As technology advances at a rapid rate, innovations in regenerative medicine will eventually include the use of energy-based therapeutics, such as low intensity-pulsed ultrasound stimulation (LIPUs), pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation (PMFs), and low-level laser/light therapy (LLLt) or photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt). Among these treatments, LLLt/PBMt attracted significant attention by the turn of the century, as evidenced by the numerous publications compared to LIPUs and PMFs, particularly for augmented bone regeneration (ABR). This is a testament of how the maturation of technology and scientific knowledge leads to latent compounded applications, even when the value of a technique is reliant on empirical data. This article reviews some of the notable investigations using LLLt/PBMt for bone regeneration published in the past decade, focusing on how this type of therapy has been utilized together with the existing regenerative medicine landscape.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for professional education by investigating to learning styles and achievement goal of the first year students in the department of occupational therapy and physical therapy. Methods : 123 first year students of the department of occupational therapy and physical therapy filled out a questionnaire in Gyeongbuk and Kangwon Province. In this study, Kolb's Learning Styles and Elliot & Church's Achievement Goal were used, and to analyze, Pearson correlation, chi-square were used. Results : The results of the study were as follows. 'Accommodator' was the preferred learning type for students, while 'diverger' was not. Collage students differed from university students in learning styles. A mastery level was the preference in the academic goal types of the students. Male students received higher grades on performance approach goals than female and student of department of physical therapy received higher grades on performance avoidance goals than students in the department of occupational therapy. There is a coefficient of correlation between performance avoidance goal and converger learning type. Therefore, first year students in the department of occupational therapy were not differed from the department of physical therapy in academic achievement but collage students differed from university students in learning styles. Conclusion : From these results, we suggested some effective teaching/learning methods based on the mastery achievement goal. An educational approach is necessary for understanding of the students' individual learning styles and achievement goal characteristics are account for students' individual negative/positive characteristics.

Purpose : This study was conducted among 195 adults in their 20s. To analyze the impact of the slope types of the scapulae on the plantar surface of the foot, the average pressure (AP), the maximum pressure (MP), the average of local distribution values, and the average movement of the center of pressure (COP) of the different slope types of the scapulae were compared. Method : The anterior-posterior slopes of the scapulae were measured by comparing the slopes of the left and right sides of the scapulae based on the differences in the height and the slope of the coracoid process and the angulus inferior scapulae. Those whose left side of the scapulae had an anterior slope were categorized as type 1, and those whose right side of the scapulae had an anterior slope, as type 2. The average plantar pressure, the center of plantar pressure, the maximum plantar pressure, and local distribution values were analyzed using a plantar pressure analyzer of the FSA. Result : In terms of the AP of the left and right feet, there was no statistically significant difference both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet. The comparison results of the MP and the average of local distribution values of the two slope types of the scapulae showed that there was no statistically significant difference on the X-axis both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet, but that there was a large statistically significant difference on the Y-axis both in types 1 and 2. That is, the MP of the right foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of the right anterior slope type, and the MP of the left foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of right anterior slope type. Conclusion : This study can be used as fundamental data to predict differences in the location and size of the COP and changes in plantar pressure distribution depending on the slope types of the scapulae, and control the distribution for therapeutic purposes.
With the development of medical technology, interest in rehabilitation devices is increasing and various devices are being studied. In particular, devices for speech disorders such as hearing impairment and cleft palate are attracting attention. In general, the nasometer is used for patients with flaccid dysarthria and velopharyngeal incompetence(VPI). However, in the case of the conventional separator type nasometer, that has an acoustic feedback problem between the oral and nasal sounds. In recent, the mask type nasometer has been developed which is insensitive to acoustic feedback. But, still not popularized. In this paper, the nasometer characteristics of the conventional separation type and mask type are analyzed. Also, We were obtained clinical acoustic data from the 6 subjects and examined the significant differences in the structure of the separation type and mask type nasometer. Through experiments, it was confirmed that the measurement was about 3~15% higher in the mask type nasometer than the conventional nasometer having a separator type. Also, We was considered the necessity of nasometer signal processing for acoustic feedback reduction and nasalance calculation optimization.
Under the present occupational therapy 6 items of overall coverage objects of health insurance are being applied and among them, only 3 items including the simple therapy, complex therapy, and special therapy can be demanded in the hospital. The treatment for Activities of Daily Living(ADL), Oral Motor Exercise and Functional Electrical Stimulation(FES) is exempted from an issue of reduction object, because it was covered 100% by the person himself. The reason why there are a lot of reduction factors is attributed mainly to vagueness of criteria and lack of exact understanding between therapists of insurance-applied hospitals. The reduction factors are characterized to confine them to only special treatment which demands the highest insurance cost claimed and to be applied without consideration of treatment times or days of hospital treatment. Moreover, the 56.38%, rate of reduction results from its uniform application based on willful convenience of health insurance not on embodiment of criteria or characteristics of various type of patients.
Object: We evaluated the efficacy of chest physical therapy in pediatric patients with pneumonia. Method: Retrospective study was performed in 89 pneumonia patients admitted to pediatric unit. The subjects were divided into two groups: control group; treatment group. Control group included 42 patients who didn't receive chest physical therapy. Treatment group included 47 patients who received chest physical therapy. The chest physcial therapy employed were postural drainage, chest percussion, deep breathing training and enhancement of coughings. The efficacy was evaluated by x-ray outcome before discharge. Results: There were no significant difference in age, sex, type of pneumonia, and symptom duration between two groups. However the duration of fever after admission, duration of antibiotic use and hospital stay were longer in treatment group. In treatment group, longer the day to initiate chest physical therapy, longer the hospital stay. The final outcome was not different between groups. Conclusion: The results suggest that the referred patients for chest physical therapy tends to be of severe cases. Nevertheless, the result that the outcome was not different in two groups means that the chest physical therapy could be used as a effective treatment method in pediatric patient with pneumonia.
Objective: The most common type of cancer in women is breast cancer, and pain in the upper extremity and trunk is a discomfort experienced by more than half. Based on the evidence that manual therapy is effective for pain control in postoperative rehabilitation, this study aims to analyze the effects of manual therapy on upper extremity pain and function in patients after breast cancer surgery. Design: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, PEDro, and CINAHL databases until August 2021. We included randomized controlled trial evaluating pain and function in patients after breast cancer surgery. Qualitative analysis was performed using Cochrane's risk of bias tool, and quantitative analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4 to analyze post-intervention outcomes. Results: Four randomized controlled trials were selected to evaluate the effects of upper extremity pain and function in 133 patients who underwent manual therapy after breast cancer surgery. In the results of qualitative and quantitative analysis, the experimental group treated with manual therapy showed a significant improvement in pain compared to the control group (-0.62; 95% confidence interval (CI) -0.97 to -0.27). However, there was no significant improvement in upper extremity function (-0.09; 95% CI -0.43 to 0.25). Conclusions: Current evidence shows that manual therapy is effective for pain control in patients who complain of upper extremity pain after breast cancer surgery.
Background: Fibrostenosis of large airway due to tuberculosis is one of the most perplexing clinical problems not only because it can lead to respiratory failure but also because of difficulty in the management. No one technique, such as balloon dilatation or insertion of self expandable metallic stent, has proved totally satisfactory in the management of fibrostenosis. We evaluated the effect of laser therapy in patient with severe fibrostenosis due to tuberculosis. Method: We classified the fibrostenosis to three types by bronchoscopic finding - the diaphragm type: stenosed by fibrous diaphragm, sparing the tracheobronchial wall, the collapse type: stenosed by collapse of the wall due to destruction of the cartilage, and the combined type: stenosed by nonspecific inflammatory scar tissue within internal lumen with collapse of the wall. We have treated 10 patients complaining dyspnea due to with severe fibrostenosis of the diaphargm or the combined type using a neodymiumyttrium aluminum garnet(Nd-Y AG) laser through a flexible bronchoscopy. Results: Eight of the 10 cases improved after laser therapy and maintained during a follow up period of average 31.9 months. All of the cases undergoing laser therapy showed no serious complication to need the therapy. Conclusion: The results of our present study indicate that the Nd-YAG laser therapy is an effective and safe method for the management of selective tuberculous fibrostenosis.
The purpose of this study was to identify research that included the rhythmic auditory stimulation (RAS) technique and to compare this body of research within the field of music therapy with that in physical therapy. Forty-five studies were identified that were published from January 1999 through November 2018, and these were analyzed in terms of intervention procedure, type of rhythmic cueing, and therapeutic basis described by the researcher. While research in both fields used rhythmic cueing as the primary therapeutic agent, differences were found in the area targeted by training and specific type of rhythmic cueing used. Research conducted in the field of music therapy focused primarily on gait function, while research in the field of physical therapy tended to address gait-related physical issues, such as balance, muscle strength, and proprioceptive sensation as well as gait. While all of the identified studies from the field of music therapy used music for cueing, a metronome was used more often for cueing in physical therapy research. In terms of description of theoretical basis, theory of entrainment was more sufficiently described in music therapy research. These results indicate that while music therapy research maximized the role of various elements of music in intervening in gait function, physical therapy research addressed gait in relation to other physical functions. Considering that both aspects are essential for gait training, this study supports the need for a multidisciplinary approach to neurological rehabilitation with RAS.

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of type of exercise on neck disability, pain, and postural changes in subjects with forward head posture. METHODS: Two independent researchers conducted a search using KISS, RISS, DBpia (domestic), PubMed, OVID, and Science Direct (overseas) databases. We selected randomized controlled clinical trials by searching using the terms "forward head posture", "exercise therapy", and "therapeutic exercise". Studies published from 2007 to December 2017 were included. PEDro Scale was used to evaluate the quality of the selected studies, and meta-analysis was conducted using the CMA program. This review was registered at PROSPERO (CRD42018068633). RESULTS: Of the total 13768 studies searched, 17 were selected. Positive effects on neck disability were achieved with the base and biomechanical elements (ES=1.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] .49 to 2.75) as well as base, modulator, and biomechanical elements (ES=1.50, 95% [CI] .69 to 2.30). Neck pain improved with the base, modulator, and biomechanical elements (ES=1.96, 95% [CI] 1.08 to 2.82), while postural changes improved with biomechanical elements (ES=1.45, 95% [CI] .64 to 2.25). Additionally, type of exercise had a positive effect. CONCLUSION: The most effective exercises for neck disability are of the base and biomechanical elements, while the most effective types for neck pain are of the base, modulator, and biomechanical elements and the most effective exercise for posture is of biomechanical elements. Combined exercises targeting biomechanical elements were effective at treating disability, pain, and postural changes.
