Phototaxis of Fish 6. Responce of Sea-bass to the White Lights (어류의 주광성에 관한 연구 6. 백색광에 대한 능성어의 반응)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the light intensity which induced maximum gathering rate and to observe the variation of the gathering rate both at daytime and night by using Sea-bass, Epinephelus septemfasciatus (Thunberg). An experimental tank (360 L$\times$50 W$\times$55H cm) was set up in a dark room. An illumination system was attached to the end of one side of the tank to control horizontal light intensity. Eight artificial light sources were prepared by combination of three with white light bulbs (10W, 60W, 100W) and eight filters. During the experiment water depth was maintained 50cm level in the tank. The tank was marked into six longitudinal sections each being 60cm long to observe the distribution of fish. The fish were acclimatized in dark condition for 50 minutes before the main experiment. Upon turning on the light, the number of fish in each section was counted 60 times every 30 seconds, and the gathering rate was obtained from the average number of fish in each section. The light intensity inducing maximum gathering rate was 24.13 lux (15.25~35.93 lux) at daytime and 0.41 lux (0.25~0.63 lux) at night. The variation of the gathering rate of fish in illumination time was great and did not show any definite pattern but fluctuated irregularly. Its different between daytime and night is remarkable.

  • The air-cooled passive decay heat removal system (APDHR) was proposed to provide the ultimate heat sink for non-LOCA accidents. The APDHR is a modified one of Passive Auxiliary Feed-water system (PAFS) installed in APR+. The PAFS has a heat exchanger in the Passive Condensate Cooling Tank (PCCT) and can remove decay heat for 8 h. After that, the heat transfer rate through the PAFS drastically decreases because the heat transfer condition changes from water to air. The APDHR with a vertical heat exchanger in PCCT will be able to remove the decay heat by air if it has sufficient natural convection in PCCT. We conducted the thermal-hydraulic simulation by the MARS code to investigate the behavior of the APR + selected as a reference plant for the simulation. The simulation contains two phases based on water depletion: the early phase and the late phase. In the early phase, the volume of water in PCCT was determined to avoid the water depletion in three days after shutdown. In the late phase, when the number of the HXs is greater than 4089 per PCCT, the MARS simulation confirmed the long-term cooling by air is possible under extended Station Blackout (SBO).

  • The depression of the external situation like the departure of WTO system and the plan of EEZ proclaim is forcing fishery into improving their fishing condition. By this international and domestic circumstance, development of the sea water cooling apparatus for fish hold storage is demanded sincerely. This study represents the thermal characteristics of the fish hold storage during transportation. The numerical analysis in this study is the finite volume method with the SIMPLE computational algorithm to study the seawater flow behavior in the fish hold storage. The computation were carried out with the variations of the circulating flow velocity and depth of fish hold storage. As the result of the three dimensional simulations, the mean temperature doesn't almost change by the circulating flow rate. find the mean temperature is suddenly changed by the ratio of depth of fish hold storage.

  • The proposed differential LC cross-coupled VCO is implemented in InGap/GaAs HBT process for an adaptive Global Positioning system(GPS) application. Two filtering capacitors are used at the base of output buffer amplifiers at the both sides of the core m order to improve phase noise characteristics. The VCO produced a phase noise of -133 dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset frequency from the carrier frequency of 1.489GHz and the second harmonic suppression is significantly suppresed up to -49dBc/Hz in simulation result. The three pairs of BC diodes are integrated m the tank circuit to increase the VCO Tunning range.

  • Spray visualization of a vaporizer fuel injection system of a micro turbo jet engine was experimentally studied. The fuel heating by combustion was simulated by the high pressure steam generator and combustor inlet air from the centrifugal compressor was simulated by compressed air stored in the high pressure air tank. Spray visualization was performed with single vaporizer, and then six vaporizers which are same number of micro turbojet engine were used. As a results, the spray characteristics of the vaporizer were understood with pressure difference of the combustor inlet air and the fuel supply pressure. Spray angles with three types of vaporizer configuration were measured. In the results, guide vane configuration has a wider spray angle than the straight tube and smooth curve tube with a swirler, so it is expected that the fuel will be effectively distributed inside the combustor flame tube.

A Study on the Auction Schemes of Fish Commodities in the Koheung Region (고흥지역 수산물 경매시장의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Why are auctions so prevalent in fisheries fields\ulcorner One answer is, perhaps, that fisheries products have no standard value. The price of any catch of fish (at least of fish destined for the fresh fish market) depends on the demand and supply conditions at a specific moment of time, influenced by prospective market developments and prices must be remade for each transaction. There are various auction schemes including written-bid method in Korea. It is difficult to make decision the application of auction selling in market distribution. One reason is the absence of adequate data on which to base firm statements. There is very little precise information about the relative volume handled by auction scheme as compared with other sales schemes Because of the paucity reliable data, one must depend largely on qualitative in attempting to above this problem. This paper is designed to examine which auction scheme is more efficient as a economic tool by introducing the three auctions, as samples, utilized in Koheung peninsula. Koheung coast with abundant fisheries resource, locates on the Middle-South part in Korea and has three auction firm operating by fisheries cooperatives. fur selling of dry fish included sea weed, live fish and fresh fish respectively, As a result, 1 found that there are three interesting auction schemes as follow : 1. More than one winners are selected as buyers. The highest bidder can at first get fishes he wants to buy, second winner can get surplus fishes after the highest bidder employes one's privilege with the highest pay, and next winner would be a buyer if fishes would be left in sequence after being sold with higher price. Every fisherman can sell one' s fishes with equal unit price if he delivery it to the winner within one day. Therefore, all the vendors feel they are equal members of fisheries cooperation. 2. Written-bid pricing on the cover of handy book. It is easy to write and to erase the figure more than on the small black board, and is convenient also to keep in the pocket. 3. Auctioning on the fixed platform with fixed fish tank is a very fast auction scheme in spite of short displaying time. Auctioneer presides bidding at one place on the fixed platform, instead of moving, vendors should carry a container of live fishes in the fish tank into showing table in front of would-be buyers and auctioneer. Although the applicability of the auction system to a marketing problem depends in part on subjective considerations by those making decision, basically it is a matter of comparative economic efficiency. In general, if the scheme maximizes returns in relation to the effort expanded by both buyers and sellers, it will be utilized. If it does not, a more efficiency may take place over a period of time, but, even more important, those making decisions may become aware of the potentialities of new schemes. Therefore, in order to applicate the three interesting auction schemes introduced in this paper to other fisheries market, it is necessary not only to analyze many other auction schemes but also to compare the economic efficiency those schemes utilizing in other fisheries market.

  • In this study, generation methods of oblique incident wave are newly proposed and examined using the fully non-linear numerical model with non-reflected wave generation system(LES-WASS-3D). In order to verify, free surface elevation and horizontal velocities are compared with $3^{rd}$ -order Stokes wave theory in 3-D oblique incident wave field. As a results, it is revealed that the numerical results by newly proposed technique are in good agreement with the theory.

Numerical assessment of seismic safety of liquid storage tanks and performance of base isolation system

  • Seismic isolation is a well-known method to mitigate the earthquake effects on structures by increasing their fundamental natural periods at the expense of larger displacements in the structural system. In this paper, the seismic response of isolated and fixed base vertical, cylindrical, liquid storage tanks is investigated using a Finite Element Model (FEM), taking into account fluid-structure interaction effects. Three vertical, cylindrical tanks with different ratios of height to radius (H/R = 2.6, 1.0 and 0.3) are numerically analyzed and the results of response-history analysis, including base shear, overturning moment and free surface displacement are reported for isolated and non-isolated tanks. Isolated tanks equipped by lead rubber bearings isolators and the bearing are modeled by using a non-linear spring in FEM model. It is observed that the seismic isolation of liquid storage tanks is quite effective and the response of isolated tanks is significantly influenced by the system parameters such as their fundamental frequencies and the aspect ratio of the tanks. However, the base isolation does not significantly affect the surface wave height and even it can causes adverse effects on the free surface sloshing motion.

The Effect on the Combustion and Emission Characteristics of HCNG Engine According to the High Purity Hydrogen Contents (고순도 수소함량에 따른 HCNG 연소특성 및 배출가스 영향 평가)

  • This investigation decribes the effect of the combustion and emission characteristics of HCNG engine according to the high purity hydrogen contents. The HCNG fuel was made by the mixture with a high purity hydrogen ($H_2$) and a natural gas. The test vehicle was applied to the bi-fuel (Gasoline and CNG) system and this system was modified from the fuel supply and fuel tank. In addition, the three premixed HCNG fuels with mixed rate of 10, 20 and 30% of hydrogen were used to maintain the safety. In order to analyze the combustion characteristics of HCNG and CNG, the fuel was injected in the combustor with constant volume. The exhaust emission from light duty vehicle with bi-fuel system was analyzed by a chassis dynamometer and emission analyzer. From these results, the reduction rate of NOx emission increased in the HCNG fuel and emission amount of THC and CO shows a similar level with CNG fuel. This study can be utilized the basic data for the development of a new business plans related with HCNG engines.

Control of Phythophthora capsici and Residual Characteristics by the Pesticides Tank-Mixed in Tomato Hydroponic Culture System (농약의 양액 탱크내 혼합처리에 의한 토마토 역병 방제 효과 및 잔류 특성)

  • To control effectively and safely Phytophthora root rot caused by Phytophthora capsici on tomato in hydroponic culture, tank-mixing method was considered with two pesticides, metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP and dimethomorph dithianon 38% WP. Forty days after transplanting of tomato seedlings, 4 mL of sporangia of P. capsici (about 25 sporangi/mL) per plot was inoculated around tomato plant roots, and at 5 days after inoculation, the pesticides tank-mixed at three dilution levels, 12,500, 25,000 and 50,000, were drenched 1, 2 or 3 times per plot on the culture cube every 15 days for metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP and every 10 days for dimethomorph dithianon 38% WP. During the drenching period, the residue levels of metalaxyl and dimethomorph in hydroponic culture solution were similar to the initial levels but the level of dithianon was drastically decreased from one day after tank-mixing. In tomato drenched with metalaxyl copper oxychloride 50% WP, metalaxyl was detected $0.02\sim0.04$ mg/kg in all diluted plots. Dimethomorph was detected $0.012\sim0.021$, $0.001\sim0.006$ and $0.001\sim0.003$ mg/kg in 12,500, 25,000 and 50,000 times diluted plots, respectively, while dithianon was detected 0.005, 0.003 mg/kg in 12,500 and 50,000 times diluted plots, respectively. The detection levels of three pesticides were far below compared with the levels of Korean MRLs. Incidences of Phytophthora root rot were not found in all the plots, but phytotoxic responses were recognized in the 12,500 times diluted plots of both pesticides. Based on the above results, the drenching of the culture solution tank-mixed with these pesticides could be recommended as a very safe and effective method to control Phytophthora root rot in tomato in hydroponic culture.
