  • It is an well-known fact that dynamic properties should be considered in design and maintenance of civil structures undergoing dynamic force such as rail track. For designing of the rail tack structures, dynamic properties of track bed soil such as shear modulus (G) and damping coefficients(D) obtained in small to medium range of shear strain must be known. In general, small size sample of D=5 cm and H=10cm has been used mostly for test convenience. However, ratio of largest particle diameter of the soil to sample diameter is very important and affects to the values of dynamic soil properties in track bed. In this study, an RC/TS test apparatus was built and was run for testing a medium size soil sample that can handle with compacted soil sample up to 10 cm diameter and 20 cm height.

  • This paper, as a preliminary study, presents the important consideration in laboratory planning and designing 4.2MV impulse voltage generator(IVG), which enable to test and evaluate the UHV dielectric performance of power electric apparatus up to 765kV-class. To fix and confirm the kinds of loads and their capacities to be tested by KERI hereafter, wide investigation and an analysis of test objects, especially heavy electric apparatus of Korea, according to their ratings and test voltages have been conducted. With the special consideration concerning other matters in designing of 4.2MV IVG have been described with the practical examples and references.

Prediction of acceleration and impact force values of a reinforced concrete slab

  • Concrete which is a composite material is frequently used in construction works. Properties and behavior of concrete are significant under the effect of different loading cases. Impact loading which is a sudden dynamic one may have destructive effects on structures. Testing apparatuses are designed to investigate the impact effect on test members. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is a computational model that is inspired by the structure or functional aspects of biological neural networks. It can be defined as an emulation of biological neural system. In this study, impact parameters as acceleration and impact force values of a reinforced concrete slab are obtained by using a testing apparatus and essential test devices. Afterwards, ANN analysis which is used to model different physical dynamic processes depending on several variables is performed in the numerical part of the study. Finally, test and predicted results are compared and it's seen that ANN analysis is an alternative way to predict the results successfully.

  • Among many tests to verify the characteristics of power system apparatus, the short circuit test is performed to verify the performance characteristics of the apparatus under the short-circuited power system. The verification of the short-circuit performance is inevitable for the reliability of power system and the safety of the operator around. The short circuit performance test requires the suitable power source and Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute has 4000 MVA, 500 MVA short circuit generators for the short circuit performance test. This paper will study on the parameters of short-circuit generator and the estimation of them.

  • Most research to date concerning the cryogenic toughness of austenitic stainless steels has concentrated on the base metal and weld metal in weldments. The most severe problem faced on the conventional austenitic stainless steel is the thermal aging degradation such as sensitization and carbide induced embrittlement. In this paper, we investigate the cryogenic toughness degradation which can be occurred for austenitic stainless in welding. The test materials are austenitic stainless JN1, JJ1 and JK2 steels, which are materials recently developed for use in nuclear fusion apparatus at cryogenic temperature. The small punch(SP) test was conducted to detect similar isothermally aging condition with material degradation occurred in service welding. The single-specimen unloading compliance method was used to determine toughness degradation caused by thermal aging for austenitic stainless steels. In addition, we have investigated size effect on fracture toughness by using 20% side-grooved 0.5TCT specimens.

  • This study was carried orut considering the aspect of economical and measuring time to investigate through the literature review of the test methods and advantage -disadvantage of infilltrometer and porous probe test apparatus. SSRI and BAT permeameter could obtain results within relatively short time and measure low permeability. SDRI is able to obtain values the accuracy and representative of the overall in-situ. BAT permeameter is to suitable because it can obtain the values accurately and quickly . Therefore the apparatus cost can be to disregard. In-situ measurement using in-situ hydralulic conductivity test equipment is able to do for the engineer to quickly identify and remediate problem areas due to construction or material changes.

중고등학교 피복재료 학습효과를 높이기 위한 시험장치 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on simplified Textile testing apparatus for teaching high school students)

  • This study was to increase the experimental learning effect of textile materials in middle and high school. To this study, three kinds of simply devised apparatus were used for warmth retaining test, air permeability test and static electricity test. Two classes were chosen in a girls' high school comparing learning effect and classified the theoretical learning group and the experimental learning group. In the experimental group, a teaching plan to teach the properties of textile materials was made to use these apparatuses. The results were. 1. In the interest on the unit either the theoretical learning group or the experimental learning group were not different significantly. 2. In the items facilitation of motivation, unsatisfied desires and prevention of failure, effect of transfer and development of inquiry power, both groups were significant. 3. For the purpose of comparing the learning effect, two groups were examined for determining the level of understanding after teaching properties of textile materials. The mean value of the experimental learning group was higher than that of the theoretical learning group. The experimental learning group had more higher markers(over the point of 90) than the theoretical learning group.

  • In this Paper, there have been brief review about the important consideration in laboratory planning and designing the dielectric testing facilities for heavy electric apparatus up to 800kV-class in the high voltage testing fields. To improve and reinforce the existing dielectric test facilities in the way of econo-mical and optimal condition, wide investigation and an analysis for a solution, especially overshoot compensation method. have been suggested. With the brief description about those matters in constructing and improving the test facilities, the specification of each facility has been shown in the paper.

Evaluation of Dynamic Properties of Trackbed Foundation Soil Using Mid-size Resonant Column Test

  • A mid-size RC test apparatus (MRCA) equipped with a program is developed that can test samples up to D=10 cm diameter and H=20 cm height which are larger than usual samples used in practice. Using the developed RC test apparatus, two types of crushed trackbed foundation materials were tested in order to get the shear modulus reduction curves of the materials with changing of shear strain levels. For comparison purpose, large repetitive triaxial compression tests (LRT) with samples of height H=60cm and diameter D=30 cm were performed also. Resilient modulus obtained from the LRT was converted to shear modulus by considering elastic theory and strain level conversion and were compared to shear modulus values from the MRCA. It is found from this study that the MRCA can be used to test the trackbed foundation materials properly. It is found also that strain levels of $E_{v2}$ mostly used in the field should be verified considering the shear modulus reduction curves and proper values of $E_{v2}$ of trackbed foundation must be used considering the strain level verified.

직접전단실험시 전단상자의 종류에 따른 모래시료의 전단거동 (Shear Behavior of Sands Depending on Shear Box Type in Direct Shear Test)

  • 직접전단시험은 전단상자의 경계조건에 따라 흙의 전단거동이 달라지는 것으로 알려져있다. 본 연구의 목적은 Type-A 형태의 기존 직접전단시험기의 문제점에 대해 분석하고 Type-C 형태의 직접전단시험기의 개발을 통해 신뢰성 높은 직접전단결과를 도출하는데 있다. 기존 직전단시험기와 새로 개발된 직접전단시험기를 사용하여 상대밀도가 60%로 조성된 모래시료에 대해 초기 구속응력 50kPa, 100kPa, 200kPa, 300kPa, 400kPa에서 0.5mm/min의 일정한 전단속도로 직접전단시험을 수행하였다. 일정수직하중 조건에서 수행된 Type-A의 직접전단시험기와 Type-C 시험기의 결과를 비교하여 새로 개발된 시험기의 신뢰성을 평가하였다. 또한 새로 개발된 시험기를 사용하여 일정 수직하중 조건과 정압조건의 두 가지 구속조건에 대한 직접전단시험을 수행하여 그 결과를 비교, 분석하였다. 실험결과, Type-A의 직접전단시험기에서는 하중재하판과 상부 전단상자가 기울거나, 흙의 체적변화로부터 발생되는 시료와 전단상자 내부 벽면간의 마찰이 전단면에 작용하는 응력에 영향을 끼치게 되는 문제가 발생하였다. Type-A의 직접전단시험기에서는 전단상자 형태와 경계조건에 따라 전단강도가 과대 혹은 과소평가 되었다. Type-C의 직접전단시험기에서는 구속조건에 상관없이 일관성있는 실험결과를 나타내었다. 본 연구는 Type-C의 형태로 개발된 직접전단시험기를 통해 Type-A 직접전단시험법의 문제점을 해결하고 신뢰성있는 결과를 도출할 수 있음을 보여준다.
