The objective of this study is to conduct a thermal-hydraulic analysis on the spent fuel pool and to evaluate a parametric effect for the thermal-hydraulic analysis of spent fuel pool. The selected parameters are the Reynolds Number and the gap flow through the oater gap between fuel cell and fuel bundle. The simplified flow network for a path of fuel cells is used to analyze the natural circulation phenomenon. In the flow network analysis, the pressure drop for each assembly from the entrance of the fuel rack to the exit of the fuel assembly is balanced by the driving head due to the density difference between the pool fluid and the average fluid in each spent fuel assembly. The governing equations ore developed using this relation. But, since the parameters(flow rate, pressure loss coefficient, decay heat, density)are coupled each other, iteration method is used to obtain the solution. For the analysis of the YGN 3&4 spent fuel rack, 12 channels are considered and the inputs such as decay heat and pressure loss coefficient are determined conservatively. The results show the thermal-hydraulic characteristics(void fraction, density, boiling height)of the YGN 3&4 spent fuel rack. There occurs small amount of boiling in the cells. Fuel cladding temperature is lower than 343.3$^{\circ}C$. The evaluation of parametric effect indicates that flow resistances by geometric effect are very sensitive to Reynolds number in the transition region and the gap flow is negligible because of the larger flow resistance in the gap flow path than in the fuel bundle.
Filtered containment venting system (FCVS) is one of the severe accident mitigation systems designed to release containment pressurization to maintain its integrity. The thermal-hydraulic behaviors in FCVSs are important since they affect the operation characteristics of the FCVS. In this study, a representative FCVS was modeled by RELAP5/Mod3.3 code, and the Station BlackOut (SBO) was chosen as an accident scenario. The thermal-hydraulic behaviors of an FCVS during long-term operation with two venting strategies (open-and-close strategy, open-and-non-close strategy) and the sensitivity analysis of important parameters were investigated. The results show that the FCVS can operate up to 250 h with a periodic open-and-close strategy during an SBO. Under the combined effects of steam condensation and water evaporation, the solution inventory in the FCVS increases during the venting phase and decreases during the intermission phase, showing a periodic pattern. Under this condition, the appropriate initial water level is 3-4 m; however, it should be adjusted according to the environment temperature. The FCVS can accommodate a decay heat power of 150-260 kW and may need to feed water for a higher decay heat power or drain water for a lower decay heat power during the late phase. The FCVS can function within an opening pressure range from 450 kPa to 500 kPa and a closing pressure range between 250 kPa and 350 kPa. When the open-and-non-close strategy is adopted, the solution inventory increases quickly in the early venting phase due to steam condensation and then decreases gradually due to the evaporation of water; drying-up may occur in the late venting phase. Decreasing the venting pipe diameter and increasing the initial water level can mitigate the evaporation of the scrubbing solution. These results are expected to provide useful references for the design and engineering application of FCVSs.
When a cold HPSI (High pressure Safety Injection) fluid associated with an overcooling transient, such as SGTR (Steam Generator Tube Rupture), MSLB (Main Steam Line Break) etc., enters the cold legs of a stagnated primary coolant loop, thermal stratification phenomena will arise due to incomplete mixing. If the stratified flow enters the downcomer of the reactor pressure vessel, severe thermal stresses are created in a radiation embrittled vessel wall by local overcooling. As general thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes cannot properly predict the thermal stratification phenomena, RG 1.154 requires that a detailed thermal-mixing analysis of PTS (pressurized Thermal Shock) evaluation be performed. Also. previous PTS studies have assumed that the thermal stratification phenomena generated in the stagnated loop side of a partially stagnated primary coolant loop are neutralized in the vessel downcomer by the strong flow from the unstagnated loop. On the basis of these reasons, this paper focuses on the development of a 3-dimensional thermal-mixing analysis model using PHOENICS code which can be applied to both partial and total loop stagnated cases. In addition, this paper verifies the fact that, for partial loop stagnated cases, the cold plume generated in the vessel downcomer due to the thermal stratification phenomena of the stagnated loop is almost neutralized by the strong flow of the unstagnated loop but is not fully eliminated.
In this study, a non-thermal plasma system was employed to simultaneously remove odorous compounds and organic sludge. The system consisted of two reactors; the first one was the non-thermal plasma reactor where ozone was produced by the plasma reaction and the ozone oxidized hydrogen sulfide, the model odorous compound, and then the ozone-laden gas stream was introduced to the second reactor where wasted sludge was disintegrated and solubilized by ozone oxidation. In this study, the gas retention time (GRT) and the hydraulic retention time (HRT) were changed in the two-reactor system, and the effects of GRT and HRT on reduction efficiencies of odor and sludge were determined. As the GRT increased, the ozone concentration increased resulting in an increasing efficiency of hydrogen sulfide removal. However, the overall ozone loading rate to the second sludge reactor was the same at any GRT, which resulted in an insignificant change in sludge reduction rate. When HRTs in the sludge reactor were 1, 2, 4 hours, the sludge reduction rates were approximately 30% during the four-hour operation, while the rate increased to 70% at the HRT of 6 hours. Nevertheless, at HRTs greater than 4 hours, the solubilization efficiency was not proportionally increased with increasing specific input energy, indicating that an appropriate sludge retention time needs to be applied to achieve effective solubilization efficiencies at a minimal power consumption for the non-thermal plasma reaction.

In the power plant facility which use soft coal as a power source the fan pitch blade control hydraulic actuator is used to control the inlet and outlet gas to regulate the internal pressure of the furnace and control the frequence. Sometimes malfunctions of this equipment lead to the decline of boiler thermal efficiency and unexpected power plant trip. In order to localize the fan pitch blade control hydraulic actuator specially for the 500MW large scale boiler, Analysis and modelling of the system is carried out mathematically. The responses of the system are examined by using matlab simulation fur the variation of the major parameters in view of reverse engineering. Consequently the validity of the established parameters are examined.

This paper presents the current state of knowledge on molten material relocation into the lower plenum. Consequences of movement of material to the lower head are considered with regardt to the potential for reactor pressure vessel failure from both thermal hydraulic and mechanical standpoints. The models are applied to evaluating various in-vessel retention strategies for the Korean Standard power plant (KSNPP) reactor The results are summarized in terms of thermal response of the reactor vessel from the very relevant severe accident management perspective.
A high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed using the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model for the lower plenum of the High-Temperature Test Facility (HTTF), a ¼ scale test facility of the modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor (MHTGR) managed by Oregon State University. In most next-generation nuclear reactors, thermal stress due to thermal striping is one of the risks to be curiously considered. This is also true for HTGRs, especially since the exhaust helium gas temperature is high. In order to evaluate these risks and performance, organizations in the United States led by the OECD NEA are conducting a thermal hydraulic code benchmark for HTGR, and the test facility used for this benchmark is HTTF. HTTF can perform experiments in both normal and accident situations and provide high-quality experimental data. However, it is difficult to provide sufficient data for benchmarking through experiments, and there is a problem with the reliability of CFD analysis results based on Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes to analyze thermal hydraulic behavior without verification. To solve this problem, high-fidelity 3-D CFD analysis was performed using the LES model for HTTF. It was also verified that the LES model can properly simulate this jet mixing phenomenon via a unit cell test that provides experimental information. As a result of CFD analysis, the lower the dependency of the sub-grid scale model, the closer to the actual analysis result. In the case of unit cell test CFD analysis and HTTF CFD analysis, the volume-averaged sub-grid scale model dependency was calculated to be 13.0% and 9.16%, respectively. As a result of HTTF analysis, quantitative data of the fluid inside the HTTF lower plenum was provided in this paper. As a result of qualitative analysis, the temperature was highest at the center of the lower plenum, while the temperature fluctuation was highest near the edge of the lower plenum wall. The power spectral density of temperature was analyzed via fast Fourier transform (FFT) for specific points on the center and side of the lower plenum. FFT results did not reveal specific frequency-dominant temperature fluctuations in the center part. It was confirmed that the temperature power spectral density (PSD) at the top increased from the center to the wake. The vortex was visualized using the well-known scalar Q-criterion, and as a result, the closer to the outlet duct, the greater the influence of the mainstream, so that the inflow jet vortex was dissipated and mixed at the top of the lower plenum. Additionally, FFT analysis was performed on the support structure near the corner of the lower plenum with large temperature fluctuations, and as a result, it was confirmed that the temperature fluctuation of the flow did not have a significant effect near the corner wall. In addition, the vortices generated from the lower plenum to the outlet duct were identified in this paper. It is considered that the quantitative and qualitative results presented in this paper will serve as reference data for the benchmark.
An optimal hydraulic section is critical for irrigated water conservancy in seasonal frozen ground due to a large proportion of water leakage, as investigated by in-situ surveys. This is highly correlated with the frost heave of underlain soils in cold season. This paper firstly derived a practical model for frost heave of clayey soils, with temperature dependent thermal indexes incorporating phase change effect. A model test carried out on clay was used to verify the rationality of the model. A novel approach for optimizing the cross-section of irrigation canals in cold regions was suggested with live updated geometry characterized by three unique geometric constraints including slope of canal, ratio of practical flow section to the optimal and lining thickness. Allowable frost heave deformation and tensile stress in canal lining are utilized as standard in computation iterating with geometry updating while the construction cost per unit length is regarded as the eventual target in optimization. A typical section along the Jinghui irrigation canal was selected to be optimized with the above requirements satisfied. Results prove that the optimized hydraulic section exhibits smaller frost heave deformation, lower tensile stress and lower construction cost.

The MARS code has been assessed for the prediction of onset of flow instability (OFI) in a vertical channel. For assessment, we built an experiment database that consists of experiments under various geometry and thermal-hydraulic condition. It covers pressure from 0.12 to 1.73 MPa; heat flux from 0.67 to 3.48 MW/m2; inlet sub-cooling from 39 to 166 ℃; hydraulic diameters between 2.37 and 6.45 mm of rectangular channels and pipes. It was shown that the MARS code can predict the OFI mass flux for pipes reasonably well. However, it could not predict the OFI in a rectangular channel well with a mean absolute percentage error of 8.77%. In the cases of rectangular channels, the error tends to depend on the hydraulic diameter. Because the OFI is directly related to the subcooled boiling in a flow channel, we suggest a modified subcooled boiling model for better prediction of OFI in a rectangular channel; the net vapor generation (NVG) model and the modified wall evaporation model were modified so that the effect of hydraulic diameter and heat flux can be accurately considered. The assessment of the modified model shows the prediction of OFI mass flux for rectangular channels is greatly improved.

The Wastewater of toilet paper mill recycling recovered milk carton was used as a raw material for this study. According to the actual mill conditions, hydraulic retention time was adjusted to 12 hours and F/M (Food/Micro-organism) ratio was adjusted to 0.23. Temperature of aeration basin was varied from 2$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$0^{\circ}C$. The change of Micro-organisms and removal efficiency of pollutant were investigated at the varied temperature of basin. Aeration basin using high thermal microbial inoculants showed more removal efficiency of SS, COD than aeration basin using conventional microbial inoculants at high temperature. Floc consolidation of aeration basin using high thermal microbial inoculants added sludge was better than that of sludge from aeration basin using conventional microbial inoculants.
