  • This paper is concerned with the prediction of lift-off acoustic loads for a launch vehicle. Intense acoustic load is generated when a launch vehicle is lifted off, and it can induce vibrations of a launch vehicle which cause damage or malfunction of a launch vehicle and a satellite. Lift-off acoustic loads of NARO are predicted by the modified Eldred's second method and the result is compared with the measured data in flight test. The prediction shows similar peak and shape of spectrum to the test data, but some discrepancy can be observed due to the predicted margin. In order to reduce such discrepancy, the sound pressure levels with four source distribution assumptions are calculated. Also, the surface diffraction effects are considered in the predict ion of lift-off acoustic loads, and the predicted result is more similar to the test data.

  • Recent occurrences of earthquakes in Korea have increased the importance of considering how horizontal loads affect foundation structures as a result of wind and dynamic impact. However, to date, there are few studies on tunnelling-induced behaviour of ground and pile structures simultaneously subjected to horizontal and vertical loads. In this research, therefore, the behaviour of ground and single piles due to tunnelling were investigated through a laboratory model test. Three cases of horizontal loads were applied to the top of the pile. In addition, a numerical analysis was carried out to analyse and compare with the results from the laboratory model test.

  • Building energy consumption according to the ventilation has been considered to be an important subject. The purpose of this study is to investigate the cooling loads in a test space with a forced ventilating system. In the test space, on/off controlled air-conditioning and forced ventilating facility were operated between 8:30 to 21:00 during 4 days and some important data like temperatures and energy consumption were measured to obtain actual cooling loads. The simulation was carried out in a mode of temperature level control using a TRNSYS 15.3 with a precisely measured air change amount and performance data of air-conditioner. Cooling loads including sensible and latent were compared between by experiment and by simulation. Both of cooling loads associated with ventilation show a close agreement within an engineering tolerance.

  • Long-term behavior of reinforced clayey soil by model tests were performed to investigate the effect of reinforcement during loads and under static loads. In order to determine proper contents by weight of monofilament polypropylene fiber and calcium carbonate, the drying shrinkage and compressive strength tests had been conducted before model tests. Model tests were run on a clayey soil mixed with or without reinforcement and test specimen in test apparatus was placed in air dry for 7days before load application. In the case of fiber reinforced soil, the horizontal strain was lower than others during loads because the presence of fibers increased the soil's resistance to deformation. All of reinforced clayey soil, horizontal strain decreased as the water content decrease under static loads.

  • In this study, the behavior of saturated sandy soils under dynamic loads - pore water pressure and effective stress - was investigated using Disturbed State Concept(DSC) model. The model parameters are evaluated from laboratory test data. During the process of loading and reverse loading, DSC model is utilized to trace strain-hardening and cyclic softening behavior. The procedure of back prediction proposed in this study are verified by comparing with laboratory test results. From the back prediction of pore water pressure and effective mean pressure under cyclic loading, excess pore water pressure increases up to initial effective confining pressure and effective mean pressure decrease close to zero in good greement with laboratory test results. Those results represent the liquefaction of saturated sandy soils under dynamic loads. The number of cycles at initial liquefaction using the model prediction is in good agreement with laboratory test results. Therefore, the results of this study state that the liquefaction of saturated sandy soils can be explained by the effective tress analysis.

  • In this paper, fatigue behavior of concrete slab tracks under railway loads by experimental method is discussed. The addition of steel fibers to concrete mix has been receiving more attention as a way of improving the crack behavior of concrete beams an slabs tacks. This study two objectives: 1) to observe the fatigue behavior of fiber reinforced concrete slab in labor, and 2) to present crack propagation and deflection of fiber reinforced concrete slab track under railway loads in the Waghauser test line. Nine beams, two slabs and one test track were experimentally tested.

  • This research analyzed dynamic responses of the preflex railroad bridge. Vertical deflection and acceleration induced by operating train loads and test train loads were measured. Deflection of bridge by train traveling satisfies deflection limitation regulation (L/800) about the concrete bridge, but compare with UIC standard, vibration acceleration happened fairly greatly. Also test result show that acceleration receives greatly effect about the speed than deflection. It must discuss about vibration acceleration problems for speed elevation hereafter.

  • The design load-carrying capacities of wooden shores depend on factors, such as the wood species and properties, and construction methods. This paper focuses on the construction methods, including an upright single shore, group of upright shores, group of inclined shores, butt connections and lap connections. This paper reports experiments to obtain critical loads and then developed an empirical equation based on Euler' formula for the critical loads and design load-carrying capacities. The test results show that the critical loads for an upright single wooden shore are greater than the average values for a group of upright shores, and the latter are greater than the average values for a group of inclined shores. Test results also show that the critical loads become smaller when butt or lap connections are used, butt connections possessing greater critical loads than lap connections. Groups of inclined shores are very popular at work sites because they have some practical advantages even though they actually possess inferior critical loads. This paper presents an improved setup for constructing groups of inclined shores. With this method, the inclined shores have larger critical loads than upright shores. The design load-carrying capacities were obtained by multiplying the average critical loads by a resistance factor (or strength reduction factor, ${\phi}$) that were all smaller than 1. This article preliminarily suggests ${\phi}$ factors based on the test results for the reference of engineers or specification committees.
