  • The main object of this study are to investigate an effect of the characteristics of materials and to seize the behavior of fatigue failure of asphalt pavement with the results of laboratory tests for asphalt mixtures. In order to prove the practical application of applied methods, the relationships between temperature, depth of asphalt layer, elastic modulus and the number of fatigue failure by the results of elastic theory and fatigue failure envelope are also considered.

  • The enthalpies of transfer, $\Delta H_t^\theta$, of urea from water to aqueous ethanol, EtOH, propan-1-ol, PrOH, and acetonitrile, MeCN, are reported and analysed in terms of the new solvation theory. The analyses show that the solvation of urea is random in the considered solvent mixtures. It is also found that urea interact more strongly with EtOH or PrOH than water.

  • In this study sodium chloride solution is employed for chemicals, and several cylindrical triaxial tests are performed on the sand-bentonite mixtures saturated with sodium chloride solution. Deformation(elastic modulus, E) and strength(cohesion, c', and angle of friction, f') parameters are obtained from the triaxial tests as functions of confining pressure and sodium chloride solution concentrations. The results here indicate an increase in the value of effective cohesion with increase in the concentration of NaCl solution, which can be explained by using the Gouy-Chapman model. The value of the effective angle of shearing resistance does not show significant change with the increase in concentration of NaCl solution. The Young's modulus also increases with the increase in concentration of NaCl solution.

  • Tungsten and Tungsten Nitride thin films deposited by RF and DC sputtering and the resistivity of these films was measured. We deposited tungsten and tungsten nitride films by RF and DC sputtering at various conditions and derived equations that determines the resistivity and sheet resistivity by stabilizing the basic theory. We investigated properties of the resistivity and sheet resistivity of theme films under various conditions like temperature of substrate, flow rate of the argon gas and content of nitrogen from nitrogen-argon mixtures

  • The study was investigated to confirm the morphology of crystal from xonotlite to wollastonite at elevated temperature by electron microscopy. Mixtures of slaked lime and powdered quartz with plenty water were oscillated continuously in an autoclave under the pressure of 25kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 8 hours to obtain well crystallized xonotlite. This milky slurry consisting of xonotlite was gained and dried in oven at 11$0^{\circ}C$. Examination of the electron micrograhs showed the xonotlite to be developed thin lath-like crystals and to be formed aggregate as chestnut bur. Details of the morphology suggest that the heat-treated xonotlite up to 100$0^{\circ}C$ splited and deformed slightly in agreement with the topotaxial transformation theory of xonotlite to wollastonite. The molded material endured in good shape under 120$0^{\circ}C$ except a little shrinkage.

  • A molecular-thermodynamic model to describe the salt-induced protein precipitation is developed based on the perturbation theory. We employed the modified perturbed hard-sphere-chain (PHSC) equation of state for copolymer mixtures to take into account the pre-aggregation effect among protein particles. Hypothetical pressure-composition diagrams are computed with various size differences and salt concentrations. The precipitation behaviors are also studied for various types of pre-aggregation effect for the given systems.

  • The modified statistical-mechanical theory for dense fluid mixtures of rigid spheres has been applied to rigid sphere fluids in the nonoverlapping pore model. The resulting expressions for the partition coefficient and diffusivity illustrate the influence of steric hindrance on the thermodynamic and transport properties in such systems. The open membrane model without the size-exclusion and shielding effects shows considerable overestimation of the diffusion flux when the effective mean pore radii of the order of $20{\AA}$ or less are involved. Theoretical predictions investigated here were also compared with experimental data for hydrogen gases in inorganic porous membranes and it was observed a qualitative agreement in the low pressure limit.

  • In the present work, the two back stress kinematic hardening models are proposed by combining Armstrong-Frederick, Phillips and Ziegler's hardening rules. Simple combination of hardening rules using simple rule of mixtures results in various evolutions of the kinematic hardening parameter. Using the combined hardening models the ultimate back stress fur the present models is also derived. The stress rate is co-rotated with respect to the spin of substructure due to the assumption of kinematic hardening rule in finite deformation regime. The work piece under consideration is assumed to consist of the elastic and the rigid plastic deformation zone. Then, the J2 deformation theory is facilitated to characterize the plastic deformation behavior under various loading conditions. The plastic deformation localization behaviors strongly depend on the constitutive description namely back stress evolution and its hardening parameters. Then, the analysis for Swift's effects under the fixed boundaries in axial directions is carried out using simple shear deformation.

  • The influence of aerated oil on high-speed journal bearing Is examined by thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory to lubrication with mixtures of a Newtonian liquid and an ideal gas. For this purpose, analytical models for viscosity and density of aerated oil in fluid-film bearing are applied. Convection to the walls, mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil, and some degree of journal misalignment are considered. The results show that deliberate oil aeration can increase the load capacity of high-speed plain Journal bearing. And the load capacity is increased more by oil aeration under the conditions of shaft misalignment and higher speed.
