Manufacturing Fiber-Reinforced Composite Materials Based on PLA (Poly L-Lactide) Resin Using In-Situ Polymerization and Molecular Weight Measurement Using GPC (현장 중합을 이용한 PLA(Poly L-Lactide) 수지 기반 섬유 강화 복합 재료 제조 및 GPC를 이용한 분자량 측정)

  • The conventional FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) manufacturing process used thermoset resins for ease of molding but faced the issue of non-recyclability. To address these shortcomings, a new process utilizing thermal plastic resin was developed. However, due to the high viscosity of thermal plastic resin, problems such as fiber deformation and a reduced fiber volume fraction occurred during the high-temperature, high-pressure process. In this study, to overcome the limitations of the conventional process, fiber-reinforced composite materials were manufactured through in-situ polymerization using PLA (Poly L-Lactide) resin in the VA-RTM (Vacuum Assistance Resin Transfer Molding) process. The fiber volume of the produced specimens was calculated, and resin impregnation and porosity were confirmed through optical microscopy. Additionally, molecular weight analysis using GPC (Gel Permission Chromatography) demonstrated improvements over the conventional process and emphasized the essential requirement of temperature control.

  • Antithrombotic function of doenjang was investigated using thoroughly desalted aqueous extract. In the presence of the extract, thrombin suffered loss of its fibrin-clotting activity, whose extent increased in a dose-dependent manner. The active substance involved in thrombin inhibition showed a high thermal stability. Results of Sephadex G-25 permeation chromatography indicated that there were at least two soluble thrombin inhibitors in doenjang with different molecular sizes.

  • ${\gamma}-alumina$ membranes were prepared by sol-gel dip coating or pressurized coating of boehmite sols on slipcasted ${\gamma}-alumina$ support tubes. The particle size of sols synthesized via the modified Yoldas-method could be controlled below 5 mn according to the mole ratio of nitric acid/aluminumtri-sec-butoxide (0.07~1.0). The reproducible crack-free composite membranes were produced by the 2nd dip coating or the pressurized coating technique using very stable sols with the particle size of 45 nm. Nitrogen gas permeability through the top-layer in the composite membrane was about $70~55{\times}10^{-7}\;mol/m^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa$. The thermal stability of the top layer was proved to be good enough upto the heat-treatment temperature of $500^{\circ}C$.

  • A fluorinated polybenzimidazole (FPBI) was synthesized from 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) of tetraamine, 2,2-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane of aromatic biscarboxylic acid, and 4,4-sulfonyldibenzoic acid of aromatic biscarboxylic acid in polyphosphoric acid (PPA). A FPBI was easily cast and made into clear films. The structure of condensation polymers and corresponding membranes were analyzed using GPC (gel permeation chromatography), $^1H$-NMR ($^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance) and FT-IR (fourier transform infrared). TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) analysis showed that the prepared membranes were thermally stable, so that elevated temperature fuel cell operation would be possible. The proton conductivity of the FPBI membranes increased with increasing temperatures in the polymer. A FPBI membrane has a maximum ion conductivity of 45 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity.

  • Effect of twist-setting time, temperature and cylinder layer for the physical properties of the twist yarn were investigated by separated 9 layer from yarn cylinder. Obtained results were as follow. Shrinkage of the yarn in middle layer shows high value with heat-permeation and in inner's shows low value because of cylinder hardness. And then yarn thermal shrinkage in outer layers shows more or less high value because twist yarn in the outer layer sets more faster. Concerning to the difference on the yam physical properties among cylinder layers, the changes on physical properties shows significant differences from the 7th layer to the last one. Linear density, T.P.M and initial modulus decreases but snarl index increases.

  • A series of $H_3PO_4$-doped composite membranes based on poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA) and silica have been prepared by sol-gel process. The proton conductivity, as well as properties of swelling, methanol permeation, was measured in this study. The proton conductivity increased with the molar ratio of $H_3PO_4$ to silica. With the silica content increasing, swelling degree decreased and methanol permeability showed a slight increase. It suggested that the former was mainly determined by hydrophilicity of the membrane, while the latter was dominated by the interconnectivity of matrix. According to the value of on, the optimal conformations of these composite membranes were 60, 70, 80 wt.$\%$ of PS-x in membranes, where x were 1.5, 1.0, and 0.5, respectively. These composite membranes were thermal stability up to $200^{\circ}C$.

  • We synthesized three kinds of chromophores incorporating aromatic quinoline unit as a $\pi-conjugated$ bridge in order to prepare more thermally stable nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores than general stilbene unit. The NLO poly(methylmethacrylate) copolymer, polyimides, and polyester were successfully synthesized by these corresponding quinoline-based monomers. Their physical and optical properties were investigated by thermogravimetry, gel permeation chromatography, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, second harmonic generation (SHG) and electro-optic (EO) measurement. All the polymers exhibited better thermal stability,however their NLO activity was a little lower than that of general stilbene-based NLO polymers. Among three kinds of polymers, the PMMA copolymer with quinoline chromophores had the largest SHG coefficient d33 value of 27 pm/V (at 1.064 $\mu\textrm{m})$ and EO coefficient r33 value of 6.8 pm/V (at 1.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$).

  • In recent years, organometallic polymer containing silane and silole unit has been a topic of interest because of the wide range of optical, electrical and luminescent properties. In previous work, we synthesized functionalsilanebridged[1]ferrocenophane from the reaction of dimethyldichlorosilane[Me2SiCl2] and diphenyldichlorosilane[Ph2SiCl2] and dichloromethylvinylsilane[C3H6SiCl2] with ferrocene$[Fe({\eta}-C5H4)2]$ and n-BuLi. In this work, we have synthesized Poly(ferrocenylsilane) via the Thermal Ring-Opening Polymerization(ROP). characteristics of the poly(ferrocenylsilane) were investigated by gel permeation chromatography(GPC), 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy.

  • Copolymers with two different side groups, 2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy and p-chlorophenoxy groups, have been synthesized by reaction of poly(dichlorophosphazene) with their sodium salts, and characterized by elemental analysis, gel permeation chromatography, IR and NMR spectroscopies. The molecular weight measurement has shown that the weight average molecular weight, ${\bar{M}}_w$ of the copolymers are all above $10^6$ and their molecular weight distributions are monomodal and narrow (${\bar{M}}_w/{\bar{M}}_n<4$). Thermal properties of these copolymers measured by DSC and TGA exhibited to be intermediate between those of the two corresponding homopolymers.

  • Novel polysilamethylenosilanes (PSMS) were prepared by Wurtz type co-condensation of various mixtures of 2,4,4,6-tetrachloro-2,6-dimethyl-2,4,6-trisilahept ane (TSH) and dimethyldichlorosilane (D). When TSH was incorporated more than 25 mole%, PSMS polymers were soluble in common organic solvents probably due to the polycarbosilane linkage brought from TSH. The molecular weights of the polymer were measured by gel permeation chromatography and showed higher molecular weight with high TSH content. The thermal gravimetric residues increased as TSH contents increased. These properties suggested that PSMS polymers could be useful as ceramic precursors for silicon carbide.
