  • An on-board reaction wheel is payload of small satellite for space environment test. The reaction wheel is designed for considering physical, electrical, and environmental requirements. In this paper, we report design, manufacturing process and operation performance verification. Furthermore, the specifications of environmental test are performed under environmental conditions for guarantee of stability and reliability. The operation and environment test results are presented to meet the requirements at the reaction wheel flight model.

  • This study aimed to examine the water consumption of urban households according to pro-environmental attitude for environmental protection. In contrast to preview studies, this study purposed to include various related independent variables, motive to environmental behavior, in special, in the model, and suggest informative data for research, education and strategies related to environmental protection. The data were from 665 housewives living in five urban areas. For the analysis of data, frequencies, means, percentages, GLM analysis, DMR test and Chi-square test were used. The main results of this study were as follows; 1. The respondents held high pro-environmental attitude that pro-environmental behaviors are important to protect environment. The pro-environmental attitude among the respondents were statistically different from the independent variables : spouse's occupation, living area, help of housekeeper, knowledge about environmental protection, convenience to check water consumption, and perception of voluntary conservative behavior among neighborhood 2. There were great difference on water consumption among respondents. The significant independent variables to have effects on water consumption were different between water consumption per person and higher/lower average water consumption. The relationships of pro-environmental attitude and motive to pro-environmental behavior with two water consumption as dependent variables were unique. Also, living areas and knowledge about environment protection were consistently important to explain the difference of water consumption.

  • The performance of emission factor has been validated by comparison with on-road test data. Emission factor, which is a function of vehicle speed, has been acquired based on chassis dynamometer test with NIER driving pattern. Portable Emission Measurement System, PEMS has measured on-road emission. Test vehicle was operated on defined test routes under different driving conditions, and made ten trips along its route. Emission factors properly simulate on-road test result, although there is some drawback to consider variety of driving condition on real world. Vehicle specific power and acceleration have been used to explain the distributed on-road result within same vehicle speed range. The trend in carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emission with respect to specific power and acceleration is clear. It has been found that specific power is a good explanatory variable for microscopic analysis for modal test result. Acceleration is good for microscopic as well as macroscopic analysis.

  • Environmental qualification is required for safety related electrical equipment under harsh environments located in nuclear power plants according to 10 CFR 50.49 and RG 1.89. As analog technology has recently been replaced by digital technology, NRC established RG 1.209 as a regulatory guideline for environmental qualification of safety related computer-based I&C system located in mild environments, requiring evaluation for electromagnetic compatibility, smoke exposure and type test for actual service conditions such as temperature and humidity. In this paper, the trend of environmental qualification for digital equipment is analyzed by comparing the environmental qualification requirements between digital and analog equipment.

  • Recently, public works becoming bigger in Jeju are implemented various kinds of ground reinforcement method including the chemical grouting method. In this study, we have been investigated on the proper material and the injection condition for the excellent injection effect and the excellent strength of injection material and the permanent waterproof and reinforcement through the experiment. The kind of injection material has been selected through the uniaxial compression test and the endurance test of injection material as the chamber test. An experiment was performed with model ground made of scoria, the injection performance of selected material has been identified through the evaluation test of injection range using the decision test of injection amount and the calibration chamber test. As a result of test, it has been analyzed that MSG appeared to have the excellent strength, durability and injection performance all compared with the ordinary cement, this result is judged to be possible as the ancillary data of design at time of design and construction with the chemical grouting method in the future.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to suggest tunnel length to spray curing compound, based on the field tests. METHODS : At first field test, length from the entrance of tunnel to wet wall was checked by visual survey. The second and third test, various sensors were installed in concrete or in tunnel, such as RH sensor, temperature sensor, portable weather station and etc.. And also, test for bleeding and retaining water of concrete were conducted to evaluate environmental effect on concrete pavement. RESULTS : The result of the field experiment for tunnel length to spray curing compound indicates that length changes depending on tunnel length, season, and location. Environmental condition of a short tunnel was not much different between location near entrance and at center of tunnel. However, in case of a medium and long tunnel, effect of outside environmental condition decreased, when location moved into tunnel center of it. CONCLUSIONS : From the testing results, it can be proposed that optimum tunnel length to spray curing compound is 60m for a medium and long tunnel, and whole length for a short tunnel.

  • The efficiency of the OECD MITI(I) test which is designated as a standard method for measuring the biodegradability of chemicals by the Korean Ministry of Environment was evaluated and compared with those of two other OECD ready biodegradability tests: the manometric respirometry test and the closed bottle test. All the tests were applicable to a wide variety of organic chemicals and there were no significant differences in biodegradation rates of eight test chemicals and a reference chemical with three methods. However, the MITI(I) test had unnecessary expense and complexity in preparation of a mixed inoculum. Decrease in bacterial diversity during pre-conditioning of the inoculum for 1 month was observed and therefore the mixed inoculum did not ensure the presence of a variety of species in the test. Based on the simplicity, cost-effectiveness and reproducibility of the test procedure, it is considered that the manometric respirometry test is the most adequate method which can replace the MITI(I) test method.

  • The government has conducted a plan of total maximum daily loads(TMDL), which divides with unit watershed, for management of stable water quality target by setting the permitted total amount of the pollutant. In this study, BOD concentration trends over the last 10 years from 2005 to 2014 were analyzed in the Geumho river. Improvement effect of water quality throughout the implementation period of TMDL was evaluated using the seasonal Mann-Kendall test and a LOWESS(locally weighted scatter plot smoother) smooth. As a study result of the seasonal Mann-Kendall test and the LOWESS smooth, BOD concentration in the Geumho river appeared to have been reduced or held at a constant. As a result of quantitatively analysis for BOD concentration with exploratory data analysis(EDA), the mean and the median of BOD concentration appeared in the order of GH8 > GH7 > GH6 > GH5 > GH4 > GH3 > GH2 > GH1. The monthly average concentration of BOD appeared in the order of Apr > Mar > Feb >May > Jun > Jul > Jan > Aug > Sep > Dec > Nov > Oct. As a result of the outlier, its value was the most frequent in February, which is estimated 1.5 times more than July, and was smallest frequent in July. The outlier in terms of water quality management is necessary in order to establish a management plan for the contaminants in watershed.

  • Site investigation including boring and various in-situ borehole test (Pressuremeter test, Borehole shear test, Downhole test, Suspension PS logging, Density logging) and X-ray fluorescence analysis for rock core sample were performed to estimate geotechnical properties and weathering degree of weathered granite rock in Goyang. Deformation modulus, shear strength parameter and shear wave velocity estimated through in-situ borehole test had a tendency to increase with depth. And several chemical weathering indices evaluated by X-ray fluorescence analysis had a general tendency of reducing weathering degree in accordance with depth. Also, relationship between VR determined as a representative weathering index and the geotechnical properties was analyzed.

  • In this study, a series of scaled model test were carried out in order to find factors that influence the ultimate load of underreamed anchors. Model anchors were made of arcril and 3cm in diameter. Series of tests were performed with various conditions such as density of soil, diameter of bulb, and number of bulb. Type of soil was Jumunjin sand and relative density varied 40%, 60%, 80%.
