Rule-Based Fuzzy-Neural Networks Using the Identification Algorithm of the GA Hybrid Scheme

  • This paper introduces an identification method for nonlinear models in the form of rule-based Fuzzy-Neural Networks (FNN). In this study, the development of the rule-based fuzzy neural networks focuses on the technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. The FNN modeling and identification environment realizes parameter identification through synergistic usage of clustering techniques, genetic optimization and a complex search method. We use a HCM (Hard C-Means) clustering algorithm to determine initial apexes of the membership functions of the information granules used in this fuzzy model. The parameters such as apexes of membership functions, learning rates, and momentum coefficients are then adjusted using the identification algorithm of a GA hybrid scheme. The proposed GA hybrid scheme effectively combines the GA with the improved com-plex method to guarantee both global optimization and local convergence. An aggregate objective function (performance index) with a weighting factor is introduced to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization of the model. According to the selection and adjustment of the weighting factor of this objective function, we reveal how to design a model having sound approximation and generalization abilities. The proposed model is experimented with using several time series data (gas furnace, sewage treatment process, and NOx emission process data from gas turbine power plants).

Color Saturation Improvement using the Maximum Color Difference Table (최대색차신호 표를 이용한 컬러 채도 향상)

  • In this paper, we propose a new color image enhancement method to improve the color saturation as well as luminance contrast in the YCbCr color space. The proposed method uses the maximum color difference table to compensate the perceived saturation changes due to luminance contrast changes. To improve the color saturation, the method first calculates the weighting factor by using the maximum color difference table and then multiplies the weighting factor to the input color difference signals. In this step, it maps color difference signals to proper color region to prevent the color distortion by considering the correlation of color saturations depending on the luminance and hue. The experimental results show that our method effectively improves color saturation compared to the conventional methods.

Optimized LCL filter Design Method of Utility Interactive Inverter (계통연계형 인버터의 LCL필터 최적 설계기법)

  • The conventional LCL filter design method of the utility interactive inverter considers only harmonics attenuation of the current injected to the grid. However, in case of utility-interactive inverter with critical load the voltage quality of the critical load should also be considered for LCL filter design. Also, considering cost and volume of LCL filters. it is important to have minimum values of inductance and capacitance as far as the harmonic standards are satisfied. In this paper a LCL filter design method is proposed to satisfy not only the harmonic standards of the grid current during the grid-connected mode but the voltage quality of the critical load during grid-connected mode and stand-alone mode. With the proposed method optimized values of LCL filters could be obtained by applying weighting factor to voltage ripple across the critical load, inductor volume, amount of reactive current and system bandwidth.

  • The purpose of the this paper is to make decision of the maintenance priority of power distribution system using Time-Varying Failure Rate(TVFR) with interruption cost. This paper emphasizes the practical use of the reliability indices and interruption cost. To make a decision of maintenance priority on power distribution system equipment, the quantification of the reliability level should be represented as a cost. In this paper, the TVFR of power distribution system equipment applied in this paper utilizes analytic method to use the historical data of KEPCO. From this result, the sensitivity analysis on TVFR of equipment was done for the priority, which represents that high priority of the equipment has more effect on system reliability, such as SAIDI or SAIFI, than other equipment. By this priority, the investment plan is established. In this result, customer interruption cost(CIC) could be extracted, and CIC is used as weighting factor to consider a importance of customer. After that, the result calculated the proposal method in this paper is compared with other priority method, such as lifetime, failure rate or only sensitivity.

Shape Design of Heat Transfer Surfaces with Angled Ribs Using Numerical Optimization Techniques (경사진 사각리브가 부착된 열전달면의 수치최적화기법을 이용한 형상설계)

  • A numerical optimization procedure for the shape of three-dimensional channel with angled ribs mounted on one of the walls to enhance turbulent heat transfer is presented. The response surface method is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes analyses of flow and heat transfer. SST turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. Computational results for local heat transfer rate show reasonable agreements with experimental data. The pitch-to-height ratio of the rib and rib height-to-channel height ratio are set to be 9.0 and 0.1, respectively, and width-to-rib height ratio and attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat-transfer and friction-loss related terms with weighting factor. Full-factorial experimental design method is used to determine the data points. Optimum shapes of the channel have been obtained in the range from 0.0 to 0.1 of weighting factor.

Shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. Numerical results fur heat transfer rate show good agreements with experimental data. four dimensionless variables such as, rib pitch-to-rib height ratio, rib height-to-channel height ratio, streamwise rib distance on opposite wall to rib pitch ratio, and the attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat-transfer and friction-loss related coefficients with a weighting factor. D-optimal method is used to determine the training points as a means of design of experiment. Sensitivity of the objective parameters to each design variable has been analyzed. And, optimal values of the design variables have been obtained in a range of the weighting factor.

The response surface based optimization is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Wavier-stoked analysis. Shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. Computational results for average heat transfer rate show good agreements with experimental data. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer and friction loss-related terms with a weighting factor. Three dimensionless variables such as, rib pitch-to-rib height ratio, rib height-to-channel height ratio, and the attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. Nineteen training points obtained by D-optimal designs for three design variables construct a reliable response surface. In the sensitivity analysis, it is found that the objective function is most sensitive to the ratio of rib height-to-channel height ratio. And, optimal values of design variables have been obtained in a range of the weighting factor.

  • This paper proposed the friction model using Preisach algorithm with neural network based on experimental results. In order to apply the neural network algorithm, the back propagation update rule was used and the updated weighting factor of neural network was applied to distribute function of Preisach model. In order to implement the proposed algorithm, the LabView software was used to apply to the precision control of mechanical system. The evaluation of the proposed friction model was executed through experiments.

  • Analytical threshold voltage model of small size ion-implanted MOSFET's is proposed. Yau's model which is only applicable to MOSFET's with constant doping concentration was modified to handle the MOSFET's with nonuniform channel doping concentration and bird's beak, whereby the short and narrow-channel effect was quantitively described. Threshold voltage model for short-channel MOSFET's was derived by approximating the SUPREM result of channel impurity profile to a 2-step profile, and the narrow width be-haviour was successfully described using thr'weighting factor'to accommodate the doping profile in the bird's beak region.

Highway flood hazard mapping in Thailand using the Multi Criteria Analysis based the Analytic Hierarchy Process

  • Flood is one of the major natural disasters affecting millions of people. Thailand also, frequently faces with this type of disaster. Especially, 2011 mega flood in Central Thailand, inundated highway severely attributed to the failure of national economic and risk to life. Lesson learned from such an extreme event caused flood monitoring and warning becomes one of the sound mitigations. The highway flood hazard mapping accomplished in this research is one of the strategies. This is due to highway flood is the potential risk to life and limb, and potential damage to property. Monitoring and warning therefore help reducing live and property losses. In this study, degree of highway flood hazard was assessed by weighting factors for each cause of the highway flood using Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) based Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). These weighting factors are the essential information to classify the degree of highway flood hazard to enable pinpoint on flood monitoring and flood warning in hazard areas. The highway flood causes were then investigated. It was found that three major factors influence to the highway flood are namely the highway characteristics, the hydrological characteristics and the land topography characteristics. The weight of importance for each cause of the highway flood in the whole country was assessed by weighting 3 major factors influence to the highway flood. According to the result of MCA analysis, the highway, the hydrological and the land topography characteristics were respectively weighted as 35, 35 and 30 percent influence to the cause of highway flood. These weighting factors were further utilized to classify the degree of highway flood hazard. The Weight Linear Combination (WLC) method was used to compute the total score of all highways according to each factor. This score was later used to categorize highway flood as high, moderate and low degree of hazard levels. Highway flood hazard map accomplished in this research study is applicable to serve as the handy tool for highway flood warning. However, to complete the whole warning process, flood water level monitoring system for example the camera gauge should be installed in the hazard highway. This is expected to serve as a simple flood monitor as part of the warning system during such extreme or critical event.
