The study is intended to clarify the ideologies and principles applied to the formative expression of church architecture which is contained both the God and human. Iconography as the relation between described target and the meaning as meaning analysis especially emphasized since the religious reason in religious art. Iconography is the area of discussing rules and habits and involved in the pieces of transition from the piece of experience obtained by sensing to the one of the ethical structure. N. L. Prak who apply meaning theory of E. Panofsky who distinguish between iconography and iconology clear relation of mental foundation which characteristics of shape of art and its concretion in architecture categorized the shape of meaning in three steps. Among them, conscious symbol and unconscious symbol correspond to iconography and iconology of Panofsky respectively. The symbol is mainly showed in religious architecture and is not related to simple practical architecture. Such symbol system can be important discussion objects in modern church architecture and necessary expressional system for expressional characteristics.

These analyses can be roughly classified into two groups: the first argue that the delimiter -to is polysemous so that it delivers either additive or concessive meaning; the second contend that it is monosemous and only conveys emphatic or concessive meaning. The current analysis mainly focuses on its two roles with regard to focus and its meaning. On the basis of the findings, a different analysis is proposed that it serves as an indicator of the presence of a type of focus which is hosted mainly by the expression it attaches to. Furthermore, it is solely responsible for the additive force, and the seemingly relevant emphatic or concessive import is derivable from an emphatic or concessive illocutionary operator which is associated with the focus indicated by -to.

Social network games (SNGs), a rapidly growing online game genre, are built and played on social network sites. SNGs provide an online world for enjoying leisure time and interpersonal communication, and an increasing numbers of college students are involved in such game-playing as a leisure time activity. Despite the popularity, relatively few studies have been conducted to investigate the nature of game players, especially the meaning of such leisure time behavior by college students. This paper's aim was to explore a subjective meaning structure of online social network game play. The means-end chain model was used to link attributes of SNGs to the underlying values of game playing as a leisure activity. The results revealed two emerging end-values: the need for bridging and a sense of belonging. This study sheds light on the meaning of college students' leisure activities when playing social network games.

Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the predictors of health conservation for elders in Korea. Method: Random sampling method was used and data from 113 elders were used for final analysis. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires which were constructed to include Health Conservation Scale, Purpose in Life Test and Self-efficacy Scale. Results: Health conservation of the elders was in the middle range. The elders of this study had few goals towards meaning in life, and were in an existential vacuum state. There was a positive correlation between health conservation, meaning in life and self-efficacy. The significant factors influencing health conservation of elders were meaning in life, education level and gender. These 3 factors explained 30.6% of health conservation of elders. Conclusions: The results indicate that health conservation is an important link with meaning in life in elders. There should be a comprehensive study in the future for in-depth understanding of health conservation of elders.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analysis the effect of death preparing education on death anxiety, spiritual well-being and meaning of life in adults. Methods: This study adapted the one group pre-posttest design. Data collection and intervention were performed from January 19 to 25, 2009. The participants were 30 adults (aged 20 or older) from Jeonju City. The death preparing education program consisted of five steps. Data were analyzed through paired t-test with SPSS/WIN 12.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in death anxiety, spiritual well-being and meaning of life between before and after the death preparing education program. Conclusion: The death preparing education program for adults was confirmed to be an effective intervention to lower death anxiety and to improve spiritual well-being and the meaning of life. Therefore, I look forward to broad application of this program to adults.

A 'TEXT' is a basic unit of culture. It is also the whole of culture organization which is generalizing a culture. Literary texts which are reflection of the culture could be understood as historical discourse. This thesis which is based on the 'Semiotic theory', 'Victor Turner's Performance theory', and Sung Man Lee's 'Information Model', classified the type of meaning to explain how to communicate the meaning of thing which were described in novels, for examples, background, dress, dialogue, era, etc. An interpreter (reader) should understand the culture described in novels to clarify the ambiguous significance. An interpretative theory of symbolic meaning described in text was presented in this thesis, and it was applied to analysis Myung Hee Choi's novel, 'Honbul'.

The research aims to analyze the structural meaning of mobility design on 'Furnitecture' with the works of Andrea Zittel. The study consists of the literature review and the analysis of Zittel's works. The framework for the analysis is divided into four steps: identification of visual forms/structure/function, analysis of the principles of delivering the concept of mobility, interpretation & synthesis of the relational meanings derived from the concepts of mobility, and evaluation of Zittel's tendency toward design/social background/design history, etc. Total fifteen cases are selected from Zittel's works, and each case is analyzed following the above steps. The finding shows that Zittel likes to play with geometrical forms, grid & modular system to create a minimum space for living equipped with critical furnishing. Secondly, Zittel's works deliver the concept of mobility by applying movability, adaptation, combination and transformation. Thirdly, through the concepts of mobility, Zittel reflects the ideas of high efficiency and functionalism, harmony with natural environment, search for liberty, simple & humble life and success of the designers of American modernism. Finally, it is found that modernism from the era of Bauhaus, utopian values derived from constructionism, utilitarianism inspired by Shakers and homestead act & mobile home/capsule unit suggested since 19th century in America mainly affect Zittel's works to reflect the dynamic concepts of mobility through the design of furnitecture.

The purpose of this study is to extract 'the Rite of Passage'from a Korean novel, 'HON-BUL', and to analysis intrinsic meanings and function of the symbols, their personal meanings and social meanings from it. A pragmatical method was used for the analysis of this research. The results were as followings : The meaning of the Rite of Passage and the Costumes had mainly incantatory characters ; son-wish, wealth, amicable relations between a husband and a wife, long life, and perpetual thought. But the amount of grasping of meaning was thought to be depended on the reading ability of readers. Since the Wedding Ceremony and the Funeral Ceremony were described a lot of times in the novel, it was known that they were regarded as very important Rite of Passage in the whole life. The TEXT which were cited from the novel showed that the Rite of Passage was traditionally described as the Birth Ceremony, the Wedding Ceremony (includes the Puberty Ceremony), and the Funeral Ceremony. The analysis of meaning in a novel had an important roll to understand CULTURE, SOCIAL LIFE, and TIMES in a written novel. Therefore a novel is very valuable to analyze them as the DISCOURSE and the TEXT.

As a computational approach to literary criticism, the method of character network analysis has attracted attention. The character network is composed of nodes as characters and links as relationship between characters, and has been used to analyze literary works systematically. However, there were limitations in that relationships between characters were so superficial that they could not reflect intimate relationships and quantitative data from the network were not interpreted in depth regarding meaning of literary works. In this study, we propose an improved method of character network analysis through a case study on the play . First, we segmented the character network into a dialogue network focused on speaker-to-listener relationship and an opinion network focused on subject-to-object relationship. We analyzed these networks in various ways and discussed how analysis results could reflect structure and meaning of the work. Through these studies, we strived to find a way of organic and meaningful connection between literary criticism in humanities and network analysis in computer science.

In this study, the concept of environmental-friendly architecture, where environment is importantly regarded as a design concept in modern architecture and the meaning of boundary are examined, To apply properly design methodologies along with the importance of environment, the concept of environmental-friendly architecture should be first correctly established. And as the recent rapid development of technologies provides new possibilities for environmentally-friendly architecture, it is needed to have a new boundary concept and the interpretation of the meaning of boundary differentiated from the one of existing architecture. Recently the meaning of boundary is expanding its range to the relations with its neighboring environment beyond the relations with in and out of a space and has also the role as a medium for exchange and communication instead of breaking-off. Therefore, the boundary of environmental-friendly architecture alongside physical boundary is extended to the area for communication. Here, a basic boundary of architecture is maintained, but its meaning and expressions get natural shapes. The study deals with the analysis of the concept of environmental-friendly architecture and its changes from the perspective of times, environment and social backgrounds and seeks its appropriateness centered on environmental-friendly architecture Since 1980s when the issues of human and environment were raised in earnest.
