  • Colombo noticeably became the most economical gateway to the Indian subcontinent, in terms of cost as well as time. The Colombo Port Expansion Project (CPEP) started commencement with the purpose of accommodating mega ships, under the long-term strategies of making Colombo the hub of South Asia. In this context, the purpose of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between Indian ports' originated container traffic, and total transshipments of the port of Colombo, and also to identify the nature of the causality between the two variables, evaluating Granger causality test results. It finds unidirectional causality from total transshipments of Colombo to Indian ports' originated transshipments in the port of Colombo. It suggested that ongoing port expansion projects, opening up for new markets and attracting new shipping lines in the port of Colombo, have generated significant impact on Indian ports' container traffic, via the port of Colombo. Findings would be valuable for future forecasting of container traffic in Colombo port and the policy-making process in the port as well.

  • The loss reserve is defined as a provision for an insurer's liability for claims or an insurer's estimate of the amount an individual claim will ultimately cost. For the estimation of the loss reserve, the data which make up the claims in general is represented as run-off triangle. The chain ladder method has known as the most representative one in the estimation of loss reserves based on such run-off triangular data. However, this fails to capture change point in trend. In order to test of structural changes of development factors, we will present the test statistics and procedures. A real data analysis will also be provided.

  • With the development of the auto industry, the automobile manufacturers demand to shorten development period and reduce the cost. Compared with the traditional method, applying the virtual prototype is more economical. This paper presents a method for parameters sensitivity analysis and optimizing the performance of vehicle noise and vibration. The existing design processes were repeatedly analyzed with a focus on vehicle performance to decide the design parameters of dimension, thickness, mounting type of body and chassis systems in the vehicle development period. This paper describes the prediction technique of vehicle performance using L18 orthogonal array layout, quality deviation analysis and parameter sensitivity analysis for robust design. This paper analyzed the performance correlation equation through the frequency and sensitivity database according to a design factor change. The new concept is that the performance prediction is possible without repeated activities of test and analysis. This paper described the parameter analysis applications such as bush dynamic stiffness and bush void direction of rear suspension. Design engineer could efficiently decide the design variable using parameter analysis database in early design stage. These improvements can reduce man hour and test development period as well as to achieve stable NVH performance.

  • A few study has been performed on the durability of subbase treated with geo-cement for the farm road although many papers for the road treated with soil-cement were published. The objectives of the study are to develop the stabilizing method of subbase using additives of cement groups and 2nd additives such as gypsum and MgO, etc. A series of test was performed to investigate possible mixing ratios with geo-cement A, B, C, D and 2nd additives on the various soft soils from the rice paddy. Based on test results, durability index was greatly affected by geo-cement D which was mainly composed with gypsum. Compressive strength of clayey soil such as Soil I was less than threshold strength(30kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$) but the strength was increased as addition of gypsum and MgO. It is recommended that geo-cement for soil stabilization has to be carefully chosen because strength characteristics of subbase are varied not only with soils but also with addition of geo-cement and 2nd additives. The developed method in this study can be used subbase treatment of low-cost agricultural roads.

  • Most supersonic-flow test facility has axisymmetric nozzles or two-dimensional symmetric nozzles. Compared to these nozzles, a two-dimensional asymmetric nozzle has advantages of reducing low cost for various Mach number testing and undesirable flow structure such as shock wave reflection because the nozzle part can be directly connected to the test section part in this type of nozzle. The two-dimensional asymmetric nozzle, which was Mach number 2, was designed for supersonic combustion experiment. And it was verified with the numerical analysis and visualization of Mach wave. This study suggested the practical method for design and verification of supersonic two dimensional asymmetric nozzles.

  • The back-to-back and box-shaped headers used in light gauge steel structures have some disadvantages, i.e., construction efficiency and cost competitiveness. As such, cold-formed steel L-shaped headers have been developed and are used actively in advanced nations. However, this system has not been used in Korea because of inadequate investigation and adaptation efforts and lack of application example. Thus, this research evaluated the structural performance of L-header using buckling analyses and bending tests. Test results were compared using the AISI design criteria. Test results showed that local buckling and distortional buckling governed buckling behavior in gravity loads and uplift loads, respectively. These results were consistent with the calculated nomial strengths using the AISI design criteria.

  • The feasibility of stimulating in situ aerobic cometabolic activity of indigenous microorganisms was investigated in a trichloroethene(TCE)-contaminated aquifer, A series of single-well natural drift tests (SWNDT) was conducted by injecting site groundwater amended with a bromide tracer and combinations of toluene, oxygen, nitrate, ethylene and TCE into an existing monitoring well and by sampling the same well over time. Transformation of ethylene, a surrogate of overall TCE transformation activity, was also observed, and its transformation results in the production of ethylene oxide, suggesting that some tolune-oxidizing microorganisms stimulated may express a monooxygenase enzymes. Also in situ transformation of TCE was confirmed by dilution-adjusted data analysis developed in this study. These results indicate that, in this environment, toluene and oxygen additions stimulated the growth and aerobic cometabolic activity of indigenous microorganisms expressing monooxygenase enzymes and that these are responsible for observed toluene utilization and cometabolism of ethylene and TCE. The simple, low-cost field test method provides an effective method for conducting rapid field assessments and pilot testing of aerobic cometabolism of TCE, which has previously hindered application of this technology to groundwater remediation.

  • Under a corrosive environment, electrodes that are applied in the water-treatment system need not only very high electrochemical activity for fast reactions, but also high durability for cost saving. Therefore, the fabrication condition of iridium electrodes was examined to produce a more durable iridium electrode in this study. Tantalum was selected as a binder to enhance the durability of the iridium electrode. Investigation of the weight ratio between the catalyst and the binder to improve electrochemical activity was performed. Also, to compare the effect of the different coating amounts of the catalyst, the results of CV (Cyclic Voltammetry) and EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy) were discussed. Furthermore, an ALT(Accelerated Lifetime Test) was designed and applied to the electrodes to determine the conditions for highly durable electrode fabrication.
