance of this greedy policy is also calculated.

  • Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) make use of low cost and energy constrained sensor nodes. Thus, reaching the successful execution of its tasks with low energy consumption is one of the most important issues. The limitation of existing hierarchical algorithms is that many times the data are transmitted to the opposite direction to the sink. In this paper, DDACM (Data Direction Aware Clustering Method) is proposed. In this method, the nearest node to the sink is elected as cluster head, and when its energy level reaches a threshold value, the cluster head is reelected. We also make a comparison with LEACH showing how this method can reduce the energy consumption minimizing the reverse direction data transmission.

  • The energy efficiency is a key design issue to improve the lifetime of the underwater sensor networks (UWSN) consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a small battery of limited energy resource. In this paper, we apply a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size to deploy the underwater sensor nodes for two-dimensional UWSN. Upon this setting, we propose an enhanced hybrid transmission method that forwards data packets in a mixed transmission way based on location dependent direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding. In order to select direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding, the proposed method applies the threshold annulus that is defined as the distance between the cluster head node and the base station (BS). Our simulation results show that the proposed method enhances the energy efficiency compared with the existing multi-hop forwarding methods and hybrid transmission methods

  • Reducing the interference to the licensed mobile users and obtaining the energy efficiency are key issues in cognitive heterogeneous networks. A corresponding rate loss constraint is proposed to be used for the sensing-based spectrum sharing (SBSS) model in cognitive heterogeneous networks in this paper. Resource allocation optimization strategy is designed for the maximum energy efficiency under the proposed interference constraint together with average transmission power constraint. An efficiency algorithm is studied to maximize energy efficiency due to the nonconvex optimal problem. Furthermore, the relationship between the proposed protection criterion and the conventional interference constraint strategy under imperfect sensing condition for the SBSS model is also investigated, and we found that the conventional interference threshold can be regarded as the upper bound of the maximum rate loss that the primary user could tolerate. Simulation results have shown the effectiveness of the proposed protection criterion overcome the conventional interference power constraint.

  • Iodine-induced stress corrosion cracking tests of Zircaloy-4 cladding were undertaken using the modified infernal pressurization method. The effects of iodine concentration and applied stress were studied. The critical iodine concentration for SCC was found to be about 0.2 mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 603$^{\circ}$K. The threshold stress was dependent on the test temperature and the mechanical properties of the specimen. The fracture surface showed that the crack propagated stepwise iron one grain to others until the material was unstable and then ruptured mechanically. The initial region showed the transgranular feature and the wedge-shaped cracks. As the crack proceeded, the transgranular and ductile-tearing mired feature appeared in the middle region.
