  • In order to apply the Limit Equilibrium Method generally used for the slope stability analysis to the vertical excavation walls reinforced by soil-nailing, in this study, the Limit Equilibrium Method for the temporary shoring facilities reinforced by soil-nailing was proposed, which is based on the stability for the horizontal displacement. In this study, the relation of the internal friction angles of the ground and the vertical excavation depths was arranged, which is satisfying the stability on the horizontal displacement by using the verification of the Limit Equilibrium Method. And then, the rational reinforcing length of soil-nailing was proposed for the critical areas. In addition, the modified safety ratio satisfying the stability on the horizontal displacement was proposed, when the Limit Equilibrium Method was applied to the vertical excavation walls reinforced by soil-nailing.

  • The Green Wall is the highest eco-system among a segmental retaining wall systems. Recently, the demand of high segmental retaining wall (SRW) is increased in domestic. The soil nailing system is applied in order to maintain the high SRW stability for steeper slope. However, the proper design approach that can consider the earth pressure reduction effects in soil nailing system has not been proposed. Hence, the purpose of this study was to provide the design and analysis technique of the segmental retaining wall reinforced by soil nailing. Also, in this study, various parametric studies using numerical method as shear strength reduction (SSR) technique were carried out. In the parametric study, the length ratio and the bond ratio of the soil nailing were changed to identify the earth pressure reduction effect of the retaining wall reinforced by soil nailing.

  • In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology called as the NDB(New Down and Board) soil nailing system is introduced. To improve the trafficability, workability, and economical efficiency, SMC(Sheet Molding Compound) board is adopted instead of using the concrete block facing. The SMC board has a distinct advantage of showing a fine view by directly coating with any kind of environmental photos. Composite material properties of the SMC board and cement grout are distinguished features of the NDB soil nailing system. In the present study, both laboratory tests(bending and punching failure tests) and field pull-out tests are carried out to analyze the behavior characteristics of the NDB soil nailing system, including the stress and strain distribution.

  • Soil nailing is in-situ ground improvement technique of reinforcing soils using passive inclusions for the purpose of slope stability. Also soil nailing, in general, was used and studied as a reinforcement technique at cut slope, but this paper presents the results of study for soil nailing application as a reinforcement technique at the banking over slided slope. In-situ pull-out tests of nails, instrumented with strain gauges, were performed to investigate the maximum pull-out load and to calculate the unit side resistance in each different layer. And the apparent average unit side resistance of this study was compared with that of other sites installed at cut slope.

  • Soil nailing is a reinforcement method used for stabilizing excavated walls or slopes. Due to its much advantages such as ease of construction and economical efficiency, use of soil nailing is increased. However, the soil nail has much disadvantages for use in urban area. The soil nail needs to be installed inevitably beyond private land boundary, which causes rent for use. For this reason, removable soil nailing system was developed. However, the removal rate of this system is just about 50¢¦70%. To resolve this problem, the Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) soil nailing system which does not need to be removed and allows for the installation beyond private land, is developed. In this paper, through theoretical and experimental studies in laboratory and field such as prototype tests, pullout tests, we evaluate the stability and behavior characteristics of the FRP soil nailing system. And, numerical analyses using FLAC2D were performed with respect to various soil conditions, where prototype test for excavation wall and pullout tests were carried out. As a result of this study, the FRP soil nailing systems show similar behavior characteristics with those of removable soil nailing system. Finally, considering the serviceability and mechanical stability of FRP soil nailing systems, it is enough to be used as a good alternative of general soil nailing system.

  • Soil nailing method is widely used in reinforcing slopes and excavating earth. The analysis of nail-reinforced slopes, generally require complicated computer programs. The purpose of this paper is suggest, Soil stability Chart for nailed slopes which are very useful for pre-design, rapidly design, and final check. Three slope types, three nail lengths and three nail angles are selected for the stability analysis by using limit equilibrium method form Bishop and French. From the above results, this study propose the reinforced design charts for examine the necessity of reinforcement can be examined. The suggested stability chart and Taylor's Slope Stability Chart, showed similar safety factors. This Soil Nailing design charts can provide the solutions for necessity of reinforcement, economical of nail's length ratio and installation angle as well.

  • The general soil nailing support system may result in excessive deformations particularly in an excavation zone of the existing weak subsoils. Pretensioning the soil nails then, could play important roles to reduce deformations mainly in part of the nailed-soil excavation system as well as to improve local stability. Morever, soil nails are installed underneath roads, underground structures, and subway structures, thereby resulting in difficulties in nail remval after completion of temporary soil nailed walls. Hence, to date, in order to solve the technical difficulties and avoid legal issues related to the construction of soil nails underneath the surrounding areas and structures, the removable soil nailing system has been developed and used. But, Therefore, a new soil nailing technique called Removable Post-tensioned Soil Nailing(RPTN) system has been developed in the current study. In this study, an investigation of the RPTN system has been conducted by carrying out field measurement. Hence, the RPTN system can reduce ground displacement and enhance stability of the soil nailed walls.

  • Soil nailing system can be mentioned to a method of supporting as the shear strength of in-situ soils is increased by passive inclusions. In the general soil nailing system, facing walls are used in two kind of a lattice concrete block or a cast in placed concrete wall. A case of lattice concrete blocks is used in slow slopes greater than 1:0.7. Also, a case of a cast in placed concrete wall is used in steep slopes less than 1:0.5. The cast in placed concrete walls are constructed to 30cm thick together with a shotcrete facing. In this study, the assembling soil nailing method as a new soil nailing system is proposed. This method is constructed assembly using precast concrete panels. Therefore ability of the construction and quality of the facings can be modified than a usual soil nailing system. Also, this method can be obtained the effects that a global slope stability increase, as precast concrete panels is put on cutting face after excavating a slope.

  • LEM (Limit Equilibrium Method) based programs are commonly used for the designs of soil nailing as a slope reinforcement. However, there is a drawback that the interaction between ground and soil nailing is not properly reflected in those programs, which needs to be solved. For economical constructions and designs, research is also required on the support pattern of soil nailing. In this study, therefore, reinforcement effects of soil nailing were compared and analyzed by performing finite difference analyses which could properly consider the interaction between ground and soil nailing. As a result, when the angle from slope to nail is $90^{\circ}$, failure slip surface becomes the largest and thus the factor of safety becomes maximum.

  • Necessity of removable soil nailing has been arisen in the soil nailing system because of problem such as civil petition for geotechnical environment and invasion of the ground boundary line and payments for use besides geotechnical engineering. Removable soil nailing system is improved soil nailing system that fixed socket arranged in boring hole for increasement of skin friction. In this study, field pull-out tests are carried out more 4 times considering installed distance of fixed socket and analyze skin friction behavior characteristics in fixed socket through analysis of measurements of strain gauge attached to fixed socket. Also, to evaluate application for wedge type removable soil nailing system analyzing displacement aspects through field pull-out tests by trial construction.
