  • This study attempted to investigate the mediating effects of self-efficacy in the influence of appearance management behavior and life satisfaction among middle-aged women. For this, a questionnaire survey was performed among 153 women aged 40-59 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's test, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis, using SPSS 25.0. To examine mediating effects, SPSS Process MACRO #4 was borrowed, and the results found the following: 1) A positive correlation with statistical significance was observed among appearance management behavior, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction. 2) According to the analysis of appearance management behavior, self-efficacy and life satisfaction by demographic characteristics, some differences were found. 3) The mediating effects of self-efficacy in appearance management behavior and the life satisfaction relationship was confirmed. The above results show that middle-aged women experience an increase in self-efficacy through appearance management behavior and improvements in their life satisfaction through such self-efficacy, not just enhancing life satisfaction through appearance management behavior. In other words, appearance management increases life satisfaction through an ego-discovery process.

Three hundred questionnaires were distributed and a total of 276 usable data were coded for further statistical analysis including descriptive statistics (frequency and one way- ANOVA test) by using SPSSWIN 10.1. It was found that the price satisfaction of knitted jacket was low because of imported yarn and production methods(i .e., 1inking, sewing, etc.). Therefore, it is necessary to develop that domestic yam and improve production methods. Another finding ot the study demonstrated that the size of knitted jacket was a little tight for the middle-aged women on the circumstance size(i.e., bust, waist, etc.) while majority of the respondents felt that the areas such as sleeve and shoulder seemed a little bit longer than their size. It should be designed in such that the physical characteristics of knitted materials are considered when pattern is made. Clothing companies should make an effort to effort more information about the knitted jacket and develop pattern suitable for the body shape of the middle-aged women.

  • This paper studied why middle-aged group is using active wear as casual wear. First, we can think of 'comfort', 'ideal body shape', 'trend', 'functionality', 'economy' for the reasons. We categorized the incentives as 'comfort/functionality pursuits', 'trend/economy pursuits', and 'ideal body shape pursuits'. Studies showed that statistically significant number of men pursue comfort and functionality, and statically significant number of women pursue trend and economy. Second, this study shows that the number of consumers who use the active wear in daily lives is greater than that of those who use it only for outdoor activities. The difference was statistically significant in T-shirts and pants. The most frequent usage was in social activities, and the next frequent usage was in cultural activities. The reason is that currently, middle-aged consumers are actively participating in social gatherings than any other activities. Especially, considering that the men wear active wear more than the women do, development of the product as men's casual wear that is compatible with other apparels will be necessary. We expect this study will be used as the preliminary data for a marketing strategy targeting the middle-ages.
