  • The measurement sensor may contain unknown bias in addition to the white noise in the measurement sequence. In this paper, fault detection and diagnosis scheme for the measurement sensor is developed based on the adaptive estimator. The proposed scheme consists of a parallel bank of Kalman-type filters each matched to a set of different possible biases, a mode probability evaluator, an estimate combiner at the outputs of the filters, a bias estimator, and a fault detection and diagnosis logic. Monte Carlo simulations for the PWR steam generator in the nuclear power plant are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • Tomlinson-Harashima precoding (THP) is considered as a prominent precoding scheme due to its capability to cancel out the known interference at the transmitter side. Therefore, the information rates achieved by THP are superior to those achieved by conventional linear precoding schemes. In this paper, a new lower bound on the achievable information rate by the regularized THP under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with multiuser interference is derived. Analytical results show that the lower bound derived in this paper is tighter than the original lower bound particularly at low SNR range, while both lower bounds converge to the same lower limit as SNR$\rightarrow$$\infty$.

  • In this paper we propose a new fast peak searching method using the gradient and present simulation results. The proposed method is a solution to the problem that finds the peak(maximum) of the unimodal function on a finite interval with minimum searching steps. Its main application is the auto-focus in the mobile phone. We propose the three steps to find the peak; periodic search, gradient-based search and detail search. In simulation we generated the Gaussian functions with white noise and have the result of about 8 searching steps and 1.04 errors on average.

  • Random vibration of the coupled identical beams subject to band-limted white noise is studied. The mean-square displacements average dspatially over each beam are derived analytically using two different modal analysis techniques and compared to the results by SEA(Statistical Energy Analysis). It is shown that when frequency is high and a large number of modes are included in the frequency band, the modal analysis methods and the SEA yield the same results provided that the loss factors are very small and the modal separation is much larger than the half-power bandwidth.

  • In order to analyze the rolling motion of a ship in random beam waves we have used the equivalent linearization method. The quadratic nonlinear damping, the cubic and quintic nonlinear restoring moments were added to a single degree of freedom linear equation of roll motion. The irregular excitation moment was assumed to be the Gaussian white noise. The statistical characteristic of the response by the equivalent linearization method was compared with the simulation result.

  • This study investigates the seismic responses of two structures connected by sky-bridges equipped with viscoelastic dampers (VED) in the bridge-building connections. The applicability of the method is verified first by computing RMS responses of two-degrees-of-freedom systems subjected to white noise ground excitation. Then model structures with various number of stories are analyzed using EL CENTRO earthquake excitation to observe the effect of the varying size of VED on reduction of responses. According to the analysis results, there exists a proper size of VED which minimizes the structural responses. It is also observed that the effectiveness of VED increases as the difference of natural frequencies between the two connected structures increases.

  • Modernized GPS will have three frequencies modulated with three signals, which will be accessible to all users in the near future. This new frequency provides an opportunity to resolve the double differenced (DD) integer ambiguity very fast and with almost no baseline constraints. In order to study the performance of triple frequency system for Ambiguity Resolution (AR) over the medium baseline under different ionospheric levels, the Klobuchar Model was implemented and used in our triple simulation to generate the ionospheric delay. Furthermore, the White-Gaussian noise applying to distance-dependent parameters was added to the DD ionospheric delay. For medium baseline (defined as here 20 to 40kms), success rates of AR has been pretty improved. In this paper, the medium baseline AR strategies that take advantage of carrier phase measurement on the third frequency will be discussed.

  • This paper presents the iterative algorithm for obtaining the ME PSE(Maximum Entropy Power Spectral Estimation) of 2-dimensional signals. This problem involves a correction matching power spectral estimate that can be represented as the reciprocal of the spectral of 2-dimensional signals. This requires two matrix inversion every iterations. Thus, we compensate the matrix to be constantly positive definite with relaxational parameters. Using Row/Column decomposition Discrete Fourier Transform, we can decrease a calculation quantity. Using Lincoln data and white noise, this paper examines ME PSE algorithms. Finally, the results output at the graphic display device. The 2-dimensional data have the 3-dimensional axis components, and, this paper develops 3-dimensional graphic output algorithms using 2-dimensional DGL(Device Independent Graphic Library) which is prepared for HP-1000 F-series computer.

  • Single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) is currently being used in long-term evolution uplink communications owing to its low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). This study proposes a new transceiver design for an SC-FDMA system based on Walsh-Hadamard transform (WHT). The proposed WHT-based SC-FDMA system has low-PAPR and better bit-error rate (BER) performance compared with the conventional SC-FDMA system. The WHT-based SC-FDMA transmitter has the same complexity as that of discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based transmitter, while the receiver's complexity is higher than that of the DFT-based receiver. The exponential companding technique is used to reduce its PAPR without degrading its BER. Moreover, the performances of different ordered WHT systems have been studied in additive white Gaussian noise and multipath fading environments. The proposed system has been verified experimentally by considering a real-time channel with the help of wireless open-access research platform hardware. The supremacy of the proposed transceiver is demonstrated based on simulated and experimental results.

  • The response of ship roll oscillation under random ice impulsive loads modeled by Poisson arrival process is very important in studying the safety of ships navigation in cold regions. Under both external and parametric random excitations the evolution of the probability density function of roll motion is evaluated using the path integral (PI) approach. The PI method relies on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation, which governs the response transition probability density functions at two close intervals of time. Once the response probability density function at an early close time is specified, its value at later close time can be evaluated. The PI method is first demonstrated via simple dynamical models and then applied for ship roll dynamics under random impulsive white noise excitation.
