  • A simple cold pressing procedure which allows shear deformations on sheet metals is proposed by designing dies with grooves and applied to aluminum 3003 sheets. shear deformation led to the formation of preferred orientation along <100>//RD, and the effect of initial tortures on the formation of shear textures was also studied Rectangular shaped dislocation cells formed in the deformed microstructure and boundaries of dislocation cells gradually rounded with the increased plastic strain. Upon subsequent annealing textures inherited deformation textures. Recrystallized grains consisted of a large number of fully recovered subgrains with well defined boundaries which persisted even after annealing at a higher temperature.

  • To improve the texture and the hardness of Ni substrates, we added impurities such as Mn, Fe, Co, Cu and Cr and investigated the effect of impurities on the texture and the hardness of Ni tapes. The Ni tapes with 0.2% Co, Cr, Cu, showed poor in-plane textures. However, the Ni tapes with 0.1 ${\sim}$ O.2% Mn (or Fe), showed much better textures. We'll describe the detailed effects of the amount of Mn impurities.

  • The continuous confined strip shearing (CCSS) based on the equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) was modeled by means of a rigid-plastic two-dimensional finite element method (FEM). Parallel to the simulations, samples of AA 1050 sheets were experimentally deformed by CCSS. The CCSS deformation led to the formation of through thickness texture gradients comprising a strong shear texture in the sheet center and weak shear textures in the sheet surfaces. FEM analysis revealed variations in the strain component $\varepsilon_13$ along the sample thickness direction, which gave rise to the evolution of different textures. A high friction between the sample and die surface was responsible for lowering intensities of the shear texture components in thickness layers close to the surfaces.

  • This paper investigates the description ability of chaotic feature vector to dynamic textures. First a chaotic feature and other features are calculated from each pixel intensity series. Then these features are combined to a chaotic feature vector. Therefore a video is modeled as a feature vector matrix. Next by the aid of bag of words framework, we explore the representation ability of the proposed chaotic feature vector. Finally we investigate recognition rate between different combinations of chaotic features. Experimental results show the merit of chaotic feature vector for pixel intensity series representation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that obtains the surfac eorientation of the texture image using structural approaches. The proposed method showed that structural approaches can be effectively used in 3-D analysis of textures as well as description and segmentation without additional information. By examining fourier power spectrum of the texture image, we detemine the tilt of the textured surface. Then, 1-D projection information of the texture in the obtained tilt direction is used to compute the slant. Using the obtained information, we can compute the vanishing point, and rearrange the textured surface with lines converging to the vanishing point and lines perpendicular to the tilt direction. In the experimental results, we have ascertained the proposed algorithm can make a rpecise 3-D analysis of structural textures.

  • Restraint to drying shrinkage is the most common cause of concrete cracking. In many applications, drying shrinkage cracks are inevitable. In this paper, the surface cracks of soil concrete caused by drying shrinkage were considered to become an one of concrete textures. So, laboratory shrinkage tests were conducted and the results were applied to the field applications. The study results were summarized as follows; First, the use of vinyl sheets and concrete polymers helped to control the concrete cracking. Second, crack propagation usually started at the interfaces of soil concrete slabs and the cracks grew to the inner slabs. Third, surface cracks of soil concrete slabs could be an one of good concrete textures

  • In this paper, we propose an image-based synthesis method that can effectively represent the spark effect in fire simulation. We use the real flame image or animated image as inputs and perform the following steps : 1) extract feature vectors from the image, 2) calculate artificial buoyancy, and 3) generate and advect spark textures. We detect the edge from images and then calculate the feature vectors to calculate the buoyancy. In the next step, we compute the high-quality buoyancy vector field by integrating the two-dimensional feature vector and the fluid equation. Finally, the spark texture is advect by buoyancy field. As a result, our method is performed much faster than the previous approach and high-quality results can be obtained easily and stably.

  • Textures of claystones of the Cheonunsan Formation in the Hwasoon area have been studied using optical microscope and electron microprobe. Microscopic images were observed under the optical microscope using the transmitted polarizing light from thin sections and under the electron microprobe using the back-scattered electron beam from the polished sections. Identification of minerals were made using X-ray diffraction analysis and chemical analysis by electon microprobe. Textural analyses show that the original sedimentary claystones rich in aluminium were subjected to metamorphism by which they changed to the metamorphosed claystone consisting mainly of chloritoid, quartz, andalusite and illite. Later intensive hydrothermal kaolinization of this metamorhosed claystones resulted in the formation of high-aluminous claystones rich in kaolinite exhibiting various complicated replacement textures.

  • The development of textures and microstructures during plastic deformation in a hot-extruded AZ 31 Mg alloy was investigated using a compression test with such parameters as deformation temperature, strain rate. It was observed from true stress-strain curves that twinning involves changes of the flow stresses. In the early stages of deformation at temperatures lower than $200^{\circ}C$, the occurrence of twins resulted in a decrease of the work-hardening rate, which increased drastically at a true strain of -0.05. The evolution of the deformation textures were assessed with the aid of EBSD analyses in terms of the competition between twinning and slip activity.

  • In this paper, we present a new method that combines the characteristics of edge in-formation and second-order neural networks for the classification of structural textures. The edges of a texture are extracted using an edge detection approach. From this edge information, classification features called second-order features are obtained. These features are fed into a second-order neural network for training and subsequent classification. It will be shown that the main disadvantage of using structural methods in texture classifications, namely, the difficulty of the extraction of texels, is overcome by the proposed method.
