Oxide-based thin film transistors have been attempted as powerful candidates for driving circuits for active-matrix organic light-emitting diodes and transparent electronics. The oxide TFTs are based on the amorphous multi-component oxides involving zinc, indium, and/or tin elements as main cation sources. The current work employed RF sputtering in order to deposit zinc-tin oxide thin films applicable to transparent oxide thin film transistors. The deposited thin film was characterized and probed in terms of materials and devices. The physical/chemical characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction, Atomic Force Microscopy, Spectroscopic Ellipsometry, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The thin film transistors were fabricated using a bottom-gated structure where thermally-grown silicon oxide layers were applied as gate-dielectric materials. The inherent properties of oxide thin films are combined with the corresponding device performances with the aim to fabricating the multi-component oxide thin films being optimized towards transparent electronics.
Silicon-based thin film was prepared at room temperature by an electrochemical deposition method and a feasibility study was conducted for its use as an anode material in a rechargeable lithium battery. The growth of the electrodeposits was mainly concentrated on the surface defects of the Cu substrate while that growth was trivial on the defect-free surface region. Intentional formation of random defects on the substrate by chemical etching led to uniform formation of deposits throughout the surface. The morphology of the electrodeposits reflected first the roughened surface of the substrate, but it became flattened as the deposition time increased, due primarily to the concentration of reduction current on the convex region of the deposits. The electrodeposits proved to be amorphous and to contain chlorine and carbon, together with silicon, indicating that the electrolyte is captured in the deposits during the fabrication process. The silicon in the deposits readily reacted with lithium, but thick deposits resulted in significant reaction overvoltage. The charge efficiency of oxidation (lithiation) to reduction (delithiation) was higher in the relatively thick deposit. This abnormal behavior needs to clarified in view of the thickness dependence of the internal residual stress and the relaxation tendency of the reaction-induced stress due to the porous structure of the deposits and the deposit components other than silicon.

Ultra-thin silicon dioxides were grown on p-type(100) oriented silicon employing rapid thermal dry oxidation technique at the temperature range of 850∼1050 $^{\circ}C$. The growth rate of the ultra-thin film was fitted well with tile model which was proposed recently by da Silva & Stosic. The capacitance-voltage, current-voltage, characteristics were used to study the electrical properties of these thin oxides. The minimum interface state density around the midgap of the MOS capacitor having oxide thickness of 111.6 $\AA$ derived from the C-V curve was ranged from 6 to 10${\times}$10$^{10}$ /$\textrm{cm}^2$eV.

In Zone Melting Recrystallization(ZMR) of SOl structure, thin silicon films have been recrystallized by artificial control of beam intensity profile which was obtained by tilting of upper elliptical reflector. Temperature profiles and gradients near solidification interface were calculated by numerical simulation for analysis of asymmetric line heating effect. The larger the tilting angle of the upper reflector, the larger the degree of supercooling at liquid and the interdefect spacing in thin silicon films. Major defects were continuous subgrainboundaries. Isolated threading dislocations were observed in the case of the film having low defect density. We have found that the thin silicon films were recrystallized into (100) textured single crystals by cross-sectional TEM and thin film X-ray diffraction analysis.
The silicon thin film solar cells were fabricated by 13.56 MHz PECVD (Plasma-Enhanced Chemical-Vapor Deposition) and 60 MHz VHF PECVD (Very High-Frequency Plasma-Enhanced Chemical-Vapor Deposition). We focus on textured ZnO:Al films prepared by RF sputtering and post deposition wet chemical etching and studied the surface morphology and optical properties. These films were optimized the light scattering properties of the textured ZnO:Al after wet chemical etching. Finally, the textured ZnO:Al films were successfully applied as substrates for silicon thin films solar cells. The efficiency of tandem solar cells with $0.25 cm^2$ area was $11.8\%$ under $100mW/cm^2$ light intensity. The electrical properties of tandem solar cells were measured with solar simulator (AM 1.5, $100 mW/cm^2)$ and spectral response measurements.

Amorphous silicon (a-Si) films are used in a broad range of solar cell, flat panel display, and sensor. Because of the greater ease of deposition and lower processing temperature, thin films are widely used for thin film transistors (TFTs). However, they have lower stability under the exposure of visible light and because of their low field effect mobility ($\mu$$_{FE}$ ) , less than 1 c $m^2$/Vs, they require a driving IC in the external circuits. On the other hand, polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) thin films have superiority in $\mu$$_{FE}$ and optical stability in comparison to a-Si film. Many researches have been done to obtain high performance poly-Si because conventional methods such as excimer laser annealing, solid phase crystallization and metal induced crystallization have several difficulties to crystallize. In this paper, a new crystallization process using a molybdenum substrate has been proposed. As we use a flexible substrate, high temperature treatment and roll-to-roll process are possible. We have used a high temperature process above 75$0^{\circ}C$ to obtain poly-Si films on molybdenum substrates by a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) of the amorphous silicon (a-Si) layers. The properties of high temperature crystallized poly-Si studied, and poly-Si has been used for the fabrication of TFT. By this method, we are able to achieve high crystal volume fraction as well as high field effect mobility.

The oxides of group IV transition metals such as titanium, zirconium, hafnium have many important current and future application, including protective coatings, sensors and dielectric layers in thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) devices. Recently, group IV transition metal oxide films have been intensively investigated as replacements for SiO2. Due to high permittivities (k~14-25) compared with SiO2 (k~3.9), large band-gaps, large band offsets and high thermodynamic stability on silicon. Herein, we report the synthesis of new group IV transition metal complexes as useful precursors to deposit their oxide thin films using chemical vapor deposition technique. The complexes were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Newly synthesised compounds show high volatility and thermal stability, so we are trying to deposit metal oxide thin films using the complexes by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD).

Ultra-thin silicon nitride films were fabricated with ECR(Electron cyclotron Resonance) nitrogen plasma at room temperature. Film thickness was about 50$\AA$ after nitridation for 1min at microwave power of 1000W, RF power of 500W, and NS12T pressure of ${\times}10^{-3}$ torr. 50$\AA$ fo nitride film was grown within 1 min and no appreciable growth occured thereafter. Dielectric breakdown strength and leakage current density in Al/SiN/Si structure were measured to be about 7-11 MV/cm and ${\times}10^{-10}~5{\times}10^{-10}A/cm^{2}$, respectively. Observed linear relationship in 1n(J/E)-vs-E$^{1/2}$ and no polarity-dependence of the leakage current indicated that the Poole-Frenkel emission is mainly responsible for the conduction in this nitrided silicon films.
Highly stable thin-film transistor (TFT) pixel employing both low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) and amorphous silicon (a-Si) for active matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) is discussed. ELA (excimer laser annealing) LTPS-TFT pixel should compensate $I_{OLED}$ variation caused by the non-uniformity of LTPS-TFT due to the fluctuation of excimer laser energy and amorphous silicon TFT pixel is desired to suppress the decrease of $I_{OLED}$ induced by the degradation of a-Si TFT. We discuss various compensation schemes of both LTPS and a-Si TFT employing the voltage and the current programming.
