  • Gastrectomy is the most effective method of treating gastric cancer, but it is commonly associated with weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, and the increased risk of malnutrition due to post-surgery complications, including gastric stasis, dumping syndrome, malabsorption, and maldigestion. Malnutrition is a risk factor for postoperative complications and poor prognosis. To prevent it and guarantee a quick recovery after surgery, continuous and individualized nutrition intervention should be performed both before surgery and postoperatively. The Department of Dietetics at Samsung Medical Center (SMC) performed nutritional status assessment before gastrectomy, initial nutritional assessment within 24 hours of admission, description of therapeutic diet after surgery, nutrition counselling before discharge, and nutritional status assessment and individual nutrition counselling after 1, 3, 6, and 12 months from surgery. This is a case report of a patient who underwent gastrectomy as well as intensive nutrition intervention in SMC.

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the degree of self-efficacy, transplant-related knowledge, and other factors affecting compliance with a therapeutic regimen for liver transplant recipients. Methods: Participants were 140 patients who had received a liver transplant at a tertiary hospital in Y City, Gyeongnam Province and made regular hospital visits as outpatients. A self-report questionnaire was used to collect the data and collection was done from December 4, 2017 to January 26, 2018. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, and t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients. Multiple linear regression was performed using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: Participants scored $113.29{\pm}20.95$ (out of 150) on self-efficacy, $16.38{\pm}3.62$ (out of 18) on transplant-related knowledge, and $148.30{\pm}31.06$ (out of 200) on compliance with the therapeutic regimen. Analyzed of correlations among participant's self-efficacy, transplant-related knowledge, and compliance with the therapeutic regimen showed a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and compliance with the therapeutic regimen (r=.64, p=.001), but no significant correlations were found between self-efficacy and transplant-related knowledge (r=-.01, p=.912) or between transplant-related knowledge and compliance with the therapeutic regimen (r=.06, p=.458). Multiple regression analysis showed that factors affecting compliance with the therapeutic regimen were state of re-transplantation (${\beta}=.17$, p=.016) and self-efficacy (${\beta}=.53$, p=.001). Conclusion: There is a need to apply a differentiated nursing intervention program considering the differences in patients' self-efficacy, transplant-related knowledge, and compliance with the therapeutic regimen.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the this study was to evaluate lifestyle intervention program for the treatment of the metabolic syndrome. Methods: Subjects of this study were 700 adults with metabolic syndrome who took health examinations in health promotion centers of Korea Association of Health Promotion between May 1 and June 30, 2006. Subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a comparison group. Participants in the experimental group received intensive 3-month lifestyle modification intervention and participants in the comparison group received minimal information on lifestyle modification. Pre test and Post test were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention program. Results: After the intensive intervention on lifestyle modification(healthy diet, physical activity, moderate drinking, stress management, and smoking cessation), the levels of blood pressure, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose and triglycerides were significantly reduced for those in experimental group(P<0.001). For those in comparison group, the levels of blood pressure(P<0.001), waist circumference(P<0.001), and triglycerides(P<0.01) were significantly reduced after the intervention. No change in the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were observed in both groups. After 3-month intervention, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was reduced to 35.7% in experimental group and 48.5% in comparison group. Conclusion: This study has demonstrated the efficacy of therapeutic lifestyle intervention for the management of metabolic syndrome.

  • Purpose: This study was to analyze the trend of research on intervention for patients with metabolic syndrome. Method: Using Pubmed, Medline, and CINAHL search engines, a randomized controlled trial(RCT) researching titles such as 'metabolic syndrome', 'intervention', 'lifestyle modification', or 'community-based' were collected. A total of 16 researches were analyzed based on the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program - Adult Treatment Panel(NCEP-ATP III). Results: 1) The total period of the intervention was from 12 to 24 weeks, the frequency was 3 to 5 times per week, and the duration of each session was from 45 to 60 minutes. The types of intervention included exercise, diet, and medication. Among these types, diet was performed most frequently. 2) The outcomes of the intervention was measured with physical aspects such as anthropometric measures, body composition, or biological markers. No studies have evaluated psychosocial outcomes such as quality of life. 3) In terms of effectiveness of the intervention, anthropometric indicators, body composition, or serological markers showed positive effects, whereas results on endothelial or urine indicators were inconsistent. Conclusion: Methodological research developing comprehensive therapeutic lifestyle modification programs and intervention studies are needed for patients with metabolic syndrome. In addition, effects should be evaluated with multidimensional perspectives.

To compare the effects of interventions, threshold of cervical tenderness and depression level were measured before and after the each intervention and also measured at follow-up. Results: Painthreshold of left trapezius showed a significant difference between two groups at three points. It increased 19.71% in the experimental group after the intervention compared to before the intervention. At follow-up it also increased 20.06% in the experimental group. Pain threshold of right trapezius showed a significant difference at three points. It increased 18.35% in the experimental group after the intervention compared to before the intervention. At follow-up it also increased 15.93% in the experimental group. According to the result interaction between groups and measurement time in both side of trapezius was valid. Depression level showed significant difference in the experimental group between three points. It decreased 18.07% after the intervention compared to before the intervention and decreased 15.21% at follow-up. According to the result interaction between groups and measurement time in depression level was valid. • The purpose of this study was to find a therapeutic intervention for a couple in the pre-divorce stage. We used data from the case study to examine the factors related to marital conflict and enhancements related to the family of origin. Our sample was the couple in pre-divorce stage who has been married for 3 years. The therapeutic intervention methods used were taken from Positive Psychology, Family Systems Theory, Communication Theory, and Solution-Focused Therapy. We counseled the couple once a week for 10 sessions from $5^{th}$ October to $7^{th}$ December in 2010. Our objective was to give a positive perspective on the couple who was in the pre-divorce stage. We also provided clear-cut, practical techniques for responding productively to inappropriate expressions of anger. The couple acquired strategies to make their relationship work more effectively. Finally, the couple set their family goals for adjustment instead of divorce.
