MM PWM Scheme for High Performance and Harmonic Effects Minimization of VSI-IM Drive System (VSI-IM 구동시스템의 고동작 및 고주파영향 최소화를 위한 MM PWM 방식)

  • MM(multimode) PWM(pulse width modulation) Suitable for high performance and harmonic effects minimization of VSI (voltabge source invertetr)-IM (induction motor)drive system is proposed. The approximated optimal, suboptimal and optimal PWM are implemented in the low frequency range, while square wave operation is realized in the hibh frequency range. The pulse width Modulator is capable of generating control signals to a transistorized inverter operating at about 1KHz. All functions except digital comparison have been implemented in softyware making the scheme economical, flexible and reliable. Pulse width modulator is built and tested experimentally. In order to confirm the effectiveness and the reliability of the theoretical proposition, this scheme is applied to 1Hp, Three phase IM. As results, it is concluded that the scheme of MM PWM is superior to other conventional switching scheme through the discussions or analysis carried out on the items such as line-to-line voltage, current and spectrum of current harmonic components observed at the output terminal of inverter, noise level of motor.

  • This paper presents a new model predictive control method without the effect of a weighting factor in order to reduce common-mode voltage (CMV) for a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). By utilizing two active states with same dwell time during a sampling period instead of one state used in conventional method, the proposed method can reduce the CMV of VSI without the weighting factor. Simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed predictive control method with the aid of PSIM software.

  • The three-phase four-leg voltage source inverter (VSI) topology can be an interesting option for the three phase-four wire system. With an additional leg, this topology can achieve superior performance with unbalanced and/or nonlinear load. This paper proposes a new hybrid controller which combines PI controller and resonant controller in synchronous frame for three phase four leg inverter. The hybrid controller is simple in structure and easy to implement. The performance of proposed controller is verified by the experiments and compared with that of the conventional PI controller.

  • This paper is proposed new optimal PWM scheme is based on a defined linear relationship between the successive pulsewidths of the PWM pattern. The calculation of the pulsewidths in the new PWM scheme is caried out without referring to the equations of CW and MW. With this scheme the PWM pattern for microprocessor controlled inverters can be composed easily by obtaining the optimal increment in sucessive pulsiwidths of the pattern. Furthmore, the harmonic level at the output of PWM inverter are always very low because this PWM pattern is selected on the basis of minimum THD. Theis scheme is applied to 1(Hp), three phase induction motor, and compared with conventional regular PWM scheme. The results of calculations and experiments show that new optimal PWM scheme could provide an effective generalized approach for minimization of harmonics in the VSI-PWM inverter.

  • This paper proposes a modified $\alpha$ conduction mode for controlling the output voltage magnitude of three-phase square-wave VSIs with an R-L load. From the viewpoint of both power capacity and switching losses, three-phase square-wave inverters are now used in most high power systems. When the square-wave VSI is driven with $\alpha$ conduction mode to control the magnitude of output voltages, interval over than half period is operated with $180^{\circ}$ conduction mode and the other interval with $120^{\circ}$ conduction mode. In $120^{\circ}$ conduction mode operation, two output terminals are connected to DC supply and the third one remains open. The potential of this open terminal will depend on the load characteristics and is unpredictable except the case of pure resistive loads. To cope this problem, we propose the modified α conduction mode.

  • Single phase voltage source converter (VSC) is an important power electronic converter (PEC), including single-phase voltage source inverter (VSI), single-phase voltage source rectifier (VSR), single-phase active power filter (APF) and single-phase grid-connection inverter (GCI). As the fundamental part of large scale PECs, single-phase VSC has a wide range of applications. In the paper, as first, on the basis of the concept of the discontinuous pulse-width modulation (DPWM) for three-phase VSC, a new DPWM of single-phase VSR is presented by means of zero-sequence component injection. Then, the transformation from stationary frame (abc) to rotating frame (dq) is designed after reconstructing the other orthogonal current by means of one order all-pass filter. Finally, the presented DPWM based single-phase VSR is established analyzed and simulated by means of MATLAB/SIMULINK. In addition, the DPWMs presented by D. Grahame Holmes and Thomas Lipo are discussed and simulated in brief. Obviously, the presented DPWM can also be used for single-phase VSI, GCI and APF. The simulation results show the validation of the above modulation algorithm, and the DPWM based single-phase VSR has reduced power loss and increased efficiency.

  • This research suggested the new algorithm controlled by micro processor which is already stored by various PWM form of output voltage by using fundamental data of the carrier and signal. The determined PWM pattern is not concerned with the signal wave form and the new algorithm can obtain the desired pulse width by synchronous of carrier. The PWM wave can be controlled with real time by using extra hardware and digital software and to speed up program processing, the control signals to switch the power semi-conductor of three phase PWM inverter, simultaneously use the output signal by microprocessor and extra hardware, and control signal by software. In the end, this method was proved by applying to Three phase voltage source inverter.

Open and Short Circuit Switches Fault Detection of Voltage Source Inverter Using Spectrogram

  • In the last years, fault problem in power electronics has been more and more investigated both from theoretical and practical point of view. The fault problem can cause equipment failure, data and economical losses. And the analyze system require to ensure fault problem and also rectify failures. The current errors on these faults are applied for identified type of faults. This paper presents technique to detection and identification faults in three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) by using time-frequency distribution (TFD). TFD capable represent time frequency representation (TFR) in temporal and spectral information. Based on TFR, signal parameters are calculated such as instantaneous average current, instantaneous root mean square current, instantaneous fundamental root mean square current and, instantaneous total current waveform distortion. From on results, the detection of VSI faults could be determined based on characteristic of parameter estimation. And also concluded that the fault detection is capable of identifying the type of inverter fault and can reduce cost maintenance.

  • Phase Lacked Loop(PLL)은 분산전원을 계통연계시 동기설정을 위해 중요한 장비이다. 이러한 동기설정은 Point of Common Coupling(PCC)에서 계통 전압을 검출하여 크기와 위상을 동일하게 설정하여 전력변환장치에서 전력을 출력한다. 일반적으로 PCC에서 계통전압을 검출하였을 때 고조파, 상간불평형은 전력변환장치 출력 왜곡을 야기 시킨다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 출력왜곡을 감소시키기 위한 3상 PLL을 모델링하여, 그 제어 성능을 시뮬레이션을 통해 확인하였다.

  • Static power converters can be analyzed by means of available circuit simulation software packages such as PSPICE. This paper proposes the macro models developing technique for three-phase power converters using the transfer function approach. Also, these models are based on converter switching functions rather than actual circuit configuration. In this approach, VSI(Voltage Source Inverter) and CSI(Current Source Inverter) are simulated as multiport networks avoiding nonlinear macromodels of the power switches.
