Many themes have been studied for FMS problems. But most researches have focused on specific themes; Machine selection, Loading, Routing, Machine layout, etc. So many decision makers who want to introduce FMS to his factory, have many problems, because they do not know either what size of FMS should be introduced or what amount of money should be invested. The objective of this research is to help the decision makers who want to introduce FMS. This research consists of three major part, first, Machine selection, second, Loading, and third, Machine Layout. In the first part of the research, machines are selected with minimum cost satisfying the given demand of each part. In the second part, each operations with its required tools are allocated to those machines. In the third part the locations of each selected machines are determined. And dissimilarity coefficients between each pair of machines are calculated as the measure of distance. With above three steps, we have selected machines, allocated operations to those machines, and the layout configuration of those machines. And for each three steps, Mixed Integer Programming models are formulated. In order to solve the large problems and reduce the computer execution time, three heuristic algorithms are developed for the three mixed integer programming models.
In most cases, simulation of induction machines under dynamic conditions have been based on two-phase models using constant circuit parameters. Squirrel cage induction machines with double rotor bars which are made for high starting torgue have lower rotor bars of sufficient depth they cannot be accurately represented by a constant rotor resistance under all operating condition. In this paper, the circuit of three-phase symmetrical induction machines is represented in two-axis model by tensor. A method for simulating three-phase squirrel cage induction machines in a dynamic conditions is presented, and the current distribution in double rotor bars is calculated under dynamic conditions.

We consider the online scheduling problems of three and four machines under eligibility constraint. Respectively for the cases of three and four machines, we prove that AW algorithm has competitive ratios of $\frac{5}{2}$ and 3 which are shown to be optimal. Also, we show that the same results hold for the semi-online cases with prior knowledge of the total and the largest processing time.

Laundry has traditionally been regarded as one of the most demanding household chores, but the introduction of smart washing machines is changing this perception. Although smart washing machines have been on the market for several years and consumers' perceptions of washing machines have changed, little is known about consumers' perceptions of smart washing machines. The purpose of this study is to determine what users expect from smart washing machines. We conducted two focus group interviews with sixteen participants who had used smart home appliances to acquire qualitative data. Stimuli created by the interviewees were applied in the focus group interviews to collect more insightful data. We analyzed the data using the three-step method and QSR NVivo. Analysis revealed ten categories of predictive expectations, including seven utilitarian attributes (i.e., smart functionality, smart user interface, reliability, controllability, interactivity, functional value, and economic value) and three hedonic attributes (i.e., fashionable value, psychological value, and social value). The results of this study have implications for the development of smart washing machines that would satisfy consumers by taking user expectations into account.

This paper presents a post-processing algorithm for 5-axis machines with three rotary axes (3R-2L type). 5-axis machining needs the postprocessor for converting cutter location (CL) data to machine control (NC) data. The existing methods for post-processing use inverse kinematics equations from for-ward kinematics. However in case of 5-axis machines with three rotary axes, the inverse kinematics equations are not induced directly since the forward kinematics equations are non-linear. In order to get the joint values from the forward kinematics equations, previous algorithms use numerical method for the post-processing, which needs searching algorithms with computation time and may result in fail. This paper proposes a geometric method for the post-processing of 3 rotary type 5-axis machines. Our algorithm has three advantages: first, it does not need establishing forward kinematics equations. Second, it is reliable method that eliminates any numerical methods for the inverse kinematics, resulting in the exact solution. Finally, the proposed algorithm can also be applied to 2R-3L type of 5-axis machines.

In order to improve the printability for offset print in Korea, the experimental printing was performed with commercial press. The clue of this study is that the printing condition of the imported machines are not set properly for the Korean printing materials. Although almost all of the printing machines are imported, printing materials have to be supplied in Korea. So we need to study on the printability between Korean materials and imported machines. In spite of difficulties in experiments with commercial press, three newsprint machines and three commercial printing presses were used for this study over 5 years. As the results, the optimum range and printability coefficients were obtained.

This paper deals with the problem of scheduling jobs and rate-modifying activities on parallel machines. A rate-modifying activity is an activity that changes the production rate of equipment such as maintenance and readjustment. If a job is scheduled after the rate-modifying activity, then the processing time varies depending on the modifying rate of the activity. In this study, we extend the single machine problem to parallel machines problem and propose algorithms is to schedule the rate-modifying activities and jobs to minimize the makespan on parallel machines which is NP-hard. We propose a branch and bound algorithm with three lower bounds to solve medium size problems optimally. Also we develop three heuristics, Modified Longest Processing Time, Modified MULTIFIT and Modified COMBINE algorithms to solve large size problems. The test results show that branch and bound algorithm finds the optimal solution in a reasonable time for medium size problems (up to 15 jobs and 5 machines). For large size problem, Modified COMBINE and Modified MULTIFIT algorithms outperform Modified LPT algorithm in terms of solution quality.

Applications such as vibration isolation, gravity compensation, pick-and-place machines, etc., would benefit from (long-stroke) cylindrical/tubular permanent magnet (PM) actuators with integrated passive gravity compensation to minimize the power consumption. As an example, in component placing (pick-and-place) machines on printed circuit boards, passive devices allow the powerless counteraction of translator including nozzles or tooling bits. In these applications, an increasing demand is arising for high-speed actuation with high precision and bandwidth capability mainly due to the placement head being at the foundation of the motion chain, hence, a large mass of this device will result in high force/power requirements for the driving mechanism (i.e. an H-bridge with three linear permanent magnet motors placed in an H-configuration). This paper investigates a tubular actuator topology combined with passive gravity compensation. These two functionalities are separately introduced, where the combination is verified using comprehensive three dimensional (3D) finite element analyses.
This study was performed to investigate vibration generated from machines that were used at factories and construction works. Vibrations were measured at three points in a straight line based on distance from the vibration sources, and analyzed to assess the vibration bevels. The average vibration level of factory machines was 65.4dBV at 2m, and that of construction machines was 74.0dBV at 5m. Vibration attenuations was 4.0~8.2dBV by double distance. All such data were applied to gain coefficients of attenuation equations for predicting vibration level by distance from the vibration sources. Data recorded on tapes were analyzed to understand the characteristics of frequency because these characteristics are important factors to design a Plan for installing the vibration-Proof devices. Finally, considering results from these analysis, assessment, and prediction, the methods for reducing vibration generated from machines were discussed.

In this paper, a load balancing problem among operators is considered, when one or more machines can be assigned to an operator. The machines are grouped into two types and there are more than one machines in each group. The type of machine in which a job can be processed, is determined. However, an operator can handle both types of machine. The elementary operations of a job are classified into three classes : machine-controlled elements, operator-controlled elements and machine/operator- controlled elements. The objective is to balance the workloads among operators under the constraints of available machine-time and operator-time. A heuristic solution procedure is suggested for allocating jobs to machines and allocating machines to operators. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated with various data set.
