  • This paper is on a stereo acoustic echo canceller with the blind signal separation for post processing. The convergence speed of the stereo acoustic echo canceller is deteriorated due to mixing two residual signals which are update signals of each echo canceller. To solve this problem, we are to use the blind signal separation(BSS) method separating the mixed signals after the echo cancellers. The blind signal separation method can extracts the source signals by means of the iterative computations with two input signals. We had verified performances of the proposed acoustic echo canceller for stereo through simulations. The results of simulations show that the acoustic echo canceller for stereo using this algorithm operates stably without divergence in the normal state. And, when the speech signals were inputted, this echo canceller achieved about 2dB higher ERLE with the BSS post processing method than without this method. This stereo echo canceller showed the best performance in the case of inputting the real voice signal.

  • The constant modulus algorithm (CMA) widely used in blind equalization applications minimizes the averaged power of constant modulus error (CME) defined as the difference between an instant output power and a constant modulus. In this paper, a decision feedback version of the linear blind algorithm based on maximization of the zero-error probability for CME is proposed. The Gaussian kernel of the maximum zero-error criterion is analyzed to have the property to cut out excessive CMEs that may be induced from severely distorted channel characteristics. Decision feedback approach to the maximum zero-error criterion for CME is developed based on the characteristic that the Gaussian kernel suppresses the outliers and this prevents error propagation to some extent. Compared to the linear algorithm based on maximum zero-error probability for CME in the simulation of blind equalization environments, the proposed decision feedback version has superior performance enhancement particularly in cases of severe channel distortions.

  • The phase frequency detector (PFD) is one of the most important building blocks of a phase locked Loop (PLL). Due to blind-zone problem, the detection range of the PFD is low. The blind zone of a PFD directly depends upon the reset time of the PFD and the pre-charge time of the internal nodes of the PFD. Taking these two parameters into consideration, a PFD is designed to achieve a small blind zone closer to the limit imposed by process-voltage-temperature variations. In this paper an enhanced architecture is proposed for dynamic logic PFD to minimize the blind-zone problem. The techniques used are inverter sizing, transistor reordering and use of pre-charge transistors. The PFD is implemented in 180 nm technology with supply voltage of 1.8 V.

  • A new dual-mode algorithm for blind equalization of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals is proposed. To solve the problem that the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) converges to the constellation with the arbitrary phase rotation, with the modification of the CMA, the proposed algorithm accomplishes blind equalization and carrier phase recovery simultaneously. In addition, the dual-mode algorithm combining the modified constant modulus algorithm (MCMA) with decision-directed (DD) algorithm achieves the performance enhancement of blind convergence speed and steady-state residual ISI. So we can refer the proposed algorithm to as a scheme for joint blind equalization and carrier phase recovery. Simulation results for i.i.d. input signals confirm that the dual-mode algorithm results in faster convergence speed, samller residual ISI, and better carrier phase recovery than those of the CMA and DD algorithm without any significant increase in computational complexity.

  • Purpose: Recently, many public office buildings which were built by curtain wall increased rapidly, but the results of the investigation of the government, these buildings have been found that the heating and cooling thermal load is high, and showed low energy efficiency. Method: To evaluate the effects by applying outdoor louver and indoor blind, which can control solar radiation in order to reduce the heating and cooling load of public office building which was built by glass curtain wall. The heating and cooling load was calculated via Energyplus, building and outdoor louver, indoor blind were modeled by Google sketchup connected to Energyplus. Result: The results of this study were as follows; the case of applying various outdoor louver, the heating and cooling load all decreased as compared to the case without applying outdoor louver, the case of applying indoor blind, the heating and cooling load decreased as compared to the case without applying indoor blind, but indoor blind showed low energy performance comparing outdoor louver.

  • This paper discusses a blind equalization technique for FIR channel system, that might be minimum phase or not, in digital communication. The proposed techniques consist of two parts. One is to estimate the original channel coefficients based on fourth-order cumulants of the channel output, the other is to employ RBF neural network to model an inverse system fur the original channel. Here, the estimated channel is used as a reference system to train the RBF. The proposed RBF equalizer provides fast and easy teaming, due to the structural efficiency and excellent recognition-capability of R3F neural network. Throughout the simulation studies, it was found that the proposed blind RBF equalizer performed favorably better than the blind MLP equalizer, while requiring the relatively smaller computation steps in tranining.

  • In this paper, we presented the window applicable blind-type frequency selective surface to control the coverage area of wireless communication in secure building or conference room. The proposed frequency selective structure has the reconfigurable frequency range depends on its blind rotation angle. To verify the proposed structure, we fabricated the window blind-type frequency selective surface with four-legged loaded element and ring-type element as a unit cell and performed measurements of the transmission characteristics for different blind rotation angles to prove the feasibility. The measurement results show good agreements with the simulation results. One of the advantages is that the proposed structure does not need to have a bias circuit, so it is very easy to implement at low cost and also can be applied to any planar surface for wireless security applications.

  • Blind equalizers recover the transmitted data using signal's statistical characteristics only. Because of its computational simplicity and fast convergence rate, CMA is widely used in practice. Blind equalizers, however, converge much slowly than conventional equalizers which use the training signals. In order to improve the convergence rate, many modified blind equalization algorithms have been proposed. Among those, Normalized CMA (NCMA) was applied to increase the convergence rate by using the large step size. Unfortunately it can only be applied for the constant modulus signal constellation scheme. this paper, we propose the Selective NCMA (SNCMA) that improve the convergence rate of blind equalization algorithms by using NCMA for non-constant modulus signalling method such as QAM constellation. We achieved fast start-up convergence rate and reduced steady-state residual error.

  • Challenges in cognitive radio and tactical communications include recognizing anonymously received signals and estimating parameters in a blind or semi-blind manner. In this paper, we examine this issue for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling. There are several parameters in OFDM signaling, and the blind receiver must extract and consider the synchronization issue. We assume that the blind receiver is aware of modulation type, OFDM, and not aware of chip duration and the length of cyclic prefix. First, we present new criteria based on kurtosis to estimate these parameters and compare their performance at different levels of additive white Gaussian noise with methods based on correlation, kurtosis, maximum likelihood, and matched filter. Then, we perform synchronization and estimate the start time based on these criteria and several new criteria in two steps: fine and coarse synchronization. Finally, in a more practical setup, we present the idea of jointly estimating the mentioned parameters and the signal start time as coarse synchronization. We compare different criteria and show that one of the proposed criteria has the highest efficiency.
